This is a bit of a strange discussion but one that I just had to create! I'm sure that you are all familiar with this situation! It's summer and you have all the windows open and you notice that there's a huge spider web placed at the top corner of the window and the itsy bitsy spider is hiding somewhere at the very top! Anyway, you suddenly notice that a fly comes buzzing in and slams head first into the window thinking that there's no obstical there! This is funny! But, what is even funnier I think is the silliness I get up to when I see this! I wave at the fly and I eventually get it buzzing right into that spider web and out comes the spider like lightening and it does its thing! I love watching that! Please don't think I'm cruel, I was giving the spider its next meal Anyway, have you ever been sad enough to get involved in this crazy scenario? A penny for your crazy thoughts please Andrew

Hi Andrew, what's cruel about nature? Which it is, spider eats fly to survive, fly is part of the food chain for a spider, without food a spider would die and besides no one likes dirty horrid disgusting flies, and what a wonderful ecological way of getting rid of them rather than using sprays or contraptions that are plugged in. I used to do this with wasps, because they are the number one enemy in my household when I was younger I would set traps for them, jam jars with a jam in them, the wasp would crawl inside and fall into the water trap down below, the amount of wasps I killed with them! So I hear you my friend, flies and wasps are fair game. Bon Appetite spiders!

Now that I come to think about it I really agree with you. Nature is absolutely wild! I just find it funny when I see the fly caught up in that web and suddenly the spider storms out like a bolt of lightening as if it was the last meal on earth! It's certainly funny to watch the spider doing its thing! I guess it just shows you how preoccupied I can become at the best of times! Here's to one long summer and plenty more flies in the web! Good morning AndrewFreyne; I have to admit that this is not something which had crossed my mind when logging into myLot, however, it does conjour up some interesting visual images. Personally, I would prefer not to be that close to a spider, intentionally anyway. Having said that, if anybody goes off to check out this miraculous event spawned purely from boredom, I recommend taking a short video of the drama. These snippets can be great for kid's school science projects.
I thank you for admitting to having such a dull day that you made something useful out of it after all. Well done!
Have an awesome day:)

Hi, yes, this is a very strange discussion but I just had to create it! I bet you are picturing some really wacky images of me trying to assassinate that fly! Anyway, I had to come up with something as I really struggle when it comes to creating original discussions I don't like spiders as a general rule, they really give me the creeps and flies are just as bad with all that buzzing around especially when they are close to your ears! Andrew

I do admit, this has to be one of the strangest discussions that I created but I was becoming so frustrated with 'oh, what should I create?' 'What will my next discussion be?' Anyway, I just had to create something silly! Summer will soon be over and then I can concentrate on more serious things! Andrew

Honestly, I'm not a big fan of bugs, insect anything that has lot of legs. But everytime my hubby take my car fishing, before I drive the next day, i will open the car, and check if there's actually bugs or even spider hang comfortably in there. I keep telling him to close all the windows when he's fishing ( He always went to like wooded area near the stream ).
Everytime I found the new spider web ( not enough actually to call it a web, more like couple string started * I didn't see the spider it self..but it freak me out.
I got one accident, just because suddenly spider hanging down from my visor. I think that's carzy scenario, even my car insurance company thought I'm crazy that I crashed the car because the itsy-bitsy spider. Thank's for let me venting !

I have to say, that's quite an experience! There's just something about spiders that I don't like and I'm thinking that it's the way they walk, they are so quick and I don't mean to be too mean towards them but they really don't look very nice! Anyway, summer will be over soon and these little activities that I get involved with will soon be over! Andrew

That poor fly... but that's the way life and nature are (slightly kidding there, so chuckle at least). There are a couple of times I have to deal with uh... shall we say spider leftovers. Its a different site seeing the combined effect of what the spider(s) do, what the sunlight does and natural decay.

How very graphic I am certainly familiar with spider leftovers! I always seem to find one in some dark corner of my living room! I'm forever gazing towards the ceiling to see if I can see any small dark balls of fluff which I assume to be a spider of some sort! I just don't like them plain and simple, they scare the living daylights out of me! Spiders must be here for a reason though and I'm thinking that they are here to rid the world of flies! Andrew

Oh lord, I dont think that has ever happened to me! I do get the occasional spider in my car that scares the living hell out of me while im driving, or like yesterday, a bee flew in and landed on my hair right next to my ear :0 i wish there was a crazy spider around then, would have loved to see that bee get eaten and away from me!

I'm sure that sounds even worse, having a spider in the car whilst you are driving! The summer weather is still with us anyhow and I'm thinking that I may have a few more experiences like the one I have shared! When the rain eventually arrives I will take a long earned rest from these activities!! I don't like spiders as a general rule they really send weird sensations down my spine! I always check the bedding and everything before retiring for the night! Andrew

Hi Andrew, I leave my pet spiders alone to get on with eating what they want, they prefer a diet of mosquitoes and flying ants but really haven't had the opportunity yet to encounter many flies as it isn't quite fly season yet. Those ghastly nuisances start around October I think and then it's all windows closed except the ones with screens. The green smelly bugs have started early so I'm rather hoping my two pets will be able to enhance their daily diet with these new additions, as long as that awful geko that's hiding somewhere at the moment doesn't get to my spiders first, dreadful thought.

Hi Thea! I wish I could train my spiders to eat mosquitoes, then I wouldn't be harrassed by the damn things, mind you mosquitoes are clever they hide when the light is on and come out as soon as the light goes out and they are probably too clever to get caught in spider webs, maybe I should send my spiders to school or send them over to you to learn how to catch mosquitoes properly!

Have to disagree with you there wolfie, although those pesky mosquitoes might get the better of us humans my spiders definitely get the better of them. My two spiders must have had a bit of a midnight snack last night as there were leftovers still in the webs this morning.
