We always like to get our cats from the animal rescue shelters, because I feel these cats need a loving home because most of the time they have only seen hurt and abuse and they need extra love and patience which we have for our animals. It's a great way of support the rescue centre as well as we give donations to keep it going so other cats get a chance to get rehomed and are rescued. Trouble is when we go to the centre I just want to bring all the cats home! I would never contemplate buying a cat but that's just my principles.

I adopted our cat. I saw her in the park, she was less than a week old and she was being played by a kid. I love cats so when I saw her i had pity on her and i got her from the kid and brought her home. I fed her and cleaned her and kept her warm in a box with a bottle of warm water under a towel where she lay. She is almost a year hold now and very playful.

Over the years all of the cats that have lived here have been taken in as strays, but two of my present cats were adopted from the shelter, and the other two were both strays.

My first two cats were from my brother's cat's litter. The other was a stray that showed up in the neighborhood. There are a couple more that live with me, but really belong to my neighbor.

We have two cats. I have a cute story about how we ended up with one of our cats. My step-son opened the front door to talk to someone who was outside and this little orange and white tabby cat, well actually a kitten, just walked into the house. instantly started purring and going to everyone. My husband being a truck driver thought the kitten purred like a diesel truck. So we named the cat Diesel. One day Diesel was no-where to be found. She was gone for about a year. Just last weekend when my husband and his boys were at the local carnival. They found Diesel and brought her home. I'll tell you it was like she never left. Still as loving, playful, and purring as ever. Just not exactly a kitten anymore. She was pretty skinny when they brought her home, but a lot longer than I remember her.

We have three grown daughters. One moved out, adopted a cat and dog, moved back home with the pets, moved out again and couldn't take either pet. She left them both with us so we've had the pets for about 12-13 years. Last January our cat developed cancer and we had to have her put to sleep. It was a very sad day. She and I were always together. This was my first cat experience and I enjoyed her to the fullest. Our little dog is still alive but we are now seeing some of the effects of aging.

That is a nice way of putting it. They adopted you.
I was not planning on having a cat right yet, seeing as we live in a small apartment. But then this guy came to me and asked me if I wanted a kitty.
He had two and they were boy and girl and he did not want brother and sister to start messing around with each other, so he said.
Not to long before, I had a talk with my BF about if we would have a cat.
He wanted a black cat, and I wanted a white one.
Well, you can imagine what happened. I asked the guy what colour the kitty has.
Mitsie is black and white. So I could not refuse and said SURE!!!
We are happy with him. Mitsie brings life in the apartment, and because I am home most of the time, it is nice to have company.
Have a nice day.

I don't have any cats right now, but most of the ones I have had weer strays that either just showed up on the porch or someone who knows I like cats would bring them to me. If I had my own place right now I would have some and when I do move I have my eye on a couple of strays that may ne interested in relocating.

My cats were adopted from the humane society. I think it's a good place to get pets from- more ethical than pet stores.

When I was a kid we used to just get cats from whereever... My grandma always had strays having kittens there etc. Now that I am grown we have adopted 2 from shelters and one from a home of a friend. We are looking to get another kitty soon and might stop off at the shelter to check them out... they are givng away all their adult kitties for free.

Sasha, Samoa, and Mitzi came from the local animal shelter. Marissa and her sister Ricochet (now deceased) came from a greenhouse in Michigan where my daughter worked. She rescued them, and she still has their brother, Boris. Magellan and MIss J were two of my foster kittens from when I was raising fosters for a local rescue organization, and Ginger was one of my foster mamas. TK came from another rescue organization.
I could talk for hours about why each and every one of these kitties is special!

I got my cat from the guy I was dating at the time. His family had a stray cat that started living in their front porch, and when they realized she was pregnant thy let her inside to stay. She had four kittens, and I adopted one of them. The next time I get a cat, I will be adopting through a rescue organization.

All of the cats that came and went in our lives have all been strays. Or after taking care of that stray, it gave birth to kittens and thus increased in numbers.
Our cat at present used to be a very thin kitten. We didn't think he would live through the week. Suddenly it got lost , and when it went back it was already chubby and healthy. It probably got lost in the woods, and learned how to hunt for survival. :-)

Mine was a kitten when I got home... He showed up on my back doorstep the day that I buried a friend.. a stray. I fed him a bit and put some food away from the house so that he'd go on his way because I have to pay extra money on my lease to have pets. A few hours later it started to storm and I heard his little meow on my back stoop again.. and I just couldn't leave him there ... :)

My boyfriend got me my first cat from a litter that a stray had, since I had to leave my cat with family, he knew how much I loved cats and was upset that I had to leave mine behind. My second cat also came from a stray female that had a litter near our home. Our neighbours took them all in or so I though, till one night I heard this tiny mewing comming from the front porch and there the littly guy was shaking and meowing. I couldn't just shut the door on him and forget about it. We were going to take care of him and find him a home, turns out we did, he's part of our family now. This is two years later and we have two stray kittens outside they hang around my front door, one runs when it sees me the other used to run but I've made friendly, and I'm falling in love with it. So that may be my third cat. But I can't keep taking cats in, my boy friend will put me outside. Lol. As for the shy cat, I'm hoping to get him friendly and find him a home. I hate to see stray animals, discarded and unloved.
