I'm in shock! From what I have heard, he is being sent right back to where he came from. The place he planned the whole incident! I am outraged and yet not really surprised.... Not a fan of current administration. I'm afraid there is more where that came from....

gOOD GRIEF HEIDI, THE CURRENT ADMINISRATION IS NOT THE ONE WHO RELEASED HIM TO GO BACK HOME. I just do not understand when people blame Obama for things he had nothing to do with. . U obama haters need to get the facts & put the blame where it goes.

Thanks HEIdi, u have a right to like or dislike as we all do. I just hate to see anyone blamed for something they have nothing to do with. That happens way too often.

What the heck is wrong with our country or more specifically our judicial system? We spent all those tax dollars to keep this man in prison for life for what he did . He deserved the punishment he got. Now why are we setting him free to die comfortably at home???? I mean his victims did not die comfortably.

It is of no surprise to me. In the dense foliage of politics and those who control a nation or even globally there are indeed forces at work that we mere men cannot comprehend. Amidst all the distractions in civilization, we seem to neglect that fact that these forces are present. I may or not be a fan of Obama, but the fact still remains whoever it is on the top may have no control over matters that are being manipulated from unknown levels in administration and even in society itself. Cheers!

politics can be much murkier than we can imagine. in any case a single person cannot commit such a large scale crime. what we know might as well be the tip of the iceberg. it is widely believed that that the bombing was planned and funded by Iranians as a retaliation of shooting down of an iranian civilian airliner by US battle ship in persian gulf. (they said they mistook it for a fighter plane). the prosecution of an individual was a desperate attempt by british government to show that justice has been done. but it seems they have much more to hide than what has been told. reopening the case could have worsened the already tense situation between west and the arab world. the truth might never be known.

I am so disgusted with the British Government ofr letting him go on compassionate reasons. What compassion did he show to the victims? The Brits fall over backwards to accomodate everyone and they are suffering the consequences. To ne honest, I am so disgusted about it that I cannot write what I feel. It is disgusting.

Hi Pergamano (not sure if I spelt it correctly!) I am British by birth and lived there for 21 years and am totally disgusted at what the government did. Afer all - look how long it took to catch him??????????????? when I go back to the U.K. I do not recognise my country anymore. We fall backways in accomodating people and have ended up by hurting our country.
I do hope that you are feeling better now - I have been praying for you.

I think that they were wrong to let him go home to die, He did not give the people that he killed any consideration. they did not have the chance to do anything more. He was charged and convicted of the crime, and he should have had to do all of it. Not be let out just because he was sick.

I agree completely. Why should he be granted such concessions when the plane full of mostly students was not. Justice would have been the Scottish releasing him to go home to die with his family, putting him on the plane w/ a computerized autopilot, no other crew or passengers and then blowing it up over the ocean. Problem solved.

Hi Aunty, I'm going to be your first controversial contributor here I'm afraid. I believe he was released in order to have him drop his appeal which would have lead to embarrassment to the Governments involved in the whole cover up. There has always been different feelings amongst the US and UK families of the victims towards this conviction. The Libyians offered a token payment of compensation in order to get sanctions lifted which they probably would have been able to claim back as the view is that the second appeal would have lead to release anyway. This way the real truth will never emerge. I for one have never believed that Libyis was responsible for this atrocity and believe the Governments involved don't want the real truth to come out but intelligence reports have always lead towards Iran.
I am just outling my views here and do not wish to debate them.

1 - It was the Scottish justice minister Kenny MacAskill that agreed to the release of Abdelbaset Ali al-Megrahi. (Not the UK or USA!)
2 - The Scottish parliament has been reconviened and had their holidays cut short to address the damage done to their international standing
3 - He was released on "compassionate grounds" to spend his final moments with his family... Ronnie Biggs of the great train robbery was recently released for similar reasons.
4 - He was found guilty by a court in the Netherlands, but because he was imprisioned and committed the crime in Scotland that is how he has managed to be released under Scottish laws!
5 - He is being hailed a hero in Libya!

But the whole point of the early release was to stop the appeal being heard which it is widely thought would have led to his release anyway but uncovered facts which would embarass the governments involved. I believe that he should not have been forced to abandon the appeal in order to receive release as he has wanted all along to clear his name and always claimed his innocence.

I, admittedly, don't know the entire story or who is to blame for this but I so disagree with it. His victims did not get to die peacefully at home. The victims loved ones had their lives altered forever. I don't care really how much time he has left, doesn't that just kill the point in putting him away for life....let him go home to die in comfort? I honestly just don't get it. And what if he doesn't die? It is not right...not at all. I think it is a slap in the face to all the loved ones of the victims and disrespectful toward the victims.

I think it's wrong of the Scottish government to set him free because of some disease and/or having such and such of time to live. He didn't think about those people on board the plane, now did he? So why are they considering his feelings? I think it's a huge slap in the face of the families and the victims. How sad.

Hi Jo, I got second place BUT.... after reading the rules and regulations, it appears that in the end, it's the judges who really decide who wins and who doesn't. But again, at least I'm up there for them to see! lol I did send a letter to them telling them what I wanted to do with the money if I won it in hopes to sway them a little. I hope it worked!

Personally, I think that it's ridiculous! I really do not understand why they decided to let him go! After all, he destroyed so many lives, not just that of his victims, but also that of his victims' families! He should still be in prison and not with his family. It's just the way that I feel about this whole situation.

I agree w/you 100%. The people he killed did not have a chance to go back home. They say he doesn't have but 3 months to live, #1 noone knows that for sure i don't care how smart they are. i'm not a betting woman but if i was i would bet that he lives longer.

Hello, my friend. In light of what that man did and that he was sentenced to life in prison, I think that should have been carried out.
I am a compassionate person, but...I also think that justice should prevail. The brunt of my compassion in this instance must lie with those who lost their lives and the many loved ones left behind to grieve for them.
