The best explanation I got for this I got from a pakistani muslim several years a go.
He told me that many people (muslims) will consider pork is a dirty animal, eating leftovers and crap, living in dirt .. why would you eat that ? But also CHICKENS eat dirt ... and muslims have nothing against ... Then, there got to be another explanation.
Let's use logics. Where muslim religion appear ? Middle east = desert, hot day - cold nights, not enough water .. got meat, cow meat, chickens, lamb, sheep's meat - all are ok if salted proper and maintain qualities and good for eat for days, even on that conditions. Pork, o another hand, pork meat develop worms and become uneatable very quick. whic leads to lethal diseases fast. So, was forbidden.
Well, human law is not something EVERYBODY would consider to respect .. but WORDS OF GOD, for sure .. then that is the solution: God said ..

That is a question that I don't have an answer for. When I was in the Air Force and stationed at Dhahran in Saudi Arabia, there was a small company of Saudi soldiers whose barracks (quonset hut) was about 100 yards from our barracks. I seemed that every evening they would be roasting a goat on an open fire outside. I've often wondered the same thing.

Yep, there are a few reasons. Jewish people don't eat pork for the same reason (not because Allah, but basically it says the same thing in the Torah). It's also a Jewish thing to cut the wing tips off of poultry (like chicken and turkey) before you cook it, because that is the part of the animal that they dig into the ground with (that is the dirty, unclean part).
It's amazing to me how different religions can have the same rules and laws, basically for the same reasons. It means we all probably came from the same place.
XOXO

Pork is a dirty animal is right. But the problem is not such simple. Way back to the olden days, when people still livestocking pig with conventional method, which is just leaving the pigs to eat anything even their own dirts, we can see that this method is very dirty. But some people will say that in this modern life, people are using moderm method to livestocking pigs and feed their pigs with approriate meals. Perhaps for some people, this modern livestocking can make then feel better when they want to consuming pork. But the problem is not such simple again. We all know that pig is the best typeworm habitat. Typeworm perhaps simply looks like a small and simple worm, but the fact it's very dangerous for long period. If human have typeworm inside, it's highly dangerous. Some people will asking that prawn and crab also eat craps in the sea, but why don't Muslim prohibited them. Please remember that if we have seafood allergy, when we finish eating prawns or crabs, we will suffering skins allergy in no time. So the effect is faster than typeworm impacts. And more over, seafood allergy can easily be healed and it's not a big problem which can endangering someone's life. It's totally different with typeworm impact. When you finish eating pork, nothing will happened with you. But as time goes by, usually when you reach your olden ages, possible some serious disease will occur to you. This is what i can give to explain about why pork is prohibited for Muslim. This is not my own research but i collecting it from many sources so far, because this question also came to my mind before. I believe that everything taught in a religion book is for human's good, and for Muslim, there is Quran. Have a nice day and happy mylotting.

What i have heard is that they are forbidden to eat pork, because it is written in their holy book Quran. If i am not mistaken, it is also written in the Bible, though not directly, but something like; not to eat the animals whose hooves are divided. But for most christains, they tend to follow what is mostly written in the new testament. I also heard that Quran and Bible (old testament) are basically the same.
