CHICAGO (Reuters) – A woman is suing a Chicago-area zoo for a 2008 fall near a dolphin exhibit, accusing zookeepers of encouraging the mammals to splash water and then failing to protect spectators from wet surfaces, local media reported on Thursday.
In her suit filed earlier this week, Allecyn Edwards said she was injured while walking near an exhibit at Brookfield Zoo, where a group of Atlantic bottlenose dolphins were performing, media said.
Some questions come to mind immediately. For instance, why do we go to the zoo? Maybe the more important question is splashing by a dolphin a common characteristic of the species or did they learn that from their human handlers? From my experience, dolphins are friendly and curious animals. Also playful! It saddens me to see this suit proceeding. These are the kinds of cases that lead to higher prices for admission and zoo closures. Most zoos are stretched to the limit in relation to their budget. Putting on these exhibits are ways to generate revenue and the public should be aware of where they are going and that certain conditions will exist. It's common sense!

There are a lot of questions I have about this situation. For instance, what was she doing up during the performance? Since dolphins are not generally aggressive, I wouldn't think this was aggressive behavior, but rather simply playful. Again, it was more her standing there rather than being seated to begin with! It's ludicrous... need more details!!

Yes I agree with you. If you are going to a zoo and near to sea animals you obviously can get some wet surfaces. You yourselves have to take care of these things. Also people become happy when the dolphins jump in and out of water and they get angry when the water splashes on them. If you are going to the zoo better is to enjoy all these things rather than cribbing about them.

I don't know why, a small incident, people just would like to make it such a big deal, in searching of money compensation. Aren't these people just find an opportunity to make money? Or they aren't come to sense that if they can't handle the splash, don't go. I am assure that the zoo would put the sign out there, "You will be get wet" if you sit closer. If they couldn't read it. They must stop all these nonsenses.
