Should the gov't control what people learn about?

I'm doing a poll/survey on how many people think that the government should control what people learn at school. For example, that let's say that the government says 'oh you can't learn networking, or something that is considered an elective. Would you agree? If so, why? Would you disagree? If so, why?

I completely disagree about the government controlling what is to be learned in the schools.Learning in schools should be informative.Students should get a complete understanding about any topic and they should form their opinions about it.If the govt is given a chance on controlling what students learn then they would incorporate all their ideas into the students brain and corrupt them.Students are the future of one's country and we should not pollute their minds And at the same time i think govt should be given a chance to review what students are being taught and if they have any objection then then can approach in a proper way..

I completely disagree with the government controling what people should learn in schools! At that point they were playing the selective game and if they do it in schools, who is to stop them from doing it in other areas of our life? Everyone should have the opportunity to learn whatever it is they wish, whether the government sees it as useful or not. The idea of denying our people things that they might find a passion or serious talent in is so wrong. The goverment should definately not get involved in schools, at least when it comes to controling classes.

The government should NOT control what we learn in school. What is the point in living in a free country if everything is controlled. The government already controls more than I feel it should, I feel the education of the American citizens should not be in their hands. Besides, if some one really wanted to learn about something, they do not need school for it, you can find anything on the internet.

I don't think govt should control what we learn in school. As long as it's informative and not politically twisted (sorry, out of terms) it's okay to learn them. School is a place to learn and gain knowledge to enter the real world. There's no point restraining the knowledge. And for the example that you stated, I think it's not the govt. but the school decide whether the subject is to be teach or not. It's due to the teacher that will be teaching it is available or not as well.

CONTROL IS THE PROBLEM! We do not need to be controlled by a group of secret speakers who only come out to play when it's time for them to take over. I think HISTORY should be reconsidered. I mean, rewritten. TAKE ALL THE LIES OUT OF THE BOOKS SO OUR CHILDREN CAN KNOW THE TRUTH. Letting them (or ourselves) decide what we believe. Most of our HISTORY, SOCIAL SCIENCE and LITERATURE is misleading. I know some of us HAVE ACKNOWLEDGED these unwritten truths, yes??? I can't be alone here. As far as electives go. I know that each school offers different subjects within the elective categories, but I don't agree with some of them being considered "electives". I'm not against them either, just don't understand the meaning behind (for instance) bowling being an elective.
