3 awesome anime you (probably) haven't watched

Anime, there's a lot of it, most are crap, we can't like everything, there are things we just read the description and go all "This is BS" and things that seem ok but turn out stupid (personal opinion example: Phantom ~Requiem for the Phantom~). Anyway, to the point, some of what we leave out (or ignore) could be potentially awesome. Let's see some of those anime that I think need a little more attention:
Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni (When They Cry - Higurashi)
-------------------------
Truth is I can understand why you wouldn't watch this, its animation is simply horrible at some points (read: 90% of the time). However I think people should ignore that and watch it anyway. Its slow at the beginning but I can guarantee that if you like Mindf*cks you will like this. So basically it goes like this: You are introduced to a story, then everyone dies and you're back at the beginning again only things are different this time around. I don't wanna spoil anything but yeah...only one character knows whats really going on and they try to find a way to escape this endless loop that has gone on for more than a hundred years. I highly recommend the visual novel (which is being translated by both fans AND professional translators at this very moment) or the manga, the anime's second season is arguably better than the first animation-wise but the story turns from a horror anime to a drama driven tear jerker type of thing at some point....yeah...I highly recommend going to tvtropes.org and looking up "High Octane Nightmare Fuel", then from there click the link to all the Higurashi listing...yup, its got a whole page...have fun...the manga can be found at onemanga.com and the visual novel is being translated by manga-gamer and scheduled for an october release but the fan translation is already available at sonozakifutagotachi.blogspot.com
THE VISUAL NOVEL/MANGA/ANIME CONTAIN NO ADULT CONTENT SO THEY ARE SAFE FOR EVERYONE TO READ/WATCH.
Ghost Hunt
----------
If you're into the supernatural and haven't watched Ghosthunt then you should commit harakiri in shame. This series isn't about your usual bishonen anime hero with a sword that purifies lost souls by kicking the everloving cr@p out of them. If you don't know about ghost hunting then let me tell you its a real occupation and that's what the main characters in this show are, Ghost Hunters. The show works like a detective story type of thing. Someone hires them and they go to the place in question set up a bunch of tools like infrared cameras and the like and there is also some action. What I didn't like about the anime is the way it ended and the fact there isn't any season 2 on the horizon...It was originally a novel which is (or should I say was since its been months of inactivity) being translated by sinmay from baka-tsuki.net, it can be found at baka-tsuki.net and sinmay.livejournal.com. The amount of stuff the anime left from the novel is big, 25 episodes just aren't enough, they practically leave it in the middle and don't tell us about a WHOLE LOT of things AND leave out the whole romance thing between Mai and Gene/Naru (you won't find out who Gene is in the anime but you will see him many times). There's also a manga which is ongoing bu there's no been anything in quite a while.
Keroro Gunsou (Sgt Frog)
-------------
So we go from a Horror, Mystery, Violence, Mind*uck, Drama, whatnot show to a Supernatural, Horror, Mystery, Detectives type of thing show and the what's up next? A parody series!
Keroro Gunsou is about some aliens that came to invade the earth, its just that they suck and ended up living with the humans. It doesn't help that they look like stuffed animal frogs...the show has to be seen to be believed...its amazingly funny and its one of the things that make you say "WTF is this" when you read the description but if you actually watch (and you should) you'll realize its very funny. There's many more shout outs than in Lucky Star and Yakitake! Japan combined. The show is still ongoing with more than 270 episodes, the only problem is that there aren't any subs after episode 124 (I think) but some good enough people on youtube have subbed some episodes like xtamamachanx or kerorodaigunsou.
The manga is ongoing but I don't really like it...
Anyway do yourself a favour and check them out...Just some of my recommendations, if you can't find anything you like then ask me, I've watched a lot of anime, tell me your interests and I'll tell you what I think you should watch...

I'd say don't bother with the anime of Umineko, its more or less a pretty bad adaptation of the visual novel...I'm saying this because I currently am reading the novel. Also Umineko is like Higurashi in the sense that there are question and answer arcs so in this season of Umineko you will probably find no ending, just wait for Umineko no Naku Koro Ni: Chiru to be turned into an anime but seeing as we're three chapters short of the completion of the visual novel my guess is you won't be seeing chiru for at least 1,5 years. Comiket is only twice per year so two chapters per year and we need three more...the next comiket is in winter, then after that its summer and winter again and then it should be finished, no one guarantees that the release will be ready by next comiket of course so in case there's nothing once be prepared for a 2011 anime...
So why bother with the anime anyway?

I have to go watch the other two (it'll be awhile as there are plenty of anime ahead of me) but I've finished all of Higurashi.
Not only that, Higurashi really isn't for all audiences, its more for mature audiences. The scenes of gore and blood and the storylines make sure of that. Second season was meant to be more of a drama tear jerker as it is the "Answer" compilation of Higurashi stories.
Also, why no mention of Umineko? Umineko is pretty much Higurashi deluxe... Its another mystery special but it focuses more on the mystery in the anime. It also has pixelized scenes which were absent from Higurashi's episode airings (as far as I can recall - I do remember one of Higurashi's eps getting the banhammer because of a real life killing).
Another anime to look at in this genre is (believe it or not...) School Days.
Watch all the way through....
@ Sgt Frog
The story's main plot device seemed a bit similar to... (some sarcasm and lol-generation attempts ahead)
Urusei Yatsura's (alien chick did in fact 'fail it' when taking over earth and ends up living on it),
To Love-Ru (aliens from some place in the galaxy try taking earth over, but the chick 'gets lovestruck' and it prevents the invasion... for now...)
Yoake Mae Yori Ruri Iro Na (aliens... from the moon try taking over earth... but both earth and mooninites get burned. mooninites later try living on earth in limited capacity but this has issues too)
Seikrei (aliens from 'planet x' end up on planet(earth)y!? because its for lulz. lets forget the aliens are powerful, and control elements of nature, physics, energy and could kill all humans without resistance. instead insert a convenient 'we control them all' plot device)
Pokemon (aliens from... and we know those things are aliens, invade earth, primarily america to convince kids to sucker their parents into spending money on fourth rate merchandise)
UFO Princess Warakyure (alien chick crashes to earth, ends up living on it cause she sucks at flying but no one admits it throughout the series)
Excel Saga (not aliens but still it's humans failing it when taking over earth and also inserting obvious references)
Super Dimension Fortress Macross (okay maybe that one's stretch but the basic plot elements are there! :D)
The sad part is I'll think of more silly similarities when I post this.... meh maybe I'll add them if I think about them.
And I have to wonder if the reference count could beat Hayate no Gotoku: Season 1. Anyways, all this just means is....
GOTTA GO WATCH
thanks,bye!

OMG, Higurashi, and I just wrote about is a minute ago xD I think Higurashi is a well known series. A verz popular in anime fiels as well. As for quality. It's Studio Deen you know._.''' Studio Deen almost screem with "we fail to make quality animation", look at Ymato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge any other of thei series... hmmm... just look what they have done in Umineko:P

I think it all just comes down to people's taste and preference when dealing with anime. Out of those three you mentioned I've only seen Ghost Hunt and I really liked it. The story was very interesting and I do hope that they do come out with a second season. It's a series I wouldn't mind seeing some more of. I've seen Higurashi around but haven't gotten around to watching or even reading it. I'm too much of a spaz that likes to jump around from series to series.
But I'll have to agree with you that people are missing out on some really good anime/manga out there due to the fact that it's not popular or mainstream or whatever. Some of my personal faves that are probably overlooked are Library Wars, Akagi, Monster, Baccano!, and some others. I've actually encountered people that said that they wouldn't read a certain manga or watch a certain anime because it's not popular. This has got to be one of the stupidest things ever. These people are acting like sheep and going with the crowd. I don't know, it's just sad.

Monster rocked, seriously.
Not watching an anime since its not popular...that sucks but hey, its their loss...you can just say "Yeah ok, good for you" and leave them waiting for the 1000th episode of one piece (not that I have anything against one piece).

Huh, I've actually watched all three of these. I've seen a few mystery arcs of When They Cry, and a few episodes of Ghost Hunt (keep meaning to catch up) and I'm oh so addicted to Sgt. Frog, it was actually what I searched for to see if anyone else has been watching the show. All are very good anime, though I can only watch so much When They Cry before I have to watch something else. When I get very disturbed just be the opening scene in an arc, I know I can only watch so many before I need something else.
