About a week ago I was at the local Walmart returning a recalled item. While I was waiting, a lady who knew the cashier walked over and started chatting with her. Because I was on the phone and trying to keep an eye on my daughter, I didn't happen to notice something right away.
Just wait for it....
As I was scolding my daughter for climbing under the railing where the carts were stored, I happened to glance over a little too far. While she looked like a lady from the waist up, the bare legs from the dress down looked like MAN'S LEGS! I'm talking hairy HAIRY HAIRY!!!
Now I'm sorry, maybe it's just where I live or.. I dunno what but I have NEVER seen a woman with legs as hairy as a man's! Not in public! Not wearing a DRESS that ended above her knees! I swear they were hairier than my husband's! It just looked wrong. Have you ever seen a woman with really hairy legs? Are you in danger of being that woman?

It does alarm a person I admit to see a woman with real hairy legs especially in our culture/society where smooth shaven legs are the norm, but you should come over to where I live. There are many nationalities represented here, and many come from cultures where women don't shave--so here? It's kind of normal. As for my legs? *coughs* I'm about due to shave...but no not that hairy......yet

LOL! Well... in the summer I shave more often because I wear shorts so much. In the winter, it doesn't matter as much because my legs are covered more often. I don't think so much that I worry about it just because of the hair, *I* don't think I should have hair on my legs and I don't like it lol. My reactions sometimes are based on 'ew I wouldn't want to do that' etc.

No it's not, is it? It doesn't seem right to me either. I don't even think that men really LIKE to shave or they don't HAVE to, some of them don't want hair all over their faces either. I prefer clean shaven actually, I have issues when some guy looks like he's growing a little hairy creature all over his face. I think it makes most people look older and a little 'messy', as if they don't care about their appearance. I'm not talking about a well groomed goatee or mustache or a little five o clock shadow. I'm talking about a huge furry 'thing' obscuring someone's face. Shaving is good.

I come from a culture where shaving the legs is not a must... so i have hairy legs... but not the kind that is as hairy as a man's... and i kinda like mine... i tried shaving them in the past... but i felt like i was naked... so i stopped... and learned to just appreciate the hairy legs that i have... though i did got some weird stares from women when i was working abroad...

I think it is more of a cultural thing... we Filipinas do not really shave our legs maybe because a lot of us are not that hairy... but we do shave our armpits... but i met women of different nationalities who do not practice that... as to taking a bath... i take one twice a day... and when i was working abroad... some women were confused why i do that... because their culture doesn't dictate them to take a bath everyday...

That's the odd thing, if my legs get hairy and I don't shave - even if it's just a little and not noticeable to anybody except me, it makes me feel almost dirty. Like something is there that shouldn't be... I suppose how someone might feel if they don't shower for a week. Most people I know shower daily, so not showering for a week would be really pushing it.

Shaving is personal choice, not law. She might have been from somewhere that shaving legs is not something women do. I remember reading from a girl who visited some where in Africa and when she had pulled out a razor to shave her legs, everyone had a fit that she would dare to do such a thing. Supposedly there its considered attractive. I am not in danger of being that woman but til I was 18 my step mom would not let me shave my legs at all. I had to sneak the razors or use tweezers when I could so I wore pants a lot of times even in summer.

Wow. I thought that people usually started shaving when they were much younger, I'm thinking maybe 11? I think I shaved when I was about 11. I was not very consistent, it sure wasn't fun but everybody did it and they laughed at you if you didn't, or at least if you claimed not to.

There was this girl that I went to high school with that was that woman. It absolutely disgusted me. I mean, if you don't want to shave your legs that is fine with me, but please do not wear something that is going to show off your hairy legs. I don't shave my legs very frequently and I will admit to that, but when I know I am going to be wearing shorts or a dress/skirt, then I make sure that my legs are shaved. Part of the reason that I am not very regular in shaving is that my husband actually prefers that I not shave since he grew up in Europe for the most part. And, I don't have the most hairy of legs to begin with.

That only makes sense. I mean I understand that some people just don't like to shave but why the heck SHOW OFF HAIRY LEGS in a country/society where a lot of people believe that's gross? We all have preferences, sure, but I have never seen anything celebrated about women having hairy legs. I don't like hairy legs. I don't, however, think it's an issue at all if someone doesn't shave if they are covering their legs up. Then it doesn't matter, nobody - including themselves - has to be exposed to it. I think actually that hairy legs on a woman is worse than people who complain about tattoos and piercings.

hi mommyboo I have not seen a hairylegged woman in years. I shAved my
legs until after menopause then I had no hair and what little I had was so fine nobody would notice it. If I had been hairyI would have kept on shaving until I was no longer hairy but I just do not have any hair on my legs now.

I think it is a cruel joke that after menopause, it becomes easier to deal with because you no longer have hairy legs... or hairy anything. I hear that women start getting thinning hair too, although it's not like male pattern baldness, few women actually go BALD like men do.

Hi yes I have seen a girl with lots of hairs in my college function some 5 years back.. This girl too was wearing a skirt which was above her knee.. she was some friend of my college mate.. I think those people might have some harmone problems because of that they might have got so much hairs on their legs like men..

Hi, mommyboo!
I once saw this teenager in a public transportation, wearing a school uniform. She was big and hairy from her face to her legs, and it was curly! She had a pretty thick moustache and sideburns for a girl, and more in her hands and legs. When I saw her, I thought she was a boy, until I noticed that she was wearing a skirt. Somehow, I felt sorry for her, that everybody was like looking at her oddly :(
I think maybe there's some hormonal problems for women who have too much hair, don't you think?

There IS a medical condition that I've heard of that causes too much hair in women, and it's anything from facial hair to extra hair under arms, legs, etc. I think there's medication they can take or they can have laser treatments to kill the hair follicles, but I've heard of women who have to shave daily just like men.

I've known some hairy women from my college years - but they were waxers too. One of them is actually a good friend of mine. Though she doesn't wear skirts and what-not when she's not freshly waxed. At one point I joined her in her waxing - oh myyy goodness, that stuff hurts. And I didn't even have a lot of hair!! Now imagine what she had to go through.
Anyway - luckily I'm not hairy and I don't wear skirts often.

well, I've seen women with hairy limbs; it's either the arms or the legs or both. I think it has something to do with the hormones in their bodies. It's not a strange thing where I live. Even my wife's arms have more hair than mine. It may look weird but that's how they were born. If you're one of them, and feel awkward about it, then there are ways to remove the unwanted hairs permanently.

Well... I don't shave my arms or wax them or use nair or anything. The hair on my arms is fine and hardly noticeable, although it is a heck of a lot longer than I EVER let the hair on my legs get lol. Oddly enough, my husband is not very hairy either...

Oh yeah I've seen some really hairy women around. I am definently not in danger of becoming that woman I have a shaving obsession one little bit of leg stubble at all and out comes my razor.

Maybe she is secretly a man. Surgery? Plastic surgery can do amazing/weird things to a person. Or she could very well be just a normal woman. Humans have hair. Our ancestors had tons of hair. (Unless you don't believe in evolution then god or whatever you believe in zapped her legs with hair =D) It shouldn't be too surprising to see women with lots of leg hair. Everyone is different.

Most of the women I know or encounter shave. I would have no way of knowing how much hair we all have NATURALLY because we ALL shave or wax or use Nair or get laser treatments or something lol. I guess it matters more to some women than others, I don't know. I have no explanation for what I saw, and it just really shocked me. It doesn't make sense that a woman would take the time to do her hair and put on makeup and pick out and wear a pretty feminine above the knee dress if she was going to not shave or take care of her feet either... lol. I mean from my perspective, it was like she took care of 'waist up' and neglected 'waist down'. That just does not compute.

lol i have seen that before.. maybe she was a really good drag queen? but i think most of them would shave their legs lol i guess some people just don't care.
i used to not shave mine but they weren't that bad and i was a teenager so i think it wasn't that big of deal... some people might just like hairy legs

Oh too funny! And NO, I'm definitely not in danger of being that woman. In fact, I only have to shave my legs when I get bored. I have such fine hair that you can't see it and barely feel it. And now at my age, it's a non-issue. lol
I know many European woman who never shave their legs or under their arms. But today, you just never know who wears the pants in a household and who wears the dress! LOL Welcome to a free society that allows people to express themselves any way they choose! LOL

I'm just going to laugh laugh laugh now. I had had internet issues for awhile so I wasn't able to be here much and start or answer ANYTHING. There's no point when your modem restarts every 3 minutes. Anyway, I think I shave semi-regularly because it's a habit, or I've been conditioned. When I don't shave, nobody notices except ME, because I am tan and even though I have dark hair, it's fine and soft, not stubbly or coarse. You can barely see it. I don't grow much hair under my arms, I have to tweeze extra eyebrow hairs more often.
I think part of it is just the society acceptance - girls start shaving because mom shaves or waxes, and once you start, you just keep doing it. It feels icky if you don't and most people I'm around DO shave or wax, at least if they're women. Some of us get lazy but we don't just all out stop doing it lol.

Well I guess I'm lucky. I don't really get that much hair on my legs. But if I haven't shaved in a little while, I'll make sure I'm wearing jeans in public.
Still, what you saw was nothing. I was at the beach once and I saw a woman sunning herself with her arms behind her head and she looked like she had a couple of mini rugs under her arms.

I have seen women like that. They don't shave their legs or armpits. Sometimes it is a cultural thing, sometimes a sensitivity issue (the shaving irritates their skin and makes it sore and rashy), and sometimes it's just personal preference. I don't really find it attractive, but then again I have been known to be a little lazy with the razor during cold months when nobody but my husband and I would know (if I didn't just announce it on the Internet, that is - lol!). Never to that degree, though.

lol....reading the responses I immediately felt the need to mention that Europe doesn't include England when it comes to letting it all hang out....nope, we're pretty hair free on the whole....lol
I do prefer to shave etc. - I have dark hair so its really noticeable if I don't so if I wanted to leave of the shaving for a few days I would have to embrace the full, um, European thing.
It IS unusual to see in a culture where we do shave, but having said that we do naturally grow the hair so whos right?! I suppose if someone is comfortable with themselves either way then go for it!
