What does it cost to buy a new home in your country?

Do people in your country even buy homes? Do they rent houses or apartments? What are most houses made of. Since we just built a new home, I'm interested in hearing from you what it's like where you live.

House prices in Iceland are outrageous and keep going up. Most people "own" the houses they live in but it's becoming more commont to rent now as it's getting almost impossible for young people to buy their first house or apartment. A house like the one I live in would go for around $1 million but when I bought it 8 years ago it was only $400.000 (nice investment if I would sell it and live in a tent). You can get a decent 2 bedroom apartment in the capital city Reykjavik for maybe $400.000 but a house would probably never be under $600.000 today. In the more popular areas people are paying well over $1million for tiny apartments. Most houses in Iceland are made of concrete and are very well built. We have very high building standards/regulations that must be followed and all houses must be earthquake proof as we are living on shaky grounds.

My goodness! I could never afford to live in Iceland, that's for sure. We thought we paid a lot for our house, and it was only $200,000. Of course, we live in one of the lesser expensive places in the US. The cheapest had to be Tennessee where we only paid $103,000 for a really nice house. How large is your house that would cost $1,000,000? This is absolutely fascinating to me.

I think that at those prices I would have to buy a very tiny house and learn to sleep standing up.

New homes here in Nicaragua range from around 25,000 USD to 150,000 USD, depending on how big and location. They were even cheaper until a lot of Americans came in buying properties, which drove the prices up. Houses here are made out of concrete with metal roofs, unless you are very poor, in which case they are made out of anything the person can scrape together like tin, bamboo, clay tiles, etc. You have to have a lot of patience when you build a home here because without a lot of the modern tools, they take a lot longer to build them.

Rich Americans came in you mean? The handful of rich people here run up prices, too. It's discouraging for those of us in the middle class who can't afford to pay the elevated prices. I would imagine you feel that way, too. Do you have a picture of what a basic house looks like in Nicaragua that you could share?

we're in the process of buying a house right now and will be spending close to $350,000. and thats just an average house, nothing huge. my sister lives back east and it only cost her $50,000 to buy a 3 bedroom house back there, but they are much older than out here

Yeah, I knew it was expensive to live in Vegas. I'm wondering what your sister could find for $50,000 and how far east she is. In Iowa $50,000 wouldn't buy anything but a real dump. Thanks for sharing your info.

Unfortunately, I live in one of the most outrageously expensive areas of the US (orange county, CA), where a 2 bed 1 bath starter home with a fairly small yard will cost you at least $400,000. Excuse me while I choke down some of those zeroes!

Sorry, I choked so hard that I forgot the rest of my response! Apartments rent usually about $700 on the low end for a 1 br, up to..well, over $1000. Can you believe that? It's better to rent a home where you can get a 3 br for, I think, around $2500/month. But at least you don't have someone living above or below you and you have a yard!

it depends on wheter the area is urban or rural, and how good the jobs in the area are. in some cities, houses can range from 150,000$ to well over a million.

Where I live in southern Texas, USA, you can find brick veneer houses in many price ranges, but if you are looking for one of the Nicer homes, 4,000 to 7,000+/- square feet, the price range is from $1,000,000 to about $4,000,000+/-. These houses are built on lots about 100' x 150' costing over $200,000, A Vacant Lot.

We relocated to northern California a couple of years ago and were astounded at housing prices for the area. The STARTING prices for homes here is around 1/2 a million...if your willing to live in a trailor/modular...you might find a used one for around $100,000..but not set up on a private lot you would own..they are all set up in parks and the lot rent can go as high as $1000 or more a month

I have both a brother-in-law and a sister-in-law living in different parts of California, and I know it's a terribly expensive place to live. My brother-in-law says that he and his wife will never be able to afford to retire there. I know they rented a small house when they moved to San Jose, and it cost $1800 a month. Now they have a small ranch with a tiny lawn, and it cost over half a million dollars. That much money would buy a mansion here in Iowa. Good luck!

house - house
Oh, in the Philippines you could buy a house for 10,000 USD and it is already a very decent house like what it would cost you here in Saskatchewan that is worth about $25,000 house. In my place here in Regina, Sask, Canada, it would go from $25,000 to hundred thousands. It's cheaper here compared to bigger center like toronto and vancouver.

let's put it like this. in my country u can't even rent one. buying a home ... only if u were lucky enough to be born in a rich familly, or dunno, for the parents to give u one. if u were to work a normal job, u would need like the salary for 2 lifes, and not to mention expenses to live. very few jobs give u a nice paycheck, and even if u are a university graduate, there still is a big chance to find a job only as a supermarket sales preson.

Well, I live here in the USA. In WA state to be exact. I know it is expensive to buy a home or Condo here, and if you are considering New, you need to have at least $500,000 usually for a House, and then on top of that, you need to make sure the Taxes do not kill you either. We are considering downgrading from our Condo and selling it, and going to Renting. Just seems like less headaches this way.

I am in the USA. The prices of buying a house vary from state to state, and county and county. Depends on the size land, the size house, how close you are to the city, water, or other amenities. Average I would guess at around $250,000. There are some for less, and lots for more. Where do you live?
