I have been invaded by piles of clothes today!!!! Holy Cow!! I had this crazy idea this morning, and dont get me wrong...it needs to be done.. but wow, what a project!!
Ok, so I started going through my kids clothes of what fits them, what they grew out of, whats for school...and of course whats for play. Now I have piles everywhere!!
It always amazes me how fast my son grows out of his clothes... and even though he gets tons of clothes for his bday (in june) and christmas (in december)--which works out because it covers both major seasons -- how many clothes I have for him, and how fast that we go through them.
So have you done this recently?? How often do you do this a year? Do you sell the clothes at a yard sale, pass them down through the family, or give them to a charity??

thanks for the response and have a great day!

first i like to say that i like cloths, and i like shopping, i do buy some clothes every shopping, so there is no window shopping to me. and sometimes i would regret when i come back after shopping. some of them i do not really like them. i do not have sisters, nor children, so how to deal with these old clothes? i would give them to a charity. it is a good habit i think.

I think that is a great thing that you give them to a charity... that would be the best thing to do since they could use the clothes and someone will get the chance to get new clothes like that a discount!!
I use to be that way, but now I have kids and a budget!! so I have to becareful what I buy now!!
thanks for the response and have a great day!

I do that from time to time... and the latest was last month... although they were not clothes... but my daughter's shoes... the is like a closet full of shoes and sandals that doesn't fit her anymore... and instead of throwing them away... i decided to give them to my boss' maid and she will just send them to the province to be used by her young niece... and i am sure she will love them...

I try to go through my kids' clothes at least twice a year. It is such a tedious task. If I don't have the time to have a yard sale at that particualr time, I just take the clothes anf donate them to a charity. This way, someone else can get use of them.

I did have a yard sale this year, and nothing went here at mine... and I put them in my aunts garage/sub sale and did better --I am thinking of putting them in there next year and see what happens...after that I am giving them to a charity because there are so many that I have.
thanks for the response and have a great day!

I know how frustrated you must have gotten when you were sorting your children clothes. Just last month I was going through my grandchild clothes for the new school year. We had just purchased her some new clothing for school and we did not have room enough to place her new clothing. I had to go through each drawer and the closet and sort out what she could wear and what she could not wear. What was to old. What to keep and what to give away. She has some younger cousins that we give some items to. We also give many of her clothing to charity. Sometimes I do not let her see me sort her clothes because she wants to keep most of them eventhough she can not wear them anymore. I usually do this twice a year and it is a job.

It is a job!!! I am pretty much done with it myself, and what a relief!! I have the last load of laundry going now..and I will be very happy to have that laundry done for the weekend as well!!
oh no, she wants to keep everything.. I am glad I dont have to deal with that yet... I am not sure how my daughter will be.
thanks for the response and hav a great day!

I just did this yesterday for my son and last week for my daughter. I usually do this right around when my kids are about to, or have received a large amount of clothes...I too have the benefit of having birthdays and Christmas around the major seasons. I love that!
It always amazes me how fast both of my children grow as well.
We always donate their clothes to a local charity. Their clothes are always kept in fairly decent shape so others can get some use out of them. I tried a garage sale last year, but it's just too much work, in my opinion it's just not worth it, plus it feels better to give!

It was alot of work, but I managed to get through the clothes and now I am done until Christmas...

I don't have children but even as an adult, I have to go through my clothes from time to time! I actually went through them recently - back in the summer before we moved. I figured there was no reason taking clothes with us that either don't fit or are worn out. So I took a lot of clothes to good will and some that were newer and barely worn I sold on www.craigslist.com .
I typically clean out my clothes twice a year. Usually before I get my clothes out for the new season!

Sounds like me. I have 3 girls ages 5, 3 and 1 so I have tons of passed down clothes I basically save everything. They have play school, party clothes, school clothes and yes I have just made the change from summer to winter and oh my the chore. I give everyone credit who has this chore! Its not my favorite but I save a ton on clothes that way!

thanks for the response and have a great day!

While the kids are in the phase where they are growing like weeds, you need to do this purging process at least every 3 or 4 months to keep it under control.
Selling the clothes at yard sales or consignment shops can really help with the cost of the new clothes you may need to purchase. I also like to donate to those less fortunate who are stuggling so badly in this lousy economy. As long as you are reusing or recycling anything still wearable, whatever you choose to do with them is fine.
Donating gently used backpacks and school supplies is also a great way to give back to the community. Sometimes service clubs sell these items at a low cost as a way to fund raise for their group. The buyer picks up a bargain, and the seller raises funds to put back toward the community. That is a truly win-win situation.

I think that is great when people can donate those type of supplies... I got all the supplies on the list that the school required and so far nothing has been used at the school!!
yeah, 3-4 months is a good time because the kids do grow so fast and have spurts throughout the year... I am glad I finally got through the kids clothes yesterday, what a relief!! now I am done until after christmas!!
thanks for the response and have a great day!
