Hey guys as we notice cellphones are already a part of our everyday lives. Some prefer to call rather that texting because they simply having a hard time typing it on their keypad and some has poor vision to manipulate the keypad. As far as I know, Asian people prefer to text rather than call. But don't you ever know that this (texting) is usually the reason why everyone forgot right spelling of some very simple words? WHY? It's simple. It's because every texters got lazy to write the whole correct word instead they abbreviated and misspelled it save the character.. The result? Every time they would write a formal letter to someone even a simple spelling of a common word can't spell it correctly anymore.. How about you, I hope this is not one of your problem in terms of word spelling.... How would you say about this...... ?

hello daddy again! well, im guilty! hehe...coz when i am texting, i always write it as short as possible! haha...and i agree with you that somehow it does affect our spelling even in formal writings...huh! too bad! but now, im trying my best not to use those shortcuts in my formal writings...hehehe and i am thankful here in mylot, that i was able to improve my spelling here...haha but still, im using shortcuts in texting for its better since space is limited and its just ok to me coz even my textmates understands what i am saying! hehhee have a nice day daddy! happy posting! when are you going to text me again? haha

well yeah. ever since i started writing on d computer a lot n using shortcuts my spelling has gotten a little worse. but i prefer texting. calling is too intimidating sometimes. especially if u dont kno d person well cuz then u usually dont have any subjects to talk about. plus it's great if u just want to get one piece of information quickly. and if you're in a quiet place or they are and u don't want everyone to hear wat ur saying just text them and ull get d information to eachother.

Hello my friend wigimas, I think that would not be a problem. what would be disgusting would be is when time comes when you keep on asking the right spelling of a simple common word. You forgotten it already since you were used to write in shortcut way of writing in your cellphone....hope you always have a sharp mind to remember it always whatever!..thanks for responding...

First of all I am not the one who is interested in texting.I would rather call than than text. Why would you waste time in texting when you can call? Way back when I was still not earning the tariffs for calls were costlier & so I used to text. While texting it would be certainly a shortcut. If the other party understands the shortcut then why would you want to type the full text?

I got your point. First of all I don't know what's the system of your cellphone network provider. we have here prepaid and postpaid. In prepaid you have to pay the actual cost from your day to day usage of your calls and text. In prepaid calls it is more expensive than testing. We have now a new network that offered unlimited calls for a how many days. But, almost every cellphone users in our country prefer txt than calls for those budget conscious people. This is one of the reasons why some of txters got dull in a simple word spelling because they used to write their text in short cut method as long as it can be read and understood by the receiver.. When they would have to do some formal letters or something like formal proposals that involves sometimes on their businesses this problem occurred... On my part, I never ever use short cut method instead a full letter text to make sure whenever I would write formal or informal letters I would not craving right word spelling on simple word that I would be using... That is what I supposed to mean.... Thanks anyway for being the first to react my discussions...have a nice day ahead...

If I text I would write out the words because I really don't know the lingo that the kids speak today. However, I don't text at all I just call. I do believe the kids of today will not know how to spell correctly due to texting. Which will be a big problem for them when they get older.

hi mobhomier I hate texting as its making people forget the'English language and how to really spell and think. For example why are we'tolazy to write out the word you why put yu. and the rest is'just to my way of thinking pathetic. Use the telephone And forget the'cells that make people wobble all over the road cause they are too busy talking and texting to watch where they are driving. We are going to have a whole generation of kids that cannot spell real words'only text words. help.

Yes I got your point my friend Hatley. I think that would only be applicable in your country because we have different system of network provider. Here in our country, texting is economical than calling. That's why people here prefer on writing through cellphone texting. The problem is, majority of the users, they would write it in modified way. I mean, they have to abbreviate or make shortcut the right right words to save the characters in your first sending. Since they are use already of writing in shortcut, they could not anymore recall the right spelling of some words if they gonna use that in their formal writings... I hope you got my point...thanks for responding...

Well I for one never use the whole word in texting. I prefer to abbrieviate them because the more I type the more money I am spending, because I have not got unlimited texting. But when I am formal writing I try not to use abbrieviations, I usually always type in the whole word.

I believe I have been using the shortcut over writing for about 8 years, so yeah sometimes I get my spelling messed up, but for the most part I don't usually have that many spelling mistakes.

Yes of course you can't type abbreviated words in formal writings. How ling have you been using shortcut method of texting? Have you notice that sometimes you would be having a hard time recalling the right spelling of a simple common word that you usually usually used in shortcut texting? thanks anyway for responding...

Hey, I usually write shortcut style since it saves characters and also gets the message across in less time. I love doing this, but my parents aren't really used to it and they always hate it when people do this, for them it takes longer to understand it. Make sure you have a good day, Happy Lotting!!

You got it right, most of the people nowadays forgot or even being confused on the right spelling, even I, lol ^_~ (I use the phone dictionary haha) but hey, they do that because it's less hassle and they save the characters ^_^ I mean the 1/500 thingie? when it reaches to 2/500 means you already in the second text and that double the cost. so in order for it not to reach the 2nd text, they shorten the sentences/word. ^_^ happy myloting ^_^

Ahhh no problem, I would keep asking everybody those simple and easy words he he he would it be disgusting for us? well anyway thanks for responding...

I haven't texted all that much but when I have, I type the whole word, and not just abbreviate as I am an older person and texting to another older person, and she probably wouldn't know what I was talking about if abbreviated the words. I have a qwerty keyboard, so it is easy to type the whole word and not just part of it. T think that teens are the ones that really do a lot of abbreviating when the text. Actually, I am not up on all the computer lingo anyway, so it is just easier for me to type it all out, that way there is no problem with the person I am texting for her figure out what I am trying to say. Take care and happy mylotting.

Would it be so disgusting? Asking simple spelling of a common word? That what I mean...and so, I never write it in a modified ways...thanks for responding...

i am not a big fan of texting. infact here in india texting is more expensive than making a call. cost of one text message roughly equals 1.5 minutes of talk. however i do send text messages (in bulk) on festivals and these are generally short and with full words.

Hello my friend, that's what I observed in your place. It's an opposite on our country. We text more than calling because thru texting we can save rather than calling. But the problem is, some users modified the right spelling of the word they would text to save the characters/letters that could make it enough for just one sending...the result, they are already used of writing wrong spelling that they have a hard time thinking again what's the right spelling if they would write in a formal way of writing....thanks for responding...

i understand what you mean. and perhaps this is not new. if you recollect in old days the same thing used to be done with telegram and telex. when the number of characters available is limited or at a premium, such a development is perhaps obvious. we feel it more today because of widespread use of mobile phones, whereas earlier telegram and telex were rare.

Hi! In texting, I usually prefer writing in shortcuts so that less space may be occupied and to save characters. But sometimes, I also write in full method if I do not know its shortcuts and to be understood well. Well, I am also aware of the fact that texting in shortcuts could also make us forget the right spelling of words, that's why, if I'm not in a lazy mood of texting, I just try to type my text message in full, this way, it would be easily understood. On the other hand, I also prefer calling so that our message would be delivered quickly by delivering it orally. But both of these have their advantages and disadvantages. I prefer texting more by the way since it is cheaper in our country, the Philippines, only 1 peso compared to calling which is more expensive.

I got that my new friend. I am also a filipino I feel what you mean. But in my part, I prefer full word texting so I would not be having a problem asking simple and common word spelling. It would be so disgusting isn't it? Watch out for that! Thanks for responding...

Though I am a strong advocate of proper language usage in general, when it comes to texting I definitely recommend writing shortcuts. The reason I say this is that texting is all about fast and easy communication. It's about the message and getting it through quickly, and just about everyone by now knows the shortcuts typically used.

i think writing short cut is more reasonable knowing that a page text is just about 160words and any words exceeding that will make two page and cost more in sending it out.so the ideal way his short cut. http://www.developmentandchangeinafrica.blogspot.com

When I got my first cellphone back in 1999, I would text by abbreviating and writing initials. Through the years, I've learned how to be more accurate. I don't know but I just prefer to text in complete sentences now with the correct spelling and punctuation marks.

i text my friends every day and i always use a shortcut instead of typing in the whole word, its alot easier as some phones only let so many characters in a text message so then it would be easier to do the word in a shortcut way so you caould fit more in a text message

Wow you have a nice keypad really. But, are you writing it on shortcut method or full-word writing? Some of users are writing by modifying words instead of full correct spelling-word. When they would have to write formal letters the could not anymore remember the right spelling of that word because they are used to write it in a shortcut method in their texting....thanks I hope you get what I mean...
