I'm positive animals dream! I love watching my dog, Grace, when she falls asleep because her nose starts twitching, her legs start jerking and sometimes she even tries to lick with her tongue. You know she's got to be having a good dream there :) but I also know they dream because she used to have nightmares. When she was only 4 months old she was hit my a car and had to lose one of her legs and the first 6-7 months after she would whimper in her sleep and her whole body would jolt and I would sit with her and have to calm her down. So if she can have nightmares, I know they can dream. But tell me, what is your take on it? do you think animals can dream?

Of course they do. I think they're just like us. I think most of them dream about running into the wild with their dog friends or eating doggy treats. I often see my dogs moving their legs while sleeping or barking softly.

I agree with everyone else, I think they do.
My old dog used to move his legs around while laying on his side, like he was running in a dream. You could always tell if he was having a nightmare because of the barking and I'd sometimes wake him up to get him out of the nightmare.

Ahmmm....I want to argue with that but i can't. We have a cat-miming-who loves to sleep a lot. As if he got it from his owner.haha
Well, just like your dog, our cat does the same thing---plus he sleeps like a human. For example, he puts one of his legs on his eyes---i've never seen any animal do that. Or maybe I'm just not aware. And whenever he sleeps---he stretches a lot, like he's been dreaming of running or walking.
Maybe animals like us shares their own personal dreams, too...I'm not really sure about that...but as I've said I can never argue because I've seen our pet getting jerky whenever he sleeps :p

I believe that animals can dream. Of course, I always wonder what kinds of dreams they can have, and if they are like our dreams in that we dream of our hopes, fears etc. I have only ever seen one of my two cats dreaming, although I am sure the other one does too, she just doesn't "talk" in her sleep as her brother does. It is so cute, but can be unsettling sometimes because he will be sleeping so peacefully then all of a sudden start sort of meowing/whining in his sleep. When I look at him, his whiskers are usually twitching, or his feet are twitching. I wonder if he is chasing something in his dream, or asking me for treats or something. It is very cute to watch!

I've always believed that an animal can dream. I've seen all of my dogs do the same thing that you've described about your dog. I always thought that they were dreaming about chasing some kind of animal in a non-domesticated type of situation. They will whimper and yelp in their sleep. Plus, the way that I see it, they have brains as do we and therefore the capacity to dream is the same as ours is. Sometimes when my dogs sleep I'd love to know what is going through their minds.

Phoenix, I am sure that animals can dream. My dog, Milo, will actually try to bark in his sleep sometimes! It's quite funny because it's only a half bark, where his mouth stays closed, but his lips puff up and the 'Woof' slips out the side of his mouth, LOL. Even my cats, on occasion, will paw at something in their sleep, as if someone were dangling a toy in front of them. Don't you wish you knew what they were dreaming about? :)
