I'm so excited and proud of myself! I just finished my first knitted baby blanket! It was a simple pattern but I have to start somewhere...I already started a second one now that I have the confidence of it turning out okay. Of course since it was my first time it wasn't perfect but I love it anyway! Do you remember your first project? Was there a particular project you were really proud of when you finished?

I so remember my first knitted project!!! I was fifteen and it was a pair of slippers. Mom had given me wool yarn, and there was just enough for my two slippers. It took me a year to knit them and get them sewn together. I got to wear them once... I had very carefully taken them off and proudly and lovingly placed them on the chair in my bedroom and went to bed. The next morning one of the slippers was GONE! I searched high and low for the missing slipper, and of course my parents chided me that I should be more careful with my possessions. It wasn't until three days later that the mystery of the missing slipper was solved.
I owned a royal standard poodle who was the light of all of our lives. We didn't know about his affinity for WOOL. During the night when we were all sleeping the dog snacked on my one slipper. Dad discovered the answer and called us out to the back yard to observe the evidence. It literally came out in the end. The dog ate quite a bit of wool in his lifetime, and as hard as we tried, we couldn't always keep our special wool pieces of clothing from his teeth! I still wonder after he ate the slipper if he farted fluff.

Hi loverbear - that is a great story! After all the time and effort you spent working on the slippers and poof - they were gone overnight! I hope that was the only project that vanished. Thank you so much for sharing and I hope you have made many more projects that stayed with you!

I never had anyone to teach me how to knit, but I remember crocheting, I loved it and may end up doing some more this summer. I think dollies will be good, never enough dollies for the knickknacks. Was the baby blanket made out of wool? I really don't know much about knitting except that you use 2 unlike crochet you only use one. Hope you have many more hours of fun. Happy Mylotting!!!

That's awesome! Isn't it great to see something you made with your own hands as a finished item? There is just something so very cool to make something with your own hands..a one-of-a-kind item. Something much more special than all those mass-produced blankets/scarves/sweaters sitting on a store shelf somewhere.
Congrats to you and best wishes on project #2...and beyond!

Hi creationsbyrobin...It was great to see something that I made with my own hands finished! You are absolutely right! Of course I'm on to the next project and I'm excited that I can do more now that I have some experience! Thanks for the kind words and the response!

Hi!
My congratulations! That's real success. I love knitting myself and prefer flat things like scarfs and blankets (someday I'll definitely do one for myself)
Please share, what was the size of the blanket? How much time it took You to finish it? What color is it?
Jolly myLotting!

Hi masssko...Thank you so much! I don't really have a preference yet because I haven't made much more than scarves and this one blanket. It's funny you said that because everything I've knitted so far has been for someone else - maybe I'll make something for myself one day too! It was a baby blue blanket for my new baby nephew who will be joining us in December! I don't really know how much time it took to finish it because I can just do a little at a time. Most days I sit down to work on it I can only complete one or two rows and I think it was 36 x 36 if I remember correctly... Thanks for the response!
