One of God's greatest commandments is to love our neighbors as we love ourselves. He never told us to love our neighbors more than we love ourselves; nor did He tell us to love ourselves more than we love our neighbors. He just wanted us to love ourselves and others equally. No more, no less. =))

I think that the society has enabled people to look more on themselves then on others. It is human nature to worry about yourself first, not that it is ok. But in todays day and age, the "world" puts so much emphasis on taking care of yourself first then worry about others around you. I feel the opposite. I am always looking to make sure everyone around me is ok, comfortable, happy, and so forth. THen I do what I need to do to make myself ok. For example, I always serve my kids and husband their food, then if there is any left I then dish out my plate. Of course I cook enough for all of us to eat, but what if we get unexpected guests, I then feed them first. I always make sure my kids and husband have clean and new clothes and shoes before I go out and spend extra money on myself. I'm not saying that I don't ever get to splurge and buy something for myself, but I am a giver, rather than a taker. I make sure everyone else is taken care of first. Great discussion! Have a Blessed Day!

It's so uplifting to hear from people like you! I get so frustrated when I'm out and see how others live. Yes, we should take care of ourselves, but we NEED to make sure our families and loved ones are cared for first. I believe that the more we take care of others we will be blessed and taken care of. Thank you for sharing this with me!!

Hello,
Yes I sometimes find that I put a lot of importance on myself, but I only do it sometimes. I also see other people make it seem like they are the king of the world, that is what they make it seem like. Make sure you have a good day, God bless and Happy Lotting!!

I don't think puting too much importance on ourselves is no good . We should firstly take good care of ourselves . Only we are living a comfortable life that we can help others a lot . If we are in trouble or in poverty or in sickness how can we pay attention to others and help them . Therefore i really think that we have to live well and don't let others worry about us .

That is a good thought- very true we can't help others if we are in need ourselves. We just have to remember when we are no longer in need to turn our efforts on the needs of others. Then if we end up needing help again those we helped will be able and willing to help us.... it's a cycle.
