gadgets to steal and do their crimes like we see in some movies. There are movies like Mission impossible. and we know that criminals are not equipped with those high end gadgets and i don't think that they do exists yet. but if they do become equipped and became as good as the guy in Mission impossible. Do you think that the authorities can still handle these kind of criminals. Do you think movies contribute to the increase crime rate like stealing and bank robberies. What are your thoughts about it?

Even a cell phone today, is a "high-end" gaget. Criminals can do MANY illegal things with IT alrady. ...and that's only 1 gaget that's reasonable inexpensive to acquire... Not only that, but it doesn't take a lot of brains to work one. cd

but i wonder if criminals will one day be using such high end gadgets as we know how fast technology develop. maybe in the near future every one will live a life dependent so much in technology and even poor people will have much access to technology and even criminals.

but most people don't consider mobile a high end gadget not unless it has lots of features. if it is just basic call and text then it is a jurassic gadget now. but what i wondering is gadgets we only see in movies yet. if they will be one day be a reality. and that will be scary actually. like say a flying motor bike and etc.

Crimes began long before there was television. It just got worse with media reports and new action-packed violent movies. As criminals get smarter, so should our enforcement officers who must always be one step ahead (which is not always the case). I guess we need those movie producers to be Advisers to the police as they are really creative people by showing new and bold ways of committing crime - ways which current and future generations would follow.

yes, i hope to see a society where the enforcement officers will always be step ahead. like the ones i see in some movies. where even before they do their plan. while it is still in conception in their mind that they will be apprehended already after having those thoughts of committing a crime. i forgot what movie that was with Tom Cruise on it.

i just hope it stays only in movie. it is not good to live in reality where there is pre crime unit. ha ha. but we can't tell what will happen in the future. some things we only see in movie decades ago had happened already in some years ago.

Hi hotsummer, the movie's called Minority Report, and he works in the Pre-Crime Unit where they stop crimes before they happen. An interesting concept, but unlikely to hit reality but i like to cool gadgets though which could one day be realised.

I don't think that you can blame movies on the way that criminals act. I think that criminals act the way they want to and they try to blame what ever they can so they can try and get a way with it.

i don't think that criminals can get away with what they did by just putting the blame to movies. whether they committed crime because of the influence of the movie or not, they will have to answer to the law if ever they are caught.

I think that the criminal mind will do criminal acts whether they watch movies or not. Major crimes were committed way before TV or movies. However, I think that some movies can and do have an impact on some teenagers. I honestly believe that some teens act out some things they see in movies because these acts seem glamorized and/or glorified in the movies, even though they are despicable acts in real life. I hate to see new movies coming out with revenge or criminal acts as their main theme, especially when these acts are glorified in any way. Movies about anarchy, revenge, hate groups or just mentally unbalanced people are so often viewed by some as something they'd love to do in real life. I think that, mainly, I'm referring to those movies that we hear about some teenager watching over and over again just prior to going out and shooting a lot of people in their schools or murdering their parents/authority figures. There does seem to be more and more of that going on these days. I liked the "good old days" when movies were cute or had moral values as their theme. I'm afraid those days are gone, though, and it hurts me badly. The world seems to be going to hell in a hand basket and the movie industry is doing very little to change that for the better.

If the criminals have the technology, chances are the cops also have access to something. That's not to say that crooks aren't ahead of the game. They have to be or be caught. But, it's not like the criminals are somewhere creating their tech to the complete ignorance of the police. So, if they did have that fancy stuff, the cops would probably have something to combat it. As for whether movies increase criminal behavior, I don't believe so. People make their own choices. People might get ideas from movies, but they choose to commit the crime. We have to hold people accountable for their own choices and not blame external forces. If they are susceptible enough to use a movie as an excuse, they'll find another one. Something they read, something they saw, something someone said, they'll find a reason to do what they do.

you made a valid point there. if the criminals have the advanced technologies, of course the cops or the authorities will sure have the same and hopefully far advanced than what the criminals are using. cause if it will be pathetic for authorities if the criminals have better weapons than them. it will be such a shame for us all and it will be scary and i will not feel safe any more if they have more knowledge and equipments on their possession.

Could be... Movies like Ocean's Eleven may spark some ideas for professional thieves..... Some movie writers are sooooooo brilliant to come up with amazing films that poeople would enjoy to watch.. unfortunately...criminals do enjoy it too!

i have not seen Ocean 11 yet. but i have heard it was a good movie. anyways, yes the writers of the stories in movies are so brilliant. and sometimes they can give an idea to a perfect crime . their ideas are some things i know that were not done yet by any criminals and it makes me wonder if they will be followed by some criminals.

Yes...movies can create fascination in the minds of the criminals then it will fuel their desire to initiate the crime just by following what's on the movie. It is really dangerous if this criminals will be much more high-tech savvy and that would be dangerous to caught them. So movies are not good sometimes if it is full of violence and crimes.

I'm sure that movies play a big part in giving criminals ideas for their crimes, it's a shame but I'm pretty sure this takes place. I'm going to try and attempt to place myself in the mind of a criminal! He/she sees something in a movie and thinks 'I'd like to try that, that looks really exciting!' I guess this will only apply to those people that really have their wires crossed in their mind! I hope that they never ban movies as a result of this though, that would truly be a disaster! Andrew

yeah i guess movies does feed the mind of criminals and eventually what they see will start a seed in them that will grow in them, and when it is full grown they will be begin reap it, they will begin to act on what they have fed their mind with. we can see this more on children. they may get the idea of stealing on movies, i don't mean to all children generally but for some children who have not proper guidance or who don't have parents or family, they can get ideas from this kind of movies and they will start to learn how to do these kind of things. it is a sad fact here in my country even young children know how to steal or were even taught how to steal by adults just to earn money for their family.

People are not born criminals but they become one by either the influence of the wrong doers, by society, by peer groups, by families, or simply by media, so there are a lot of reasons why they becomes criminals too and that is why there are psychotherapy to help these people if ever they are in this situation and are willing to overcome that.

yes no one is born criminals. situations in life forced people to do it but still we don't make excuse for their wrong acts. and i guess they learn it to do it by influence of people or things they see from media. but i am not so sure if they do imitate what they see in movies in a way.

in a way, they do get their ideas from movies. they may not have the most modern or high-end gadgets, but they always get ideas from them. if they are really bent on that idea, they will really find ways to acquire gadgets and if this is not feasible, might have to improvise things. movies, in a way, may have taught some criminals in getting away from crime scenes and devise a way to escape. well, maybe... criminals have criminal minds and they always find a way to commit wrongdoings.

yes a crime will start from an idea. and so a movie may feed this thought into something more than just a thought.

most of the clips from movies are one or some day which occurred in some lives.there is good and bad to take from movies and they will be successful in life if they take good and surely fail one or the other day if they grasp the bad from it.

yeah i think that movies can offer great help too if they will only take the examples in the movies as lesson than something they would imitate. as they mostly portray on movies that being a criminal is a very hard life and usually puts a person in a lot of danger.

yes i think in a way . though they may not able to get some tips on how to do it actually but it gives them the idea to do crimes or start a crime and may be the start of that plan
