Do you blog about your personal life? If yes, do you post the photos of yourself or your family members in there?
Today, my husband, my little boy and I were having our day out in the mall when this lady came and called out my name. I turned around but I did not recognise her. Then she introduces herself. She is an avid reader of my blog but she has always remain anonymous, hence, I am not aware of her appearance or her blog or anything much about her.
Though it was nice to finally met up with her, it was also a little bit freaky to me. I mean, this was the first time, a total stranger came up to me to say HI and telling me that she recognises my family through my blog. This lady is nice.. I just wonder, there might also be some not so nice people out there reading blogs..
Now, have you ever been recognise in public through your blog? If yes, let's share.

Merryn! sounds like a celebrity too! i never thought of that too, i mean strangers might know us and not the other way round.. in a way, feel honoured but on the negative side, it might be worrying... as u said, freaky. But if i were to see u on the streets, i might not recognise u as much as she does, i didnt see your pics on the blog, only Ethan mostly. To answer your question, no, I have not been recognised before but I have come across one blogger whom i recognise but i didnt approach her.

Hello Reanaclaire and Merryn, after reading this discussion, I started to worry...
In fact, I blog about my daily life and my 2 kids. I love to post some pictures of my kids too. Until few weeks ago, my cousin went for my blog for the first time. She is shock to see so many of my kids pictures on my blog. She was telling me there is not good to post so many pictures of my kids in the blog, nice reader might enjoy your blog, what if they are so people who is not nice and can copy the pictures to do something bad on it. Or maybe someone can target on us by getting our information on the blog. Hence my cousin advise me to not exploring too much of personal information in the blog.
As for facebook, we can always restricted what friends to add. And we can post what pictures we like at Facebook. But we can make some setting so that the pictures of us only can be view for our friends in the list only, not going for public viewing.
So do you take any precaution after today's incident? Have you ever think of make your blog as a private blog to only people with password to log in?

reana,
Why did not you approach her? Afraid of creating a freaky situation? I like it when we schedule to meet up. But being recognise this way for the very first time, it suddenly jolt my mind that I might have over expose my personal life and info. But what the heck. There is Facebook and people are sharing their photos there like crazy!

yes, i dare not approach her, she is a top blogger, as far as i know, earning a lot.. hahaa.. she is even in the papers so it is easy to recognise her, come to think of it, perhaps i should ask her to sign autograph.. lol... anyway, as u said, i prefer to meet up with those whom i know, not strangers whom i never talk to before, in blogs or whatsoever. anyway, not to worry too much about strangers calling u, after all, yours is a friendly blog .. :)

well, it would be good if someone could recognise you. You've made a new friend! Some of them are truly harmless, some are not. For this reason, bloggers will never recognise me as i've removed my personal photos. On the Internet, it's always good to exercise caution. I may be paranoid, but it's better to be safe than sorry
Cheers!

kev,
I see your picture here! There can be stalkers in myLot too you know! Being recognise in public, I take it that my blog is 'popular' enough to create that awareness. But as you said, it is always good to exercise caution. Thankx kev.

I certainly keep a personal blog or diary about my personal life and I have also enclosed pictures and a small video of myself! Still, despite all this I have not had the luck of becoming famous for a short spell and being recognised in the street! I would love this to happen no doubt! That must have been a real crazy situation to have been involved with. At least she sounds like a nice lady though and thank heavens it wasn't someone wacky or crazy! Andrew

Hi there andrew,
Yes, thank heavens she wasn't someone wacky or crazy! Or else I would seriously think of shutting down my blog! or at least privatise it. I never anticipated for this to happen to me too, you know, being recognise in the street. But it happens, and to think positively, well, at least there are readers to my blog!

Iriene,
You were on tv? Regarding what? Why were you on tv? 2 episodes somemore! I wont know you if I bumped into you as your blog hardly have any pictures of you. If there is, it is very blur, hence I cant recognise you. Tell me, tell me more about your tv appearance.

Dear submerryn,
Hahaha..it was an old story..you can read about it
in my blog (month of May - 'I am a Standout')
That post won me two invites for the Nuffnang party
My family and I was shorlisted to represent Malaysia
for a 'family treasure hunt' in Hong Kong. We have to compete
with other countries - India, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia
and the Philippines. It is fully sponsored by Hong Kong
Tourism Board...we stayed at Langham Place, Kowloon and
Disney Hotel, Lantau Island. The 2 episodes was hosted
by our well know celebrity MC - Stephanie Chye - it was
on aired during Chinese New Year (first 2 Sundays 1 pm)
in January 2007. We are the only country who managed to
win 2 awards...It was an experience of a lifetime...
I do appeared on local tv dramas 'Table for Two' ~ TV3.
All the best and do keep in touch!

Wow, I have to say merryn, that would be very freaky for me too. I would be flattered, of course, if I had someone who was a fan of my blog. But I also take plenty of precautions when I post things online. I don't have children that I need to worry about, but I don't add pictures of me or my fiancee, at least, not ones where you could recognize where we are. I don't mind if someone sees what I look like, but I usually don't add any photos to my blog. If I do add some photos that I don't want everyone in the world to see, I just make them viewable to my friends only.
It's good to be cautious, especially if you have children, but it's nice to have fans too. :)

The first thing when I turn to look at her and didnt recognise her and she told me who she was, I was shocked. I didnt get to chat much with her as I was still in shock. I've never imagine this could happen to me as I never anticipate for anybody who did not know me to be interested in my blog. So as this is a first time for me, it did gets freaky. Eventhough she was all kind and all, still.. freaky!
