Hi to all myLotters! I have 39 desktop icons in my system. I do not use most of them, I normally click only a handful of them regularly. I sometimes clean up my desktop icons using clean up wizard when they fill all spaces in my computer screen. Some how they grow gradually whenever I download new programs. So it is a continuous process for me. How many desktop icons do you have in your computer? How you are managing your desktop icons? Happy Lotting.

Hi ENVY68.
Boy thats a huge amount of desktop icons!I don't have that many but I do feel that the desktop is cluttered up.There are probably 20 or so.I just delete those I don't need when I feel its getting more cluttered up than usual!
Basically delete the shortcuts you never use.
I sent all that are absolutely necessary to the start toolbar.
Voila then it looks good!
Keep posting

Hi. I can't give you exact number of icons in my desktop right now as I am posting now from my phone. I guess there is the mydocuments, mycomputer, firefox, about 10 of shortcuts to my most used programs. Maybe, you can create one folder where you can save direct all your downloaded files, so your desktop will not get populated everytime you download your files. You can place it in your desktop so you can easily open it whenever you need the files. Or you canhave it in mydocuments as subfolder.

I have always hidden the desktop icons on my computer. I like it clean and with no clutter whatsoever. Rather than use the desktop, I furnish the Start bar and my Rocketdock with my needed icons. Still is usable, and way more practical if I used the desktop. Others might have a different opinion on this however, but heck, different strokes for different folks.

I use to have a lot of desktop icons. I think it use to fill up two vertical lines on my screen, and these are small icons, not the big ones. I only placed the program shortcuts I used a lot.
But then I started to notice that whenever I wanted to save a file onto my computer, the first place the "Save File to" thing goes to the Desktop, and I noticed that all those desktop icons really slowed down that "Save File to" thing. So, I got rid of all the desktop icons, put all the short cuts in a folder, and then created a toolbar on the desktop with that folder. Now, all my shortcuts sits neatly on a very narrow little bar on one side of the desktop. No slowdown when saving, and the computer will boot faster too (^_^)

I have only the application shortcuts on my desktop which might be within 10. But then I use all of them on a reguular basis and are very easy to find. I usually use a different folder for all downloaded programs or applications. Thats easy to scan and keeps it isolated in case there is any harmful code in it which might corrupt my computer. If I do need any downloaded program for a regular use I scan it first and then move it to my personal folder and remove all other unwanted programs from the download folder on a regular basis. Thats how I keep my desktop clean and to the point.

I have never counted my desktop icons. But whenever it crosses 3 columns, I use the desktop cleaning wizard. It is really very helpful to clean up the desktop. Otherswise it looks very messy. I don't use each icon very often. So, only those are left out which I use regularly.

I don't know exactly how many I have, but I use all of mine. If there's something I don't use often, I stick it in a folder on the desktop called "shortcuts." That way, it's out of the way, but I can find it when I need it. I don't like to use the clean up wizard, because it doesn't know that the program I only use once a month is still critical and when I need it, I don't want to have to go looking for it.

Let the desktop clean. I recommend this free little tool launchy, after installing it, its that in the background, the program automatically creates Start Menu shortcuts for the index, when the need to use it to start an application, directly on the hot key to its breath, and then enter the desired implementation of the application's name.
I use them very convenient.
