Night people are better than morning people: http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=early-risers-crash-faster-than-people-who-stay-up-late OK, I'm just kidding really. But I am a night owl and I just can't relate to the morning person thing, sorry. So which are you? Got any stories around it?

Hi dawnald, I am a confirmed insomniac. It is now 4.00 am in my time here and am still very much alive not even feeling sleepy now. My eyes are tuned to sleep only with the first sound of the c0ck crows that is at the wee hours of the morning.

Hi Dawn. I'm a night owl - and a morning bright - and an all day person too. I am always out of bed before 5.00am - usually way before five. As soon as there is a flicker of wakefulness, I bounce out of bed with a big smile, rearing to go. A quick brekky with a cup of coffee and a glance through the local paper and I'm set for the day. I am very seldom in bed before midnight and I NEVER nap in the daytime. I begrudge time spent in bed as wasted time. If I have a rush job I can work all night and keep going all the next day and keep to my usual routine. The only time I ever get tired is if I am not busy, and thankfully that doesn't happen very often. Workaholic? I guess so - but it depends on the work. Apply that to housework, and it doesn't apply at all (but I do keep a clean house). Apply it to my voluntary work in children's ministry and I'm happy to keep going non-stop. Sorry Dawn. I know people like me make you sick, but that is the way I am. Maybe I'll change when I get old?

Scuse me, looking around for an airsick bag. Well really, I would love to be like that. I could catch up on so many things. Although I do love sleeping in, I would like it even better if I didn't need so much sleep. (shhh don't tell anybody)

I'm not really a night person although I used to be! I used to work nights, twelve hour shifts. I tried sleeping during the day whilst I was working this shift but it became very difficult due to workmen drilling, hammering and generally making a tremendous amount of noise. So, I left my job and decided that I would never work nights again. I'm sure that it's bad for your so called body clock. I'm definitely a morning person now! I wake up early and I like to start the day with a big breakfast like boiled eggs and a cup of tea with toast. Everyone is different though and everyone prefers different hours of the day too I think! Andrew

I prefer not to do mornings if I don't have to. I do appreciate a nice sunrise though.

it takes a lot of coffee for me to get going in the morning. i've said before that some mornings i'd be quite happy with a jar of coffee and a spoon. back when i used to smoke my routine was effectively get as many chemicals as i can into me, have a shower with my eyes half closed and maybe an hour or too later i'd be awake. i also never go to sleep early no matter what time i get up.

i am not a night person although i stay up very late at night, at times. i have a permanent day work which keeps me up early. i still have time to go to the badminton court and play and still enough time to be with my children. so little time and so much things to do ... evenings find me here at mylot and when tired, i play tumblebugs...

I'm more of a night person. But it feels uncomfortable while having less and adjusted sleeps. So being a day person is still a good and healthy lifestyle.

I am a nocturnal animal, not because I am a wolf, it's because I function much better at night, I am more active, alert and can get more work done. I guess that's why I function well when I used to do shiftwork in a call centre, I would always choose the night shifts. I hate the mornings, I am like a grumpy, bad tempered bear, I can't do mornings full stop. I also need 10 hours sleep as well so I tend to stay up late and sleep through most of the mornings, it's very rare to see me up before 10.30am and that's a struggle.

I'm both. I stay up late for me because I like to and because if I go to bed early, I toss and turn and become very uncomfortable. I can only lie down a maximum of 7-8 hours and that rarely happens. Late is midnight or even later. I get up between 5:00am and 7:00am, depending on the weather and the season...my animals get me up. The town chickens wake my goats and my goats wake me. I can start feeling sleepy at 9:00am or 10:00am...by sleepy I mean falling asleep at the computer or yawning my head off in the car if I'm going somewhere. If I travel to see my Dad who lives over 3 hours away, I have to psych myself up for a week or more so I can sleep properly for at least 3 nights before I leave, otherwise my journey can be a nightmare with me fighting to stay awake. Most days, I have a 2 hour afternoon nap and this seems to balance things out. Does that make me a bit weird or what?

I am totally a moring person.....it's not that I don't like to stay up late but I think since my work schedule has been that I go in early it's like a routine...Once in a great while I do stay up....but then I am usually awake close to my normal time so if I stay up too late I suffer from lack of sleep....

I've joked that my energy hits the moment the kids fall asleep, because it does seem to work out that way. I'll be ready for a nap all day and night, but the moment they're finally settled and quiet in bed I start waking up, then it takes me a good couple hours before I can think about sleep.

When my children were young I had been to known to cry just because it was morning. I really do not like mornings. A country bus would come round the corner and blast the horn every morning about 5.30 and this would wake up the children. I wanted to zap the driver. don't do well in the mornings until I have had 2 cups of coffee. But funnily enough, if I am forced to get up early to drive somewhere I really enjoy seeing the sun come up - all happy. Nah, prefer the nights. My husband was a morning person and he would play tricks like turning the shower water to cold whilst I was bathing. I did not think it funny.

I don't even know which category I would fall under. I'm always late to bed and early to rise and I barely ever get more than 4 hours of sleep! What would you call me?

Very, but I think it would be great not to need so much sleep. If I get less than 7 - 8 hours, I'm totally out of it.

I am night owl too, thank you for the research study, I never thought staying up late can be better for my physical and mental health. But I want to say something, staying up late make me feel better about myself, right now it is night but I feel quite alive and ambitious. I like it at night, I can concentrate more in the solitude and tranquility. Mornings seem to be slow for me, I always liked the night shifts but I never really had a night job.

I am usualy the type that wants to go to sleep before midnight. There are exceptions but I like the full 8 hours of sleep. I am cranky when I am too sleepy lol and do not function well if I don't get the eight hours.

I am also a night owl. So that's mean we night owls are better in doing work ? (sorry early risers, don't kill me!) But it seem I do perform better starting from noon to night. I still remember during university, I could do my assignment even after 3 am in the morning. But I do envy early risers though. They can wake up fresh in the morning for work while I need to drag myself out of bed.

Hi Dawnald, I have a regular sleeping time in my daily life, 8 hours is a must plus half of an hour napping taken in the noon, otherwise I will say my life will be messed up. Turely, except I happened to unhappy issue, I will stay all night and surfing all the night, but I will try to avoid to be a night owl///
