What do you think of the president's speech today? I know many people around the nation didn't approve of their children watching this "political speech." However having seen it today all I saw was a genuinely concerned individual trying to inspire a nation of students starting a fresh new year with a purpose and with an intent to do their best. Personally I feel privelaged to know that someone so high up in power actually concerns himself with the youth of our country and makes it a point to do so rather than waiting around for election campaign time when he seeks their vote. I'm a college student and although my goals were set prior to hearing our president's speech I'm sure it inspired many young people and made them feel important enough to be addressed. So whats all the fuss about? A good solid message about education never hurt anybody. :)

I also watched it and I like the part that he said he is very concerned with the country's improvement and how he will do it.

I was pretty much dumbfounded on why so many people didn't want their children to see this. I honestly didn't know what it was going to be about until the day before when we were talking about it in my government & politics class. My teacher didn't agree that it was right for parents not wanting to have their children see this speech. We watched it in class and I thought it was a very good well done speech by Obama. Parents that didn't want their kids to see this should feel dumb! I've been slacking off lately in school, and after seeing the speech I do want to just finish my senior year and go on to college like I've planned. Why would you want your child to miss out on words like go to school, don't drop out, you can succeed. I mean like come on, just cause you don't like him, you really don't want your child to be encouraged to go and do their best in school? So I do agree with you!

I watched the speech today during class, and I didn't find anything wrong with it. I can't believe the fuss that's gone up about it, personally. I don't have any problem with the president telling me to be a good student and I feel sorry for anyone who doesn't feel that the president can be their child's role model. It doesn't matter what the president believes in this case, I think we can safely say that most people want their kids to do well and school and if the president can help that, let him.

I found the speech wasn't too off, but it held small offenses that where subtle, and I know there are folks out there who choose to ignore those subtle hints and prods say that the message was good so who cares about the little things. That is the attitude that scares me. Those little things build up and when they do they bite us in the tushies (mylot over reaction). A good speech was ruined by the small innuendos. Not many of them where out in the open but where later lead to by the governments worksheets. I home school and was given the original worksheets before the public out cry and the changes. The revisions held only a few things I did not like but the original held activities that where in appropriate for our children especially the younger ones. The public out cry was what made the changes and I am glad for them. We did watch the speech but I commented on the ideals I found important and what I felt he was over stepping his boundaries with. I believe this should have been done during prime time so that people could do this with their kids, it is not something that should happen in a school where teachers and TV hosts can lend their spin over a parents.

I didn't have a problem with his speech. I'm not a fan of Pres. Obama, but he is our president. It's up to us, as parents, to teach our kids to respect those in authority- whether we agree with them or not. This is what continues to make the United States of America a great place to live! It is our right to agree or disagree & continue to have the freedom to speak about it. We also have to teach our children that they are going to have to live with, for the rest of their lives, people that they may not care about..... they are everywhere, everyday.
