I was just wondering about the musical tastes and opinions of the myLotters here, such as your favorite band or artist, your favorite genre, and why you love it so much. I was also curious as to how you discovered your favorites and why you love music.
On the other end of the spectrum, I think it would also be interesting to find out what music you dislike or genres you dislike and why you feel that way about it.
Personally I like a lot of music - I choose whatever I think sounds good to listen to usually - but my favorite genre of music is punk music. I also like alternative music, classical music, and rock of almost any decade. Electronica and techno music is great for its beats and its quality as dance music.
I love bands like Social Distortion, The Clash, The Ramones, Death Cab for Cutie, My Chemical Romance, The Wings, Bad Religion, She Wants Revenge, The White Stripes, Billy Joel, and many, many more.
So... What do you think?

Citizen Cope is major label, but Mischief Brew, Defiance Ohio, and Grim Dylan are indie bands. MB has some great live vids up on youtube for "Every Town Will Celebrate" "Nomads Revolt" and "Roll Me Through the Gates of Hell".

Really I am a flexible man when speaking about music. Really my basic is pop genre, I love it so much, because it has a good composition of the music. But I also like many genre of music depends of my mood. I like to hear rock or punk music when I energetic and I always listen the blues or classical genre when I want to feel calm, so it's change depends of my mood. If speaking about a rock music, I like hear My Chemical Romance, Avenged Seven fold, Mr Big, and many more. If a pop band, I like a band from my country, such as Peterpan, Jikustik, D'masiv, and many more.

As I keep saying, it seems, variety is, to be cliche, the spice of life, so it's always good to have a variety of music to listen to. I also like My Chemical Romance. I'm not such a fan of AX7 but they have a few good songs. The other bands I'm not familiar with.

I can't say that I have a favorite as I love a large variety of music. I listen to so many different bands and genres.....mostly rock but not entirely. I like many of the bands that you listed. I also like The Used, Bob Marley, and almost all of the old rock. There are some bands that I only like one or two songs ....I even like some very, very old stuff that no one listens to anymore.

I love music and I can listen to almost all types of genres. It doesn't really bother me to listen Classical, Alternative, Pop, Rock, RnB, Soul, Jazz and so on. But these are my few faves though: The Fray, NickelBack, Ne-Yo, Rihanna, Beyonce, etc.

Well when it comes to music I am pretty open minded. I like pretty much all kinds of music and lately I've haven't really stuck with one genre. I used to be really into rock but now I just kind of switch off depending on my mood. I like to say that I'm bi-polar when it comes to music because it literally depends on how I feel at the time and usually my music on my computer is set on shuffle. So one minute it will be hard rock, the next country and so on.
The kind of music I cannot stand is rap, screamo, and emo music. Some pop songs are annoying too but I like some.
And some of my favorite artists are: Breaking Bejamin, Godsmack, Disturbed, Three Days Grace, Taylor Swift, Hilary Duff, Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson, Bryan Adams, Linkin Park, Alanis Morisette, Katy Perry, etc.

It's always good to have an open-mind when it comes to everything, and while you might like to say your bi-polar, I think everyone, to a point, chooses their music by their mood. I also love shuffle when I'm not in any one particular mood. It's like listening to the radio but knowing that whatever song comes up will be a song that you like.
I can see from your list of favorite artists that you have very diverse tastes, which I give you a thumbs up for. =]

My favorite genre is the post punk or alternative 80s. I also like some 80s punk. My favorite band would be The Smiths as well as Morrissey "solo". Other favorite bands include The Clash, Social Distortion, Echo & The Bunnymen, Psychedelic Furs, Bauhaus, and others. As for genres I DON'T like... Well, I don't like country because I hate the twangy voice and find it annoying. I also don't care for hip hop. Not sure why, but I just don't.
What are your favorite Clash and Social D songs? And do you like Big Audio Dynamite?

I will give anything a chance, but my favorite two bands are Hanson (pop/rock) and Lady Antebellum (country). I have been a Hanson fan since I was about 10 years old, I am now 21. Its been a very long time and they just keep getting better as the years go by. I can't wait to see them in concert again next month, it should be amazing as always. Lady Antebellum are a fairly new group and I've been a fan since their first single hit the air, much like Hanson. I can see me being a loyal fan to Lady A as well. I have seen both groups multiple times already and have met them as well. The three Hanson brothers Zac, Isaac, and Taylor are amazingly sweet and funny. Its amazing how much fun they have making music. Lady A (Charles, Hillary, and Dave) are all very sweet as well. I love both bands because of their meaningful lyrics. I love lyrics that aren't pointless...
As for the opposite end of the scale, I can't stand rap. Its nothing but someone talking really fast with a beat behind them. I also hate cuss words and thats all they seem to say. Thats just my opinion though, to each his own, right? lol
Have an awesome day!

i do listen to different genres from jazz to punk, from metal to dance music, reggae, ska, alternative, even glam rock. i don't really want to limit myself in listening to certain genres only. i'm not really a big fan of pop music though. i do listen to it every once in a while but sometimes i think it's overrated so i usually resort to listening to everything else except pop. i like a lot of bands/artists too and it depends on my mood what genre i listen to. :)

My favorite genre of music is country mostly for the fact that I can listen to it and can really understand it. My favorite artists are Kenny Chesney, Montgomery Gentry, Keith Urban, Carrie Underwood. Really this list could go on and on. However, I also really like listening to a lot of other genres of music as well.
The only kind of music that I don't care for is punk/heavy metal. The reason that I don't like this genre of music is that I simply don't understand it. If there was someone to enlighten me on it, perhaps I would grow to like that as well.

I'm not such a fan of heavy metal, but punk is my favorite genre. It's hard to explain to someone why it's good music. Frankly, punk bands lack musical talent, haha - they can't sing, they can usually play like three chords on guitar - but it's just the way the sing about things I can relate to. Anything and everything. They just have their way about going about it, just as any genre does.
I'm not such a fan of country, on the other hand, because I don't like the way it sounds. But you have a very valid reason for choosing it as your favorite.

I consider myself as a very ecletical guy. I'm not ecletic enough to enjoy absolutely every music genre, but I can enjoy really different stuff, like Blues and punk rock, and country, pop-rock, or bossa nova (a brazilian genre of music).
But mostly, I'll always go with rock. Almost every kind of rock genre. I'm kinda hard to satisfy, 'cause I need the hard and the soft, I need the happy and the depressing. I seek a very large range of human emotions (in music, in life, in movies, etc), and gladly I can found all of them in rock/pop-rock.
Things like The Beatles, Aimee Mann, John Mayer, Radiohead, U2, Coldplay, Travis, Keane (I LOVE Brit-rock) are perfect to calm me down, and calls my sensitive side. Nonetheless, things like Chris Cornell, Nirvana, My Chemical Romance, Led Zeppelin, Muse, Fiona Apple, Franz Ferdinand, White Stripes and Evanescence are perfect for moments of extreme good and bad emotions, anger, desperation, fury, revolt, and big excitment.
Music is emotion, so I love any song who can connect to me at this level.

That's how I am too - I need music that fits my mood, because music really affects me like that. When I'm angry, I need something soft and soothing. When I'm sad, I need something upbeat, etc, etc. I'm glad to see that you enjoy so many bands without discriminating against any one genre or type of music.

My favorite bands are Pavement, Modest Mouse, Guided by Voices, Neutral Milk Hotel, Bright Eyes, The Killers, Muse, Radiohead, Blur, lots more. I like more indie bands but I also like a lot of British and alternative music from the 1990s. I like music that is interesting and lyrics that stay with you for a while. I also have a soft spot for lo-fi, that's why I like Pavement so much since they were pretty much the kings of that. I've actually been listening to some Jay Reatard lately too which is fun.
