Kidney stone bothered me a lot during this year's summer vacation.

Hello my dear fellow mylotters,
It was more than two decades ago when I suffered from kidney stone, so painful. I took a lot of medicine for it and also received intravenous drops for getting rid of the pain when it arose. For more than ten years, I did not have any pain again and I thought it was gone.
But on the morning of July 31st, I was wondering how come I was having such a pain in the left kidney. I tried to sleep on bed to wait for its disappearance, but in vain. At about four o'clock in the afternoon, my wife accompanied me to the local hospital for it. As soon as I told my doctor about the pain, he soon said that I had kidney stone and asked me to have an ultrasonic and urine test. The result was that I had a kidney stone, the size of a soybean.
Later I listened to the doctor's advice to have the kidney stone smashed by one special kind of machine that smashed the stone into pieces. ( I am sorry I have no idea how to express myself with the name of the machine.)
After that I was told to drink plenty of water and jump every so often. But each time I jumped, I had a terrible pain for the whole day. I had to forget it and just let it go. In the following days, I could feel that the stone was moving down bit by bit till it reached the lower part of the bladder. Then it stayed there for a couple of weeks.
On the afternoon of August 24th, I was so happy that the troublesome stone that was the cause of my pain came out of my body when I was using the bathroom. I was so pleased with its coming out. The stone is now the size of a green bean and I am keeping it in a plastic bottle as a memory.
How relieving it is when it is out of my body!
In the second half of the summer vacation I spent in the pain of the kidney stone. In fact I did not have a good summer vacation because of the pain it brought me, but I am still glad that the kidney stone is no longer there to make trouble for me.
My dear friends, have you ever had any body stone like kidney stone that I had, please? How did you get it out of your body? Did you drink a lot of water and jump a lot? Or did you have it smashed by such a machine as is described, please?
Take care, my dear friends.

I believe i know what pain you are talking about. Its terrible pain and hurts so bad. I have had kidney stones since the age of 9 and they tell me i should have one every 9 months to 3 years and i haven't had one since i was 18 and now i just turned 24 and am so excited i haven't had one lately.
Also the machine that they put you on was probably lithotripsie where they shake you and the stone breaks up into pieces. I have had that done before to me and actually twice and neither time worked for me. I have never passed a kidney stone but have always had surgeries for them to be removed and the pain is so bad when your having one.

Hello lologirl. I am so sorry that you have had such experience as well. Yeah, what a pain it is! There is no proper position we can have when the pain happens.
It is a machine where I lie on my back with a hammer hitting the kidney stone area for about thirty minutes. Each hit causes a little pain when the stone is hit.
Take care, friend.

Barley water? I have not heard of it, but I am interested in it. Next time when I go to the supermarket, I will check if I can get some barley from it. Thank you so much for the information, dear meapas.

Thank you so much for the detailed response that I have learned more about barley, but I am sorry to say that we don't have barley in the south of China, only in the north. Anyway I will try my luck to see whether I can get some in the supermarket next time when I go shopping. Best regards.

Dear William,
So sorry hearing about your 'kidney stone' (stone bladder) and the painful moment you've had encountered. I can delve into your doleful story about it as I'd my chronic heart attack (angina & infarction). What I can tell and share with you is about 'Walking Medicine' (WM) for my daily physical exercise as well as nature treatment after taking my Chelation and EECP therapies, and once in a month I perform my WM by walking up the hill near my living area for 3 km. which is in total 6 km. for to and fro.
Back to drinking water, everyday I am taking homemade fresh ginger coffee for 3L and 1.5L purified water, a must. I've seen, touched, and observed the said 'kidney stone' belongs to one patient during I was warded in ICU angiogram & angioplastiy) for my chronic heart attack surgery treatment.
To my knowledge, drinking adequate of water will help much in avoiding ourselves from having 'kidney stone'.....the only way and a kind of nature treatment. My hope, you can perform WM regularly for only 30 minutes in a day, everyday. I tell and share for things that I did.
Let us hear from other members about 'kidney stone' precaution and method of treatment which I believe theirs would be much better than mine.

Hello Michael. Thank you so much for sharing with me your way of dealing with it by walking medicine. I think that it is a very good way to walk for about thirty minutes a day because enough walking helps the movement of the body including kidney stone. Or if there is no kidney stone, it helps prevent the formation of it any longer. I appreciate your response a lot and wish you to take good care of yourself, my dear friend. Best regards and stay healthy.

Oh ,you really must have hard time taking all that pain in your stride . It seems so strange that such substances harden and occupy space in our body;causing so much of pain .
I hope that you are ok now .
By the way;that is a good avatar - from where did you got the inspiration ?

Hi William, I'm glad I have no such problem. I think the traditional chinese medicine has some herbs to get rid of small kidney stones without jumping up and down.
In Singapore, hardly anyone pays attention to such minor problem as kidney stone. We have so many cancer patients and heart diseases patients. Once my friend called to say that her colleague was in hospital for minor stroke. He was just in his early 30s.
The funny thing is that out of six patients in the ward, there is only one old man. The rest are young patients. It seem that young people are getting cancer and heart attacks. No wonder they dont grow old enough! At this rate, hospitals will run out of older patients.

Hello scheng1. It seems that there is a trend that young people are getting some more diseases nowadays due to their stressful work and some unhealthy lifestyle. So it is with me. I am not fond of doing exercises and love to sit next to the laptop when I have time without wanting to go for some kind of sports, which does not do any good to my health. I think that it is time for me to make some changes in life. Thank you for your response. Take care, friend.

haha, maybe that's why God gives you some kidney stones, so that you can exercise by jumping up and down.
I remember I loved to jump up and down on the bed with my siblings. We would laugh and scream while jumping up and down on the my parents' bed. It's fun until my mother spanked all of us. The spanking really improved blood circulation. We could count the bloody strokes on our skin.
Better go and jump up and down on your bed, since you are so lazy to exercise!

I do not know the cause of your kidney stones, but my daughter had a problem with kidney stones for about a year while she was a nursing student. She said the pain was almost unbearable,; and yes, she ended up in the hospital a few times for help. She finally ran across a doctor that helped her. She was told to stop taking vitiman supplements more than a few times a week and to cut her salt and caffiene intake. She followed this doctors advice and has not has any problems in the last several years.
Most doctors would want your kidney stone to test it to find the underlying cause of the stones in the first place. I do not know what they can learn from an older stone, but as you have kept it you might want to discuss it with your doctor.

Hello lawana_f. Thank you so much for your response from which I have learned something new. I did not know that the doctor might be able to give an analysis to the underlying cause of the formation of my kidney stone. I would like to talk about it with my doctor later on. Right now I am unable to as I am away from my hometown and work in another city. I will take it home with me when I go back to my hometown once again next time. But I remember that my doctor told me not to drink coffee and tea. I seldom drink coffee, only once in while for a pack of instant coffee sent to me by my friend. But I do drink tea every day when I work. I will try to reduce the amount of tea. Take care, dear friend.

Hi jisir, when seeing the topic of your discussion I was shocked for a short while. I had seen the husband of one of my colleagues suffered from the unbearable pain before. I feel relieved finally after I finish reading the whole story. Yeah, I could understand deeply how suffering you were when having the painful assault.
You are still fortunate, right? At least you had your caring loved one to accompany, to comfort and to take good care of you during such very moment. If this were to happen in your working place the situation would be worse still. I believe we would feel very much better if our beloved partner is beside us when encountering whatever pain or difficulty.
I haven’t come across any body stone before. Hopefully no stone would like to pick my gall bladder, kidney as well as bladder as its favorite spot to settle down I’m quite scared of having such type of “diamond” in any of my body organ.
My husband was not as lucky as you. When I was away from home and worked in an adjacent small town many years back. My husband did have kidney stone. He took lemon juice thrice a day. Anyway he was still lucky that he had his sisters together. After visiting his doctor. He took lots of distilled water and jump in place hundreds of times daily. The red bean sized stone came out in several pieces in different time finally . I was told that the urine was a bit bloody as well.
Take care and happy posting!

Oh, it didn’t occur to me that you had to encounter another misfortune again after back to your school. Oh god, it’s a high fever! Yeah, I believe it’s an unforgettable and miserable week for you. Really, you had hurt your throat by over straining it. It’s was sad that you had to give so many continual lessons in many classes after the long summer vacation
I know you are a good and responsible teacher jisir Anyway you still have to take good care of your throat. Both the throat and voice are the essential “tools” for a teacher. Hopefully you could plan your lessons nicely, so as to let your “tools” to have a short while of rest in every class. I wonder whether giving some written work after the lesson in the class could help a teacher to let the throat to have an appropriate rest
Take care and happy posting!

Hello lkbooi. Yeah, I am thinking of some ways to have the students do more speaking in class by answering my questions raised for them so that my throat can have somewhat rest and they can also practise their knowledge. I am glad to say that my throat is getting better though it has not been completely recovered. Such a case of having a sore throat usually happens at the beginning of a school term, but I never experienced high fever for this. I hate to have a high fever, so horrible. With this high fever, I had three injections including one intravenous drops. Thank you so much for the comment, lkbooi. Good night and take care.

Hello lkbooi. Despite the pain from the kidney stone, I was lucky that my wife was next to me to accompany me to the hospital. But I was unlucky when I got back to school after the end of the summer vacation, because I got a high fever on September 4th-- 39.6 degrees centigrade and the whole night I did not sleep because of the fever. It was caused by my sore throat, which was caused by my speaking too much in class. You know, teachers throats need to be used so much in teaching. And during the long summer vacation, I did not teach, meaning I had no chance to speak that long and that much in so many classes straight. Even the cup of water I took to my classrooms did not work for my throat. But now I am ok with my throat after a week of being sick...Thank you for the caring comment, my dear friend.

In India we extract the juice of banana tree trunk's inside white portion, which is called banana trunk, (vazhai thandu in Tamil language and araTi dhoota in telugu language), and drink. I am sorry how to explain, the banana tree's middle portion will be there is it not? Go on peeling out the trunk and inside one white trunk will be there. That is THE BEST for kidney stone. We cook them and eat regularly. We make curd pachadi and vegetable curry out of it and also koottu to mix in rice and eat. When somebody has kidney stone, they cut it (cut and round the thread that comes out of it to finger and then cut one piece like that), put it to mixie with water and drink that water everyday. This will clean the stone. No side effect. Please take this for a month or at least a fortnight. If any Indian is there, please ask them, they will guide you. Easy to make the juice and good result. Get well soon my friend. I will pray God that it will not recover.

hello williamjisir,
so happy for you for the kidney stones in your body were already gone. hope it will not happen again.
some say, that drinking milk is one of the causes of kidney stone. that we need to drink a lot of water before we sleep if we happen to drink milk. and that we need to use the bath room before going to bed.
they say that drinking water with lemon will help too. nothing to lose anyway, if we'll try.

I am sorry to hear that. At least now your cased is cured. This is the good news. My colleague has the kidney stone, too. Since it's not very big, so the doctor suggested her to drink plenty of water everyday. And it's better not to skip the breakfast because it is likely to lead to the kidney stone if you don't have a breakfast in the morning. And if she has a seat in the bus, then it's better to sit in the back seat so that the stone may have a chance to get out of her body:)

Hello my friend williamjisir Ji,
It is a great relief for you, I can very well understand your restless condition during pain and also i can understand your relief as well, as I did suffer with some kind of constipation for more than 72 hrs once. Now forget about it but you may have to take some precautionary measures as below. For more you may log on to following :-
http://www.umm.edu/urology-info/stones.htm#
"How development of future kidney stones may be prevented:
According to the National Kidney and Urologic Diseases Foundation, the best ways to avoid getting kidney stones is the following:
Drink more water -- up to 12 full glasses of water a day can help to flush away the substances that form stones in the kidneys. Ginger ale, lemon-lime sodas, and fruit juices are acceptable, but water is best.
Limit coffee, tea, and cola to one or two cups a day. The caffeine may cause a rapid loss of fluid.
Consult your physician regarding dietary modifications.
Medications may be prescribed to prevent calcium and uric acid stones."
May god bless You and have a great time.

Awww williamjisir, I am so sorry you had to go through all that pain and ruin your summer vacation. Hope you are feeling 100% better now. I have had kidney stones but was able to get rid of them on my own. I'm a female so it wasn't as difficult as you men have to experience. Had them many years ago and never again had a problem.

My husband has had problems with kidney stones. He went to the doctor and got the pain killers and none of it seemed to work. Then my boss suggested he go to a naturopath that she always went to. He did acupuncture and gave him a special tea that was supposed to desolve the stones. Within a couple days his kidney stones passed and he was feeling better. Now, anytime he feels a stone creeping up he drinks some of the tea and the stone passes and he's fine. I wish I could tell you what this magical tea was made of, but they put it together at the office.

I personally have never had a kidney stone, however my husband does. He was in intense pain on the 12th of August when his started moving from his kidney to his bladder that he was writhing in pain on the floor in our living room. I rushed him to the emergency room where they did an ultrasound to determine if it was a kidney stone, which we knew that it was, and then give him pain medication and phergan to help with the associated nausea.
He was told to drink plenty of water and let it pass on it's own, it is significantly smaller than the size that requires lithotripsy (the procedure which you were explaining).
