My friends just kidding me that if she has a dorm of her own, she will paint it in black. I don't know whether the joke will come true or not as she will do whatever she can do. LOL And I just jokes back," Is there any black paint on sale in the market?"
She descripe her romantic dream to me, " a black wall, fluorescent star or animal, then I can count on before sleeping." LOL...I just think of how horrible they are with the black wall.
What is the wall colour of your bedroom? Is it at normal white, or anything pink colour as in hotel? Will you change your wall colour every serveral years?

no, i don't like to paint my bedroom black. it would be very gloomy and sad staying inside a black room. darker color makes anything look smaller.
i would like to paint my room with lighter shades. it would be light to my feeling and i feel happy and fresh with the lighter shades.
if i had the money, i would paint it anytime i like!

Hehe,, Different people has different taste to their life, per my friend's special favourite, I do not agree at the very first beginning. But after I listened to the comment the upstairs, I feel that only with the matched colour of your furniture, accessories, lamp, the bedroom feeling would be definitely different. If the paint did not have the toxicity, I would like to change the wall colour any time as well..LOL.

Hello, Shuying, I prefer to use wallpaper, other than the nontoxic, it's more convenient. We do not have the habit of pain our wall by ourselves, neither to change it often. By the way, I like it to be colorful, it would be good if there are some nice pattern on it, my son will love it. Hava a nice day and happy mylotting.

I am an interior designer and this topic interests me a lot. Yes, there is black paint available in the market and there's nothing wrong with painting a room black as long as you have reasons for doing so. But you have to remember that black is the absence of all colors so it would be hard to lit an entirely black room. You should also be aware of the effects it can cause the user of the room. For your friend who is thinking of doing it for a dorm room, I do not think it would be such a good idea. First of all, it may affect her studies. A black room is not inducive to studying and s/he would have a hard time lighting her room at night when s/he has to review or do homeworks. But if s/he is sure that she can manage living with such a room, then there's be no problem. But for me, I prefer limiting that kind of concept to commercial interiors and those that people do not really spend most of their time in.
As for my wall color, I am a sucker for basic colors so I painted it dark beige. It was the result of me mixing brown, yellow, red and black (!). It's neat and kinda boring but I opt to provide colors for my room through my furniture and accessories. This is so when I get bored of a certain color, I just change my furniture or accessories without really having to repaint my whole room again.

Hi Calai,
Appreciate for your professional comment there and thanks for telling me that there is black paint available in the market,hehe^-^. The person who loves the black colour always have an artist blood, just like my friend.
Limiting that kind of black concept to the commercial interiors is a good idea, and it is ture that it will affect the the eye from the health perspective, I will forward your message to her as advice, and if she really would like to apply it, she had better ask to design a twin dorm, one is for normal use and another for sleeping only or fantacy.LOL...
I can image the dark beige with the mixing colour, I assumed that it must be neat and very comfortable colour, I will take it as advice of mine if someday I have my own house.

So your friend is an artist? Now I know the reason why she wants that look for her room. :D Since that is the case, then i guess it is definitely fine with her to have such a room. People like her are usually enliven when they are in a very artistic environment so that type of room might actually do her good. She might become more enthusiastic and attentive when she is in a place that she likes. If that certain strange idea would provide more benefits than harm, then it's okay to give that idea a try. Say good luck to your friend from me! :D

Hi, sasalove.
The wall color of my bedroom is white. All walls in our house are painted white. Not my choice, as it is my parents' house
I love black though. I think it's classy with the right accessories. A black-walled bedroom would be interesting. But before I color my bedroom walls with black, I have to make sure that I have the right furniture and decors for it.
Have a nice day!

Remember you can't see bugs crawling on your black walls. That's a big drawback. In any case I have a small bedroom I allowed my daughter to paint black when she was fifteen. After several months of pleadings, I gave in. She had the second smallest bedroom in the house and she painted it a high gloss black (including trim) and it seemed to make her room appear larger. She painted the doors and ceiling a primer white. She has since moved out but I have kept the black because I love it. I had expected to totally hate it when it first when on the walls, but black is such a neutral color that anything goes with it. I love it. In fact, my husband's cousin loves to sleep in that room when he's in town. He's not a morning person. I have added silver, white and red accents to the bedroom. It makes for a modern comtemporary bedroom sutiable for both man and woman..

I think black is not a nice color for bedroom, for any room if you ask me. In my country, we also believe that black color gives out negative energy and we don't use black color when it comes to functions. We don't wear a black color dress to any function like engagement or wedding. We also avoid having black color pets at home.

Hi Saliaj,
Could you mind advise where are you from? I will mind my friend not to come to your contry if she prefered the black unique, lol...It is turely that seldom of us will wear the black dress to a ball, which will not match the atmosphere there. It will be weird to match that kind of colour to show up in the casual occasion, but it is quite true that black still take up the place in the very formal situation.

I actually did see a black room and liked it. The wall was painted black but the embellishment and furnitures are mostly contrast of that color. She had a zibra like ( stripped )bed while the lampshades are all in white. The beauty of it is that there are like star accents on the ceiling that makes it more classy and in style. Maybe I can change it as long as there new furnitures that comes with it to match the wall. LOL! Happy myLotting!

I will not paint the bedroom wall black as it is an indication of darkness. Also because the climate is hot and sunny over here if i paint the wall black it will attract a lot of heat and i cannot sleep. My wall right now is painted in a cream color and it is very pleasant to look. Now since we are going to get a new home there is no need to change the color.

Wow, I am very surprised that this discussion is still flowing out for such a long time and thanks for posting your comment here.
If you lived in the hot area, it is true that the black colour is easier to absorb the heat than other colour if the roof is not thick enough. And nowadays fewer people can accept the black as the wall accents. Cream color is pleasant and bright and easier to decorate in most of the house.
Have a nice day.

I do not think I would consider painting my room black. I visited a family friend whose rooms were painted black and he had a large fish tank in the floor of his living room. It was the creepiest thing I ever saw and I never went back to his house again.

Nobody warned me that the tank was in the floor! In fact most of the floor was a large tank with big fish and you had to walk around the edges just to get through the room. I think it was the element of surprise that got to me. The darkness of the room felt very very dark and scary. Plus this guy was a major criminal so that did not make me feel any better. For the most part I love nature and fishtanks and in any other setting it would have been nice but not that one!

Why on earth would anyone want to paint an entire room black? I can not imagine what that would do to one's emotional health. Not a good idea.

Painting one wall might be doable depending on the rest of the decor, but the entire room would just be too much.

Definitely not and never. It would make me feel like staying in a dark cave or in a deep well. I am sure I would be having nightmare in bedroom with such color. Not comfy at all. But a bit of black color as a complementary addition would be just great. Especially in retro black and white room design, sometimes they put black bed cover with white print, or black and white painting on the wall for center of interest purpose. I use ivory and pale lilac for my bedroom. Somehow it does make therapy effect to me. Yes, I change my wall color periodically, once a year usually. I'd prefer light and cheering color to boost my mood, and don't like dark color.

Hi Survajar,
Yes, pretty not paint the whole bedroom in black, as it will cause the sense of oppression. It will be great if it is a bit of black colour as a complementary addition to add the mystery.
I paint pink as my bedroom wall colour this year and irony as the hall wall colour. I like to change the wall colour periodically to have the freshy feeling yearly.
Have a nice day.

Haha lol. Sounds like your friend is a funny person! Well of course there is black paint available in the market. Architechture is so much more developed nowadays, you can see paints in the market with colours you've never seen before. No, I wouldn't paint my room black lol. It is eccentric (spelling?), but not for me. The room would be so dark and scary. Not to mention that I live in tropical country and dark colours attracts mosquitos lol.

Thanks for your response here, I advised her to counsel the Architechture prior to playing into reality.
It seems not a good idea if you live in a tropical area all around the year as it did attract the mosquitos to come to your home. And mosquitos are not welcome to visit

It seems that your friend's idea is unpractical.
I would preper the pink or warm color in my bedroom to keep me feel warm and cheer up. Facing a black wall maybe could make me become glommy,haha.....

Hi Esmechan,
It is really true that the cold colour will deliver a feeling of gloommy, but only if you have the other colour for matching, it would be fine. I always think that my friend has the artistic characteristics with such fatancy. Surely I will not use the black element for my bedroom as I did not think better how to match the colour until now.

I love the sentiment, but wouldn't want any black walls myself. Would make the room feel like it was closing in on me I think. But if it suits her, more power to her if she really wants to do it. My bedroom is plain old beige... I rent so have no choice in the matter. I prefer greens, blues and grays and would probably have a combination of those if I owned my home! I do get bored easily with my home(s) so I might change it often as my moods changed over the years.....

It is true that our moods will change if we changed the conventional things in our life, changing the wall colour will a good choice, I supposed. With the lovely colour that we like around you, it will be great. Our office is painted in the combination of green, blues, and orange and when our client visited, they did feel the artist nature on that. Heheh...Happy mylotter.

If we painted the wall in black only as an accent, it would be dull. Colour will be able to take effect only if it matched with other colours. Just a little like wearing the clothes, simply wearing the black evening dress is plaint, if we wear a shining necklace, it would have different effects. Do you agree?

Hi there,
I would never paint my bedroom wall black, I think it horrible to enter a room that all wall are black, not to mention it's my bedroom, I afraid I might have nightmare every night after I paint my room black.
My bedroom wall are white, I would have them painted white every few years.
Is your friend really want to paint her room black? I dont think it's a good idea.
Good day!

Hi Elaine,
My friend just planned to do it. I think she hesitated to do it now, after all, there is quite a lot of concern there. If the atmosphere or the accessory can not match well, it is easily falling into the horrible feeling just like you image, and then it will take time to repaint it again if she did not like it.
Happy mylotting.

I don't think I would paint my wall completely black, but I think if she was to have just one wall in that color as an accent, and the rest completely off white and decorate with some abstract art, I think it would look very chic and modern. She would have to bypass the fluorescent stars/animals though...during the day that would look kinda weird. My bedroom wall right now is all white, because I rent an apartment and I have no desire to paint it back to white when I move out next year. I'm happy with it though...white walls are clean (assuming) and simple
