I usually have to wake up to go to the bathroom at least once a night on some occasions I can sleep through but most times do a variety of things when I wake up in the middle of the night or in the wee hours of the morning I may turn of the TV that I fell asleep watching ,go get some water,(stare at the ceiling or turn on the TV is what I do when I can't go back to sleep) One thing I don't do is eat thats not good to do especially if your going right back to bed but I know a lot of people who get up in the middle of the night and have a snack or even whole meals (like leftovers) If I did all that theres no way I would be able to go back to sleep. When I get up to go to the batheroom which is most nights I can usually go right back to sleep becauase I go straight back to bed I like to drink a lot of water and I know I shouldn't drink to much before bed but hey I get thirsty so I drink. LOL I don't mind for the most part but there are times when I would rather not have to get up especially when I'm really cofortable or if its chilly in the house and I'm nice and warm in bed. What are some of the things that you do if you wake up in the middle of the night?

I seldom sleep thru the night, and even more seldom able to get back to sleep when I do wake up. So, if going back to bed does not bring sleep, I will get up and get on the computer. I don't have a TV in my bedroom, I'm one of those who believe that they cause more disturbed sleep than rest. I might fix a drink (tea or Diet Dr Pepper, not booze) and then if I'm up long enough but there's a chance I might get some more sleep, I'll try again. The worst of it is that the cats know when I wake up and are prone to stomp on my back and make me need to go even if I didn't before...

Hi Elicbxn I wonder if the Dr. Pepper has anytbing to do with you not be able to go back to sleep from the caffiene or the tea (if its also caffiene) thats one thing I can't do if I can't sleep is get on the computer in the middle of the night or wee hours of the morning even if I'm off work the next day I really don't want to be out of the bed

I'd think so, but for the last 3 months, I've been cutting WAY back on the DDP and most of the tea has been low or no caffeine. but getting out of bed lets the cats resettle

I only sleep one time per day. That is at night. A long time ago, I used to go to bed at 2AM and get up at 8AM. But now I can't. Because now I'm go to work in the morning. So I'm very tired if I go to bed late. Yesterday I went to bed at 10PM or 10.30PM. In the morning and afternoon I went to work, in the evening I went to study. I'm too tired if everyday seem like yesterday. I don't have a habit that sleep at lunch. I think when I sleep at lunch, it'll be so tired that for me can to do anything

Hi pooh08, Is this discussion is about sleep at lunch friends, Oh A small nap after lunch is a very good thing as I know...! It keeps the rest of the day very fresh and you'll be active than normal... beware the nap should be 5 to 10 mins only, not more than that...! Happy mylotting...!

I haven't slept through the night for years now. I get up sometimes and do some type of housework. I get on the computer. I eat. I watch television. I read. I do a lot of things because I do not sleep well at night. I would just love to get a good night sleep. I believe that I would feel better throughout the day.

Hi Laurenrich Sorry to hear that have you tried excersising during the day or early evening it really helps with sleep, (it does for me at least :-) or do something else that might tire you out a bit before bed (maybe do those housechores before bed instead of waking up and doing them in the middle of the night) maybe a nice 40 minute power walk something to get the blood pumping.

I wake up just about every night. I have for years. I tried to figure out what the cause was, but couldn't so now I just deal with it. Most of the time I'm able to go back to sleep after awhile, but sometimes I can't. When I get up I usually read or watch tv. Like you I have the rule of no eating. There are times that I really want a snack, but I force myself not to eat.

Hi KMpierce I can relate to that! Sometimes I want to eat but I just go straight back to bed because I make a detour to the kitchen more than likely I am going to eat something be it leftovers or junk food and I don't want to get into the habit of that luckily the bathroom is right across the hall from my room so I won't be tempted. lol

Cherryd41, Like you I have always had trouble sleeping through the night. It's always just been one of those things, until recently! My eldest child has just started school full time, so no more wandering leisurly through the mornings, we need to be up, washed, dressed, fed and out of the door by 8am, not an easy task after a disturbed nights sleep. I did some reaserch on the internet, and found that like you, I was doing htis to myself! Drinking coffee in the evenings, eating too late, worse eating when I woke up, Watching T.V in bed.... the list is endless, it seemed I was doing everything wrong! I started a new way last week. It was really simple. If I want a coffee after my evening meal, I now have decaff, I don't eat after 7pm, I have removed the T.V from my bedroom, now I read for 30mins instead, I have put a few drops of Lavender essential oil on my pillow, and guess what?... I've slept through the night every night for the last 5 days! No waking up for the toilet, no restless tossing and turning, I fall asleep easily and when I wake up in the morning I actually feel like I've benefitted from the sleep! A whole new me in the mornings! It's so simple and so effective, I seriously recomend that everyone tries these simple techniques, they worked for me.

Hi Rheascott Welcome to MYLOT:-) I can turn of the TV I don't have to have it on in fact my husband and I have our nights a couple nights a week where there is no TV ....period LOL I keep the TV in my room because that is where I do my aerobic tapes instead of going to the gym I do my excerise at home with videos. I love essential oils (although not a fan of Lavender I really love Vannilla I only drink decaff coffee as well but I only drink coffee on the weekends and thats only 1 or 2 cups. I don't really like reading to much I used to read lots of novels from Steven King ,,Dean Koontz ,,,James Patterson ect.. but I since I have been doing online surveys and focus groups as well as participating in Online Forum Communities such as MYLOT I really don't want to read much at all I like to give my eyes a rest lol But I can still try what your doing and see if it works for me

I go to bed pretty late most nights, but before I finally drift off, I tend to have to get up several times, either to use the bathroom or stretch, or something. There are some nights when I just cannot get comfortable and end up tossing and turning and getting up to walk around. Thankfully, though, most nights, once I do finally lie down to go to sleep, I do sleep through the night.

Hi Lynnemg Sounds like your kinda restless on from time to time..I hate it when I toss and turn in bed and fully awake insomnia is not something I enjoy at all lol.. I found that most of us have one thing in common in response to this topic and that is that we all get up to go to the bathroom. So lets blame it on the bladder

I can't say that I've ever woken up for longer than to just go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. I never have any trouble sleeping, I just stay up way too late in the first place and I'm too tired to waste any time sleeping! I really need a lot of sleep but I have trouble getting it. I never eat or watch TV. Periodically, I'll get on the computer for 5 minutes or so, but I never spend much time there either because it wakes me up too much. I just try to get right back to sleep as soon as possible.

Hi Cbakin20 I understand that you say you stay up way to late and that you need a lot of sleep and have trouble getting it ....what I don't understand is how you can be too tired to waste any time sleeping? Thats kind of hard for me to understand Doesn't fatigue or being tired usually lead to falling asleep if you go to bed? I know it does for me

When I wake up at night it is to use the bathroom. Most of the time I will go back to bed and just goes back to sleep. If I went to bed early I might have a hard time to get back to sleep so I will turn the TV on andset timer for about 30 minutes and usually it will put me back to sleep because there is not much on at 3or4 am.

Hi Happy You got that right not much on except for a lot of infomericals, and reruns you would think with cable now a days there would be more on to watch but they just show a lot of the same stuff over and over again actually I'm glad I have video on demand with my cable service I can at least see episodes of shows that I like but didn't get a chance to look at ,,,but then again at that time of the morning I really don't want to watch TV anyway

I usually sleep through the night, but as with all things there are always some exceptions to the rule. When I wake up during the night it is always because I have to go to the bathroom. I will typically get out of the bed and go to the bathroom and then go straight back to bed and go back to sleep. Sometimes I will also get a drink before I go back to sleep. However, when I do wake up during the night, I don't stay out of bed for more than a minute or two.

Hiya cherry, I donĀ“t usually have much trouble going to sleep at night. I did have when my Sons were much smaller one in particular would wake me up a few times right up to the time he was six or seven. Even so I cherish my sleep and cannot be without sleeping my eight hours if I can. I will get up very early if I have to but otherwise I can sleep through most things have had good practice. (grin).

Hi Cherryd41, Well I'm a mum to a small boy of 8 months old so I very rarely get to sleep all night! Sometimes he will go through until about 5:30am but usuall he wakes up arund 2am for some milk ( he is getting fed during the day!) Just recently we transferred him to a cot & for a few weeks he would wake up approximately every hours & scream for upto an hour!! -He has started to settle down a bit now (Hopefully!) & yesterday he actually slept until 8:15am - he woke at 5 this morning.

If I am physically tired I do not get up in the middle of the night as I get sound sleep. If I am mentally disturbed before going to bed I generally get up more than once perhaps. Then the worries forgotten in the sleep raise up again in the mind.I too do not eat anything at that time. May be I take a cup of water and resume sleeping.Sometimes I get up again depending upon the seriousness of thoughts. I switch on TV and see a movie at that time only to relax.Yes seeing Humorous movies gives relief and I feel sleepy again and go to bed. One thing I have observed is that in a new place I do not get sound sleep but my wife sleeps well in a strange place or a hotel. She is a blessed lady and she gets up fresh. I am not that lucky.Seep without disturbance is really good for health and next day you are fresh. I too wish to sleep without getting up in the middle of the night in any place and even when I am under stress.

No, I don't usually sleep through the night either. In fact I often have trouble sleeping so I get up and read, watch TV, or go on the computer. Sometimes a combination of all of those things. I would like to sleep all through the night but it usually only happens if I am sick or something.

Fortunately for me I do sleep pretty much through the night on most nights. There is sometimes the odd night here and there where I might wake up a few hours earlier than I need to and then I can't go back to sleep. When I do need to wake up it is usually to go to the loo, but in order to avoid that I always go before I get into bed. I actually get annoyed with myself if I need a visit to the toilet in the middle of the night because I don't like leaving my cosy bed!

I can't sleep throught he night either! Soetimes I just wake roll over and try to go back to sleep! If that doesn't work I get up and watch tv! Most night I get up and eat! Instead of left over I eat candy bars and ice cream! Not a good thing to do! It is a real bad habit! Other times I'll have to get up to go to the bathroom. Usually I only have to do it once! Anyway you not the only one with that problem!

Hi Cherryd41, I think I should not be here in this section. Because I never get up in the night...! Very rarely I use to wake up, only when my cousin are some one is disturbing me by putting their legs on me when already the place is warm...! I use to go out of the room and look at the sky for moon or stars, Go to the bathroom, have some water and I'll get myself in a comfortable place and I'll go to sleep...!

Sometimes I have a problem sleeping at night too so what I do is read a book: the best way to make you bored and sleepy lol or watch TV until you cannot watch anymore or simply surf the net. The computer makes your eyes drowsy and all. :)

I never sleep through the night. I haven't slept well in years. I usually toss and turn, play with my dog, or read. Sometimes I'll get on the computer, because you can always find someone awake :) I might get a glass of water and watch some tv, but that's when it's really bad.
