Okay, I'm going to warn you, I'm going to go on an all out tirade here... Okay, with that out of the way...
The economy is in bad shape, more people are losing their jobs than ever and the job market is decreasing, our troops are STILL in Iraq, and most importantly, the corruption has not ended, and all people can be a**ed to care about is the fact that THE FIRST LADY IS WEARING SHORTS!? C'mon! The f***ing news media IS NOT DOING IT'S JOB! THE ONLY REASON IT WAS A CONTROVERSY IS BECAUSE THE MAJOR STATIONS LIKE NBC, CBS, FOX, AND WGN MADE IT THAT WAY! WHY NOT REPORT SOMETHING THAT IS WORTH REPORTING! THIS IS THE STUPIDEST THING I HAVE EVER SEEN! THIS IS WORSE THEN WHEN THEY REPORTED BILL CLINTON BEING SNIFFED IN THE CROTCH BY HIS DOG! SERIOUSLY, GETTING OFFENDED BY SOMETHING LIKE THIS IS F***ING IDIOTIC! PEOPLE NEED TO GET A LIFE AND STOP F***ING GETTING OFFENDED BY TRIVIAL S*** LIKE THIS! PEOPLE SHOULD BE GETTING OFFENDED THAT OBAMA HAS NOT FOLLOWED THROUGH WITH ANY OF HIS PROMISES! NOT... THIS!!!!!!!!!! NO, BETTER YET, PEOPLE SHOULD BE OFFENDED THAT PEOPLE GETTING OFFENDED BY SHORTS IS MAKING THE NEWS! WHO THE HELL THOUGHT THAT GETTING OFFENDED BY SHORTS WAS A GOOD IDEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!? JUST F***ING DROP IT ALREADY, IT'S ALREADY GOTTEN MORE ATTENTION THAN IT DESERVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am not from the US, so I didn't get intoxicated by this "mega-news". I totally agree the media is more and more composed by morons that, being unable to find real topics, hang on to truly unimportant stuff, like the one you describe here. If it's of any comfort to you, it's pretty much the same in my country - the media is dominated by incompetents and impotents.

It's not only that, though, but this whole argument about whether it's okay for the first lady to wear shorts or not sets feminism back 6-7 decades! There was a time women couldn't even wear pants! They had to wear skirts or dresses, or they weren't acting like a lady! I STILL can't believe this mentality exists in this day and age!

If that is the case, I think it's kinda vain to judge someone by what clothing they wear...

I hear ya. Is she not supposed to be comfortable while on a trip or vacation? I don't get it either. Besides she looked good!! She looked like an average mom..which is what she is. I get tired of hearing things in the news that are so superficial and silly. There is so much going on in the world that needs to be told. The media is trying to make the news entertaining... geez is society getting so freakin' weak minded that we have to be entertained at every turn?
I am disgusted by all of it.

Yeah, it's pretty bad. And to top it all off, they give awards to these news stations. AWARDS! LIKE THE EMMYS OR OSCARS! Seriously, news programs have gone down the drains, now they don't care about reporting important news, they care about ratings. RATINGS! It's like they lost site of their purpose.

Everything is about money. good ratings mean lots of money. The media think all people care about is celebrities and politicians, etc. The economy is falling apart, the health reform bill can't get passed and all these moronic idiots care about is the First Lady wearing shorts?!!! It's insane, this world we live in now.

This just in: Pointless news stations show pointless news stories. Film at 11!
And the news media and papers wonder why people are moving away from them and finding alternative sources of news - pretty much internet and arguably even mylot can do a better job than MSNBS, FLOPS NEWS, the oldspaper and the rest. Sure you have to deal with comments and other opinions, but at least relevant things are talked about on the net (well... mostly).

Actually I would argue that being able to discuss the news without having to be told to shut up by Bill O' Riley is one of the reasons that internet news is so great! Some would say it's the last incarnation of freedom of speech. The only downside though is that sometimes you get trollers and people who are rude and malicious, so I guess freedom of speech comes with a slight price, i.e. people could abuse it and cause others emotional harm...

Yeah, writing about this stressed me out a great deal. Reliable journalism is something I care about a lot.
