well my first laptop worked for only a few months and the it was never started and so i had to buy a new one. but this time i bought a new acer mini laptop which is working nicely for me. i think i will keep it until and unless there is a huge requirement for upgrade or it stops working completely.

I generally keep mine for two years just because of the new software out there that seems to require more space or speed. I use a laptop to carry around and so size is also a factor. I prefer the small lightweight ones and have upgraded to the newer types. I bought a netbook last year. I will probably keep this until it goes out as I do most of my work now on a desktop. I bought an HP two years ago and the monitor went out. It was very frustrating but I guess this was a problem with this particular model. My son asked to have it so I gave it to him. He found a forum of consumers with like problems and fixed it imself.
So I guess, it all depends on what you use it for. Laptops are so much like desktops. They can really last a long time.

Until something new out in the market. I keep on changing my laptop unit since it is a company issued and I am the one who always test laptop unit before recommending on buying that type of laptop to other department heads. That's the coolest part of my job. Just like having a new toy displayed on the market and I am the one who first play it
