being a girl is very expensive

does anyone else agree with me, being a girl is way more expensive than being a boy any day, metrasexuals excluded of course. i am saying this because i watching a commercial the other day that got me thinking of this. think of all the products that we have to buy to maintain ourselves. it is all very costly, there is the creams and emollients for the face, including sunblock, toner, cleanser, exfoliator, face pack, moisturizer. then for the body, another type of exfoliant, a loofah to buff the body, body cream or moisturizer. then for our hair we need a conditioner, shampoo, hair food, hair gels some type of hair color. then of course there is the feminine hygiene products. when all this is added up, it comes out to quite a hefty price per month. oh i forgot to also mention make up as in foundation, concealer, lipsticks, eye shadows, eye liners and various brushes.
is it all worth it in the end? i am pretty low maintenance and do not need most of the things on this here list, but for those of you who do, how do you manage to squeeze these into the old budget?

I have to agree. Clothes and hygiene products/ maintenance cost a lot. I mean, okay, we have to use tampons and sanitary napkins monthly (most of us) apart from the soaps, moisturizers, conditioners, cosmetic products. So they do take a chunk out of the daily/ monthly budget even if you're not exactly high maintenance.
I mean, would you go to work without make up? Most of us wouldn't because it gives the impression that you're pretty sloppy so we buy powders/lipgloss/lip sticks or the bare essentials of cosmetics and they cost $, no matter how much or how little.
I can squeeze my personal stuff into a budget because I'm single

ha ha yeah being single and childless does have its perks. the bummer is that after a certain period, certain beauty products have to be thrown out, whether they have been fully used or not because of bacterial considerations. seems like we never catch a break. thankfully i never got into the habit of using things like concealer and foundation and all that, that is the expensive stuff.

ha ha yes some enhancements are necessary when one is going to somewhere like work, i guess because it is expected. one needs to look a certain way. haha when i don't put on some sort of color, i look unwell haha.

good for you, the minimalist way is the way to go in this culture of waste and excess. my one vice is cosmetic products for my face, that i cannot budge on, everything else i am not so fussy about.

I like having my nails done - I'm awful at even cutting them without making them look chewed on...an I like light makeup and I think a girl's best friend is moisturizer and sunscreen. And lately, I've decided to get out of the old tired mom look and have my hair done regularly and colored just for fun - but I also can't do my own color - I've tried, concentrated so hard to be careful and even and it comes out streaky - color in some areas not in others. But pay for it? No way. I stopped having it all done when I stopped working and couldn't justify it. And being pregnant makes you tired, and Is topped any beauty routine, and you know what, being a mom makes me tired too!
So when I found a site like this that rewards participation with spa/salon/yoga/pilates and other wellness routine I jumped on it. Now I get my products for free and my hair colored and cut etc for free. And I just recently won a gift certificate for apa - 1000 - I chose Aquaceros a medspa and had my first ever spa experience and facial. They did a skin analysis first and I'm soooooooooo lucky that I have good skin, considering I've done nothing for years. The person doing the analysis compared my skin to guys who do nothing and said I'm far different from their damaged skin -and they compare your age to others nationwide and mine was much better. I wanted something called aquatherapy facial or something like that, but the owner suggested the current months special - more gentle to see how my skin - and my rosacea reacted to it - the other one involves microdermaabrasian. So anyway, after all that rambling - that's how I squeeze, natural mineral makeup, hair care and skin care products, massages (also VERY good for skin) hair coloring, cuts and manicurs/pedicures -and this month - lash and brow tinting - that way my brows don't look so dark and no need for mascara - especially as these days its too makeupy looking. And the tinting looks just like natural dark beautiful lashes.
BTW if some of my words are missing letters its my keyboard! And the screen is far away. We're in an extended stay hotel while awaiting the decision of homeland security/customs - they're letting 119 people go from this contract so we didn't want to renew our lease or start a new one elsewhere. So we get to find out if we stay at this base or go to a new one. And my pewter is on a what was a bedside table and is now at the end of the bed. well a few feet from it - hard to see!

The nice thing is though this rewards site pays for my spa and salon visits. I'm in queue right now to redeem my augsust rewards - $300 at the Mark Pardo and now have my what's left of my $1000 dollar win in the form of a gift card to Aquaceros medispa in my wallet. I no longer pay for spa/salon visits or the skin care, hair care or natural mineral makeup - so nice!
It is hard justifying the expense - as in time away.

ha ha ha you go mamma with your bad self! it is important as a mom to take time out for oneself. i give my sister a time out every now and then by babysitting my niece who is at that 4 year old handful stage. just so my sister can go out running and just ake time for herself. it is hard to make time, but as a mother you need to be able to take a breather. i know it is pretty hard justifying the expense right, but it is essential.

hi mamabear.
i guess it depends on what shop you are buying things with for yourself right. so if you go on sale, you can get expensive clothing on a lowest price and that wouldn't be bad after all. some of them are signatured clothing line so i suppose that you wouldn't even get any problems with its quality.
if i get to like something and notices the expensiveness of the price, i wait for its price to low down just so i can get them less....

I agree, I might need more things, but I bargain hunt. Where as my man does not, if he needs something he gets where ever he is. He doesn't make lists and doesn't shop around. In the end I think I spend a little more but I get more for my dollar.

ha ha heh see the trouble with bargain hunting when it comes to beauty products is that you get what you pay for, so one has to be careful, i bargain shop too ha ha!

It is truly expensive to be a girl but you forgot an important factor in the list: handbags, clothes and shoes. Unlike most men we need several accesories for everything. Plus with us women being catty we have to have named brand stuff to boot! How to fit it in a budget, well I borrow from friends and buy things spaced out so my personal products come on 1 payday, clothes on another and shoes and suck I trade and borrow with friends. But yes it is super expensive and sometimes I feel it is worth it for the self esteem but other times like a lot of work on my part that goes mostly overlooked by men!

to date my favorite fashion accesory manbag was my ex nate. there were days when i did not want to carry anything and i would make him carry it in his pockets, and he matched all my outfits too, he also wore red and black. a mancessory can be very important. but yes it is important to have some things that look good for certain social obligations. in all honesty though, my handbag collection consists of, an army surplas medical field back in black, a ruby gloom, over the shoulder bag and a small red back pack. that is it. i have 2 pairs of boots, the one pair looks like a cross between an armored vehicle and footwear. and maybe some heels that i have inherited from my sister. i love hand me downs, i like the stories attached to them, and if i should ever need work stuff i shall just motivate myself to value village where i can get a lot of stuff for 20 dollars

i think it depends on a girl's lifestyle. i am not the girlie girl type so i don't spend money on make up or dresses or those stuff. i really don't like wearing jewelry or any type of body or hair accessories so i don't buy them. i don't use a special shampoo or conditioner or soap.
i have male friends who are more vain than i am and i am pretty sure they spend more on those stuff than i do.

i agree with you completely even though i'm not really a high maintenance girl... i don't spend lots of money on cosmetics because i don't really like to make up... but still i spend quite a bit of money on moisturizer, sunblock, powder, lipsticks, eye shadow, etc... i try to be smart though and buy those items when they are on specials... take care and have a nice day...

let me put it this way, i went shopping with my friend the other day,now i wear an xxl shirt she wears a girls small her clothes were twice the cost of mine, and thats insane. the women i know usually dont wear makeup everyday they go natural so the cost to them is minimal but ann bought something the other day that cost 85 bucks , the way i see it you women are crazy to pay those prices id boycot the makers of such products. everyday something new comes out that you just have to try, why? your all beautiful in your own way.

a lot of people are worried about aging and getting old. these are the people who fall prey to certain manufacturers as they are the one targeted. if a beauty product costs 85 dollars then it is supposed to possess some magic that reverses the signs of aging or something. thankfully i am not vain enough to fall for this, but who knows the day might come when i am. i do try to take good care of my skin. but after a certain point, nature should just be allowed to take its course. but hey we live in a society where youth and beauty are envied.

There does seem to be a lot out there for a girl to spend her money on but if you really try you can spend less too.
It depends on whether or not you're looking at the ways to spend or looking at the ways to save.
Wherever you focus is there your pocket money will be too.

It is a very interesting topic! And I agree that it is very true! Clothes, make up, pads and kinds of girls stuff cost us a lot of money and especially girls always like new stuff, like to go shopping, not saying guys don't buy girls tend to do that more.

i am fortunate in that i am not one of those girls, i am content to bargain shop and i do not need to have the latest in fashion styles, and i am not a label junkie, well except when it comes to electronics, you cannot mess around with those. you get what you pay for, my only vice is music and boots. even then i have not bought a new pair since i left england about 3 years ago.

Your totally right! Girls a very much expensive than guys. There are a lot of variety and a lot of brands available for each product a women chooses. And the highlight in this is that, all these stuffs are really expensive. Cleanser, toner, moisturizer, Compact, Lip liner, Lip stick, Lip Gloss, eye liner, Eye shadow, mascara, perfume, accessories like ear ring, ring, anklet, Chain bracelet, variety of slippers, dresses ... OMG! they list will not end. The GIRLS ARE SURELY EXPENSIVE... GUYS BEWARE! lol

ha ha ha yeah. as luck would have it i am not a run of the mill girl thankfully or else life would be pricey. and guys if you encounter a high maintenance girl, be sure to let her know that she will have to finance her own playthings ha ha ha. i would not expect someone to pay for my expensive lifestyle,i'd be too ashamed to.

I'm glad someone notices! It is expensive, plus, combined with the idea that girls love shopping (and brands love that)...the result is an economic disaster.
i always wonder why a basic t-shirt for a man can cost i.e. 5 euros, while the same one in female shape costs 10.
besides, there is a big social pressure in dressing with expensive clothes and shoes, expecially among girls. my solution is trying and buy things that just look good and cost less. body products? half of them is useless, we should just be essential and buy three or four creams that are realy useful.
make up should be by a good brand, expecially the eye make up. but a reasonably expensive good brand (not the high fashion houses ones).

i am all about the bargain hunting, and hey vintage is in and so is thrift store buying. since that is now trendy one can hide behind that and save money. i do not buy new stuff unless i need it, or if i am somewhere where there is a sale on specific items then i stock up as much as i can. but i rarely buy stuff. the most expensive things i bought this summer tank tops 5 of them for a total of 20 dollars. ha ha ha.

im not a girl but i know this stuff u are talking about :) im married also so some experience comes from there also...
i would say it is not really important to spend SOO much of money on yourself. If one is just plain careful with food and stuff, you dont really need all those cares. If you exercise and take lots of water, you skin will stay bright and you'll be in shape. Just taking the right kind of food can improve ur health and everything else. Afterall all those creams comes from nature.
One just had to look into it a bit to know what is good for what...
I agree on women spending some money on all this, but to some extent.
just my 2 cents :)

ha ha ha easy for you to say. woman have it hard in that our hormones can get out of wack for no reason at all. this is turn causes us to either gain weight or get really bad skin breakouts or both. for this we then need specific products that target these problems, in order for us to feel better about ourselves. it is that genetic predisposition again. men are genetically predisposed to spread the seed. our conditioning is to capture the said man by looking as appealing as possible

I thought being a child is much more expensive. Think of how much you have to spend on diapers, baby food, shots, clothes, school fees, and so on. :) Being a woman is not at all expensive for me. I only spend on clothes. I never use cosmetics. Nopes, I am not ugly either. LOL!! You cannot say that being a girl is expensive. I know men who spend a fortune on drinks, cars, and digital items alone. ;)
Cheers and happy Mylotting

i remember how happy my sister was when we finally potty trained my niece because that then limited the expense, it started with her starting on solid food so no more formuala. then she moved onto no diapers and boy is that load off. newly minted babies are very expensive, but totally worth it!

I agree with you that being a girl is definitely expensive! Even for those of us who aren't high maintenance. I'm not high maintenance but I still require things like feminine products, shampoo, conditioner, lotions, perfumes, etc. I think there are some guys out there that probably spend close to what we do for their personal products but overall I would say girls probably spend significantly more!

When i read your topic, i thought, 'yes! yes!!'. lol. its true. it is expensive, you forgot clothes. we wear more clothes than guys, (i do. i like my jackets), and they aren't cheap either. I can't say i can manage to get all the things you mentioned. but i wish i could. is it worth it? i honestly don't know. there are days when i tell myself, if i had all the things the models in the magazine or tv have, i could be just like them, then there are days that i just don't care. But one thing is for sure, if i had extra cash, i would most definitely be buying myself all the things i want.

craziness right and something small like bras and underoos are so expensive, especially bras, but then again you can't get bargain ones because again, you get what you pay for. if you buy a cheapo bra, it tends not to last very long. and well let us face it which woman does not like pretty undergarments. i am a tomboy at heart, but i do so love pretty underoos :)

I'm 100% agreeing with you. Yes, it's more expensive, sometimes the differences between products for men and for women are so big that it seems too damn unfair. I suppose they think that a woman who repects herself, is careful with her hygiene, and therefore she's willing to pay as much as possible in order to look beautiful and clean.
I admit that since I have a baby I am more cautious when it comes to our budget, but also I tend to spent money especially for him, I consider he needs more than I do. However, I do buy cosmetics from time to time. It's not because I need to be more beautiful, I simply like to be careful about my appearance, I feel very good in my own skin, I like to leave behind me a pleasant fragrance when I get out from a room. Let's say that I consider that a beautiful woman is one who takes care of herself, not necessarily one who has a great physical aspect. You now how they say, beauty is no longer graceful if you neglect yourself.

hey a girl needs her pretty and prettyfying things. guys sure do have it easy and a lot of them just do not understand, and they say they love us just the way that we are, but my sister when i was younger drilled it into me that i should never leave the house without makeup on, even if i am just going to the corner store. she is way girly, and i tease her about being vain. but that has stayed with me all these years. so i always have a little make up on. not makeover style makeup, but some lightly colored gloss and some kohl round the eyes then i am done.
