Stealing - ever have a family member steal something from you?

I had a close family member steal my jewelry. She took several rings and a couple of sets of my earrings. One set of earrings were the only ones I wore. I caught her wearing them! She had the kahonies to wear them in public! I believe I caught her offguard when I visited her at a time when I was usually in a class. I demanded she return them. She did. I was banned from her house. But, that didn't stop me from going to visit them. I went even more often than before. That put a stop to her stealing from me.

Lock your stuff up when he gets out, he may still be unable to control his need to steal.

good for you! It is completely uncalled for when a close relative does that to you. It's hurtful and deceitful. I've just had family members not return things they've borrowed from me, and then I forget about the item until I go to look for it. I don't think I've ever experienced theft from them though.

The funny thing is that when I found out about it, other people said that she had stolen from them too, but I was the only one to stand up and say something.

Yes, but if you shame them for stealing from you in the company of others they may stop.

Stealing in general is a bad thing, but stealing from relatives is worse.

I had one family member steal money from me once. It was only $20 dollars, but I still don't trust them to this day.

Yes, I have had this problem several times. The latest has been this past month in my own house. 3 times to be exact. the first time. I know my 8 yr old took it. He returned it. He said he took it so he would have money for lunch. The second and third time, I don't know how exactly. But I have an idea. Solution: Added a lock to my bedroom door. Along time ago, I had a family member stay with me. I found out either her or her ex- boyfriend stole from me. Well, money from my kids bank. So I threw all their clothes out that was just put in the washer and dryer (all were still wet) Outside all the porch and ground. I also threw everything they owned out on the lawn. I found out where they were at. Went there and said the following: I am going to town. When I get back, my sons bike had better be at my house and you guys and crap had better be gone. I am giving you one hour. Or I am calling the police. Reporting the bike and money stolen. Your choice. Needless to say, the bike was back. And that sister has never stolen from me again. That was 8 years ago.

Wow, good for you for standing up to her. It takes courage to stand up to a family member when they have done you wrong. They probably don't believe that anything would be said or done because they are family.

You are right. It is hard to stand up to a family member. BUt I will not put up with stealing. If you need something, ask for it. If I got it, I'll give it. But don't steal it. My family members know this. They also know if I find who stole from me. They had better be running. Stealing upsets me bad.

Stealing can be addictive. I stole things from stores when I was younger. Somehow I broke myself of this very bad habit. My ex-husband's greataunt was a cleptomaniac. At 80 she still took things from other people in her nursing home.
