Digital photography is photography using a digital camera. Film photography is an analogue process. But in practice, they are both photography using different tools.

The biggest difference between plain old photography and digital photography is that photography requires a lot more equipment. Because images are taken on film, you need to have the equipment to develop your negatives yourself or you have to take the negatives to a place that can develop them for you. It takes chemicals to develop the film, special paper to transfer the images to, and a darkroom that's lit by a red bulb so that the paper doesn't react with it. With digital photography, things are a lot more simple. The camera stores images on a memory card or in its internal memory, not on film. Anyone can 'develop' their own digital photos--all it takes is a computer and a printer. Digital photos are also easier to share, because you can upload them directly to the internet without having to resize them.
