A friend of mine has problem with his laptop. He think that his laptop infected with virus, and he wants to format and partition the hard drive, where installed the Windows Vista. He attempted to load the Windows XP disc to format it automatically, but the system said "the operation can't be done, since Vista is higher level than XP". So, my question is how can you format and partition the hard disk, and install the XP? please advise.

Well, actually, I already done it to boot from the CD be my primary boot sequence. After the XP windows start to detect the hardware, and drivers. It encountered another problem about the hard drive. I just need to find out more about it.

in your bois menu of your laptop u will have a option related to hard disk the reason is xp does not see a hard drive this is because the hard drive is of sata module and the bios is set up for that so get into the bios and change the setting no to be ahci

Yes this is possible... As XP is junior to Vista. You can still install XP if you want. But there's some other things that you'll have to do first. First install a non windows based OS like linux or something like that. Then using this operating system, format the hard disk so that there'll be no sign of Vista on the computer. And then install a fresh copy of XP. As the hard disk was formatted using Linux and formatting deletes all data on the computer, XP won't know that the computer had a higher version of windows before itself so I guess it won't give any error... Hope this works buddy, take care...

Let me say in Simple. u cant go back to Win XP if u alredy have higher version. so just insert ur Vista DVD and then restart ur laptop and format (Previous Vista Drive alone), if all drive infected then u can format others too. use NTFS format. then restart again and insert WIN XP DVD or CD u got. then u can easyly install.. one more thing if u keep on getting virus try to use some security softwarse will protect u from harmfull virus, malware, trojons etc. Best Security softweares are : For antivirus : Bit Defender Total Security 2009 Or Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 For Webprotection : K9 Web Protection Alert - Browser USB insert detecter auto virus : USB Disk Security System utilities : Advanced SystemCare Free v3 These 4 software is enough to protuct ur laptop or PC and u wont get any virus if u keep updateing database of those security online update daily. hope this mail will be usefull.. Hello, we can format Vista and install XP quite easily if you follow ensure that the following are done in your friend's computer: 1. Go to your BIOS and change the hard drive mode of operation to AHCI. 2. Obtain a BOOTABLE(NOTE THIS.....BOOTABLE I.E. IT MUST DISPLAY THE MESSAGE "PRESS ANY KEY TO BOOT FROM CD/DVD") when you start your computer with the cd popped in. 3. If it is a bootable cd then you must have no problem going on further. Get to the partition screen, select the partition containing vista and then press "F"( i don't know the key to be exact, just follow the onscreen instructions) 4. Install XP 5. Install the Drivers. Your system will be up fine and working. If you liked my post then kindly rate it as a best response. Thanks. i@mhErO!

use the vista CD to format your HDD... using NTFS Once done restart the system, put XP cd, format it again and reinstall XP. It will work. You can do the same if you have a linux CD. Format the HDD using linux, restart and use XP to reformat and install. it will work
