well try to read this first. hehe! it was forwarded in my inbox long time ago. "fi yuo cna raed tihs, yuo hvae a sgtrane mnid too. Cna yuo raed tihs? Olny 55 plepoe out of 100 can. i cdnuolt blveiee taht I cluod aulaclty uesdnatnrd waht I was rdanieg. The phaonmneal pweor of the hmuan mnid, aoccdrnig to a rscheearch at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it dseno't mtaetr in waht oerdr the ltteres in a wrod are, the olny iproamtnt tihng is taht the frsit and lsat ltteer be in the rghit pclae. The rset can be a taotl mses and you can sitll raed it whotuit a pboerlm. Tihs is bcuseae the huamn mnid deos not raed ervey lteter by istlef, but the wrod as a wlohe. Azanmig huh? yaeh and I awlyas tghuhot slpeling was ipmorantt!" were you able to read it? so there, we don't actually read a word letter by letter but as a whole. try to widen your vocabulary. it will be easier for you to read when u have lots of vocabulary because u can easily guess the next word to the next word to the next word.....^^;

when reading i don't think speed is the key. what you need is to be able to understand what you are studying? read at your slow pace but try to grasp as much as you can. if you read too fast you may not remember much of what you read later. and BTW DON'T YOU READ SO YOU CAN REMEMBER? take your time, and enjoy the reading. though you can practice reading faster by reading stuff that you enjoy the most. and the more you read the faster you will be reading in no time!

I have never been much of a reader at all. I have a hard time focussing on it and remembering what I have read. I am not a fast reader either. I just do not have the time to read. I skim over it to get through it.

Everytime I try to increase my reading speed, I just miss a lot of important words, making myself understand the other way around than the sentence means. =).

I would try to practice reading at a faster level than you are comfortable. Even if you do not fully understand each sentence, keep going and you may improve. Other than this you can simply read more, which should help you pick up words faster. Good luck!

I do not have a technique when it comes to reading books, but when i am reading the textbooks my teacher let us read.. i start from reading the easier topics to the harder ones..and sometimes, i start from the back to the first page.. for example i am suppose to read chapter 1 to 3.. i start reading chapter 3 first, to chapter 1.. It would also help, if you mark the important sentences with a marker,...i usually underline them with red ballpen, then mark them with a yellow green marker.. and read 10 words or more a day from the dictionary to improve your vocabulary..this would help you understand the books you are reading, which will improve the speed as well..

I think that the real secret is to be into the book as much as possible. So if it's a forced reading, it'll be hard to digest it more easily. However, you can work on something which is spending at least a couple of hours reading it withouth great expectations and then at a certain point you might find yourself enjoying it more.

Practice! Like anything else, reading gets faster with practice. You should also work on building your vocabulary. THe more familiar you are with the words the less brain power you will need to understand. There is a program I think it is called the 'mine's eye' that is supposed to increase reading speed but I have never used it.

Don't be too close to the object. A little away and read it line by line or sentence by sentence, not word by word.
