Hello mylotters
This is to share my experience while visiting
Golden Temple, Amritsar.
Our family has prayes in the golden temple and
going around the coridor in the upper floor.
After finishing prayer and enjoying the Golden Temple
thoroughly. we were coming out of the temple gates.
Then suddenly we noticed some procession coming
around the corner of the street.
We had just reached the end of the road and
alighted a vehicle to go back to our hotel, and we
could hear gun shots from the direction of the Temple.
Operation Vijay had started.
When we reached the hotel we were advised to leave
the town immediately and the hotel people helped us
to reach the station safely.
Even at this minute if I remember that incident
a chill runs through me
Has anybody had any such experience. Please share.
Happy mylotting

Wow, you and your family were very fortunate to have been leaving when you did. I am not familiar with this place or the incident you described. I have heard of things happening right after I left a place or near a place I had just left before but nothing quite like this.

Yes Shantha, I too remember this incident. I can empathise with you as I was also present in such a situation. I had just left a place of worship and some terrorists started bombing the place. It was so eery. But the interesting part is that I was a child and the noise excited me. I wanted to go investigate the source of the noise immediately. My parents were aghast and they had to heave a screaming kid till the railway station. Only when my mother promised to get me some chocolates I calmed down. Well, just imagine If I had succeeded in investigating the shootings! :)
Operation Vijay was formed to weed out these terrorists who had taken refuge in the Golden Temple, Amritsar, India. For the 1st time, an Indian Prime Minister had given permission to the Army to enter a place of worship and root out the miscreants. This became a big issue in the country as the Sikh community thought it was a sacrilege. Well, later the PM (Indira Gandhi) was murdered for her decision. Rest is history.
