How often do you sweep your floors?

I know this may sound real strange because we all sweep our floors. The reason Im asking is Me and my hubby had went to visit some friends of ours. While I was there for about 2 hours she swept her dining room floor I know of two times. I actually got tickled at her and ask what she was doing..She told me that she can't not stand to see anything on her floors and that she sweeps them often. Now to me that is getting a little carried away with cleaniness. What do you think? She is a compusive cleaner?

Hello my friend
It sounds to me your friend may have OCD ( obsessive compulsive disorder ) I don't know anyone that actually has this problem but I am familiar with it, when I was younger I use to have a thing with even numbers, if I touched you I had to touch you twice, or anything for that matter, even if I count it my head it had to be even, I grew out of it, I use to say to myself stop it, still sometimes I know it is there but I control it, not sure if this is called the same thing, I guess if I allowed it to take control it may have gotten worse.
I consider myself a neat freak but this is beyond that.

Hi rosepedal, we have a maid doing the cleaning in the mornings, and in summers because our city gets very dry and dusty, I make her sweep in the evenings as well. However, if the house were to get dirty in between, like the dogs bringing in more mud, or children spilling something, I would sweep and clean it up. I also think the more the number of members living in the house, the more the house can get dusty and dirty, because of more footwear. This can also happen when the person has a lot of guests. Sweeping twice in two hours is admittedly on higher side, unless it was only at that time. People tend to be like that when they have done a major clean up job, or have moved into a new house. Once they realize that it is a waste of time like thea pointed out, complacency sets in. :) May be she felt ur house was very clean, and so she felt u might get a bad impression about her. Normally, here, nobody cleans up when the visitors are around. :) May be just then the dogs really did bring the dirt. :) Its a bit difficult to assess correctly whether or not she is compulsive.

Hello vandana..How are you today? Good I hope on this Sunday afternoon...
You have pointed out some very good points. I have never really put it into the matter of she might be worried about what I think. You are right with a new house at first I think everyone has the cleaning spirit. Hey..could you send over your maid to my house...LOL...Thanks for your thought and I really appreciate you bringing new ideals to my mind about her..You have a wonderful day..

Hi rosepedal, I am good, thank u. Hope u too are in good spirits. :) Thank u for the BR as well. Really appreciate it when native English speaking persons, and people with good command over English give BR. :) It is very encouraging. :) Have a great day. :) And BTW, my maid would love to work at ur place, provided u pay her air fares, and can give her 8 idlis with chutneys every morning and some vegetarian fare for lunch and dinner.

No, I think she was just trying to send you a polite message that it was time to go. Perhaps she was not feeling up to having company or had other really urgent private matters to which she needed to attend. Some people find themselves unable to tell a guest the visit is over so they do these other little things trying to be polite and give a hint.

I never thought of it that way. We hadn't seen them for over 4 months andthey do live about 80 miles away from us. Humm...I will have to ask her that. Good point to bring up. But now what if that was true, I will feel really bad about being there..

Don't feel bad, but if it was true and she couldn't tell you to your face then, I sure would not expect her to answer truthfully now if you asked her! I am sure your friend loved seeing you, but maybe something came up suddenly just before you arrived that put her in a tight spot. Or maybe she is just compulsively clean, lol. I would surely just let it pass.
This sort of thing is why I prefer to do most of my socializing in what we call a "neutral place" such as a restaurant. That way anybody can graciously back out at any time and nobody needs to worry about overstaying their welcome. If we are not hungry or don't want to spend money on food, then maybe we meet at a park or in a shopping mall.

I think she is... if she says she can't stand to see anything on her floors.. then that's absolutely a compulsive cleaner, atleast when it comes to the floors. lol.
I don't really sweep the floors that much, even if it's already obviously dirty. hehehehe.. I would probably sweep the floors if we're having guests or something.

I think she is a compulsive cleaner. I tell my maid to clean our floor twice a day. One in the morning and once in the evening. Even if I see some dirt or paper bits I ask her to clean only that portion.
I have an aunt who find work when she doesnt have any to do!! She takes out clothes from the wardrobe and again wash it...All day she spends doing cleaning work.

I probably don't do mine often enough. I used to keep things clean looking at least but over the past 2 years , housework has little by little become too much for me. One of the reasons is that there are not enough cupboards where I really need them, so stuff sits on the floor looking untidy and then cleaning the floor becomes too hard because I have to move everything...see my dilemma??
Any excuse not to do housework is a good excuse in my book. Unfortunately I prefer my house to be at least tidy if not scrupulously clean.

Hi MsTickle..I like the way you think. I like a clean house but I want to look like someone lives there too. I have been in houses that look like they are on show for sale, and the bad thing is that it looks like that all the time. Thanks for sharing and you have a wonderday day..Smile

hi rose, i do the sweeping work every day to sometime an alternate if i am not feeling well. otherwise i just cant stand untidiness and all. if after my cleaning our baby spills somethings i immediately cleans it up and if i see a speck of something on my floor i am after all to clean the floor. my baby walks bare feet as she is too small to wear any footwear. i make her wear sandals sometimes but then too she removes . so i have to take care of cleanliness a lot.

When my boys was little I would do the same. I always kept an eye on the floors. They seem to spot something on the floor quicker than I could...LOL..Then I went thru the same with my grandkids..In a way I kinda miss the babies being around..I youngest grandson is now 6 years...Thanks for the comment and you have a nice day...

Well... that depends. If you have messy kids that makes sense. I need to get myself one of those elegant looking cone dustbusters because I have a lot of tile and it's white. There are times when I sweep or use my shop vac more than once or twice during the day. I don't think I would feel as inclined if my tile wasn't white - you see EVERYTHING on white. And no, I did not choose white tile. We were cursed with it lol.

WHITE...OUCH...I agree with you that you must have been cursed with it..I have beige title in my kitchen and it is hard enough to keep clean looking. I would not want to be in your shoes with that white..LOL..Thanks for your comments and have a nice day..

That does seem to be a bit too much for two hours. Usually I vacuum and stuff only once a week at most. I mean, dust and other stuff does build up, but isn't it easier to get rid of it all at once rather than cleaning multiple times for the same amount of grime? In your friend's case, it is a bit more compulsive than most people would be, but I do know of people that are really touchy about keeping their possessions clean, so I'm not bashing her behaviour or anything, I'm just saying that I probably wouldn't do the same thing.

Well the thing about doing quick maintenance cleaning instead of waiting and then doing everything say once a week is that if you wait and let it build up, it takes MUCH longer. Quick clean ups for me might take a total of 20 minutes out of a whole day. For example, a quick sweep or vacuum and mop, empty trashcans, wipe counters, make sure all dishes are washed or in the dishwasher, laundry is in the washer, dryer, or folded and put away, bleach in toilets, seriously only takes maybe 20 minutes or less, TOTAL. I don't have to do all of those things daily, but if I just left it for a week and didn't do ANYTHING, then it would end up taking like an hour. I don't want to waste an hour. I'd rather spend 10-12 minutes every day or every other day lol. Then I know the most time I'd have to spend at any one time to get things company-ready is 20 minutes. That beats an hour or two!

I like the way you all think. I guess Im little on the lazy side when it comes to housework. Sweeping the floors is like washing the dishes it is something that I am not too fond of. Heck, I ain't fond of any kind of house work. I wish I could hire a maid to do it all..LOL...Wouldn't that be nice..

It is okay to sweep floor even as many times as you liked. :) But with visitors around, I'll get shy if I'll do that. LOL! Maybe shes compulsive and can't stand messy area and doesn't want so much clutter around.I hope she won't be too compulsive and have it as a habit.

I do a maximum of 1 time a day. And I don't sweep on sundays. When I was in my Secondary school, its Principal was a retired army man and so was so strict. He taught us that we should not be shy in doing whatever our duties are. He taught that we should keep our houses clean and so he used to give sweeping training in theLunch hours to the bad behaviour students. His strictness rurned many BAD boys into GOOD boys. I still remember him very much.

hi rosepedal64!
well i sweep my floor when i notice that there are so much dirt in my room... since i don't really like sweeping dusts because i am allergic to it once i inhale the dust i won't stop sneezing until it causes me to have colds... that is why my mom always gets mad at me. she don't get to understand why i don't sweep that much...

Hello skbh
My sister has the same kind of reaction to her sweeping the floors. She found a solution to the problem. She will take a paper towel and wet it. Then ties it on to the broom. It keeps the dust down and helps her not to have a sneezing fit after she sweeps..Give it try and see if it works for you..

My mother has a chemical inbalance in her brain she used to clean sweep mop everyday before the doctor found her the right medicine this lady has mental issues that is for sure maybe OCD. That means obssessive compulsive Disorder. If there is not mental illness you might want to ask her if she is OK and if there is anything going on in her life with her family friends etc. I sometimes would like to sweep everyday if there is a mess but twice a day in really a waste of time if there is that much dirt coming in then you might as well let it till the next day.
