Do You Often Speak Before You Think?

I am one of those people who really tries to think about something before I respond, but I do have my moments when I just say things in the heat of the moment. My husband is always saying things before he thinks about it and there have been a few times when we have gotten into an argument as a result. Do you think before you speak?

I do try to stop and think before I speak and most times I make that happen. Sometimes, however, I spout out things that I later regret. I am trying to resolve one issue over that now. I made a statement to someone that I shouldn't have and now my husband and I are both paying the price. When I try to fix it, it just gets more complicated. I think there are more people than not that speak before they think.

sometimes, not sure if it's because I enjoy conversation and love to talk. But there are times I get way ahead of myself and totally forget my point or what the topic of the discussion was too begin with. Funny?????

Hi lynnemg. It depends. For instance, when I post on here I tend to think before I speak. However, I don't always do the same when it comes to talking to people face to face. I sometimes speak before I think, which can get me in trouble. So now I try to keep my mouth shut instead. Happy mylotting!

I usually try to speak before I think. But when it comes to a touchy subject, or if I am in a heated debate with someone, sometimes it becomes difficult to pause. I think it just all comes blurting out. And sometimes I even say things that I don't mean to. However, there are times when I don't speak my mind. Someone will something to me and I will either not respond or just be really nice. Then about 3 or 4 hours later, an excellent response comes to my head. That's when I think to myself, why didn't I think about that at the moment. I guess I'm just not good at debates and arguing. LOL I found this an interesting topic. Would like to know how some people maintain their cool in debates!

I don't often speak before I think, but I have done it. I am guilty, I have said some stupid things in my life that I should not have said. I think it was more thinking out loud than anything. I said one thing that was so badly timed that it is really embarrasing, but what can I do, I can't take it back. I also said something really stupid one time that my husband thought was so funny because it was so stupid that he told all our family and friends and now they still make fun of me for it, even though I said it like 18 years ago.

I used to but I put my foot in my mouth so often that I worked hard to stop doing that. I used to say whatever came into my head but I think as we get older we grow more cautious and also more aware of other peoples' feelings.

hi lynnemg, I am one of those who often type before I think. As I am online a lot, I do most of my communication online via messenger, email and many more. In chats especially, I tend to let my fingers do the talking. And sometimes, once I've type and press ENTER, it is sometimes too late to discover that certain things doesnt come out right! But anyway, if the chat friend is a true friend, any misunderstanding can surely be resolved. :)

Sometimes I think before I speak, but other times I just say things and sort it out later. It depends on the situation, who I am with, and the mood I am in. If I'm in a goofy mood, then sometimes I'll just say silly things for the fun of it, even though they might not make a lot of sense. Usually, though, my friends can follow my logic, and they understand what I'm trying to say.
