I've just started walking outdoors and now started training for running. I can't believe the difference I feel mentally. I have used the treadmill & eliptical for years and never felt the mental release I feel when I go outdoors for a cardio workout. I highly recommend it, especially since the weather is cooling off and mornings are very nice.

I've never used a treadmill before. But I can tell you that running on the track is different from running on the streets or trails. On the streets is where I am fastest, because on the track I just want to quit at the end of each lap. But then the trails I love because I get to see the most random things, like a baby bunny hopping across the trail or an egret flying overhead. I tend to run slower on the trails because for me I am just enjoying the scenery as if I were still hiking them rather than running.
So how is running going for you? It is addicting isn't it?

There is nothing like walking or running in nature. You have all the fresh air to help your body and mind and it's defferent for the feet too. It's best to run or walk bearfoot on the sand, really works out the feet and legs, but if there is no beach in the area, runung on unpaved roads in the nature preserves or woods is great too.

Yes, i was amazed that chess grandmasters have an exercise regimen, as in like a real physical workout.
It is said that physical fitness improves mental toughness.

Wow, I didn't know that. That should be an incentive for anyone that doesn't have some form of regular exercise.

you are so right that walking is good for you and being in the fresh air helps a lot, I have diabetes and i walk for at least a hour everyday to help keep my sugar down.I do not think that i will ever run,,But i do walk at a good pace to get my heart rate up.
