I Can't Believe They Did This to Her.......

This is very disturbing to me. My cousin's mother passed away last week from a very long battle with cancer. The funeral was Wednesday. My cousin went back to work on Monday. While in work she was told that she no longer has a job. They laid her off. Why would someone do this to a person right after they had to bury their loved one? Couldn't they have waited a few weeks? Now is the time that my cousin really needs to work to help take her mind off things. I just can't believe they did this to her not to mention they even went to the funeral.

That is certainly cruel and heartless! They could even have given her a few weeks notice, as I'm sure she would if she were changing jobs. Businesses are desperate these days and human kindness costs money so there's very little of it.

No it doesn't seem fair! So many of the business owners today have NO heart when it comes to layoffs and loss of jobs. Large companies are only concerned about the bottom line. It seems like the greed is still there with some companies particularly with large corporations. Small businesses and companies seem to have a lot more personal contact with their employees. I feel bad for your cousin.

Oh no Shar..that's terrible. I think that a lot of companies are heartless. Sounds like your cousin was working for one of them. It is a shame. I know it's a hard time and the last thing she needed was to lose her job. Give her my best wishes.

I am so sorry for your cousin. Were they downsizing? Economy issues. Some companies don't care about the workers as long as they save money. I agree that she needs to work. My father passed away a year and a half ago. Work was the only thing that kept my mind off of it.
I wish your cousin well. I have her in my thoughts and prayers.

I'm sorry to hear that, the company is too cruel,I think every employer may understand their employees when they met so sad... If they can not understand your cousin even she tell out the truth.it is unnecessary for your cousin to be sad for such a bad company.there is no need.adjust her mind and change another one.

I think and agree that that was unfair for the employer to do! Instead of helping her out in her hour of grief, the employer has given her an additional heartache! Would you believe that there are people like that? Money is their god and money is the only thing theiy care about.

My condolences to your family. my mother is also ill with cancer and when she was diagnosed with it in December of 2007 rather than losing my job, I quit. A lot employers no longer see workers as people, but rather as numbers. Numbers that if absent or not performing have to be replaced. Its sad and unbelievable but in today's job world everyone is replaceable, like parts of a machine. I do hope that your cousin will get a job soon.

That is so sad... I guess the company just thinks that business is business and that they should not consider the personal life of the employees. I think your cousin would be better off working somewhere else instead of working in a company that does not value their people. I do hope that her getting laid off is not connected to her not being able to work for a few days because that would totally be inconsiderate of them.

I had a friend who got fired the day before her birthday. And my former employer laid off a boatload of people before year end so that they wouldn't have to pay them matching funds on their 401k accounts. Companies don't care about this stuff. It's all about dollars and cents. But that's really sad...

The bean counters, as my husband calls them, have no heart. Dollars and cents is all they consider, when it comes to that we are all nothing but numbers. I am so sorry this happened but maybe good will come out of it. She now has a chance to find a totally new life if she can look at it that way. Help her if you can. Blessings

Hi Shar19,
That is a real shame what´s happened there. It´s becoming widespread this sort of thing people losing their Jobs for no apparent reason.
Is there no one she can appeal to a Work Tribune or something like that the Syndicates? Surely they cannot sack her just like that. They have to have a reason. She should at least be compensated if not.
Sorry to hear about her Mother too what a terrible thing to go through. Hope she finds another employment soon.

maybe its such company she is working with is in cross cutting and needs to pull out employees and just made her leave as an excuse. Nevertheless, they are being unfair and its very inappropriate for them to do such things to their employees..

I really really feel bad for the boss who probably had to do this to her knowing what was happening. I know a lot of bosses (who arent CEO's) Are fighting and trying their hardest to keep the jobs for their workers. Could you imagine having to lay off people you work close with and become friends with? I couldnt imagine that would just be heart breaking. I'm sooooo sorry for your and her loss. I hope you both feel better soon.

I'm sorry to hear (read) about this but I know how she feeels to a certain extent.
My husband was laid off without any notice. Not just him. It was around 20 men.
We took our life in a new direction so he won't ever have to break his back to make another man wealthy. Now he works for himself and I am buying my boss' company from him so that he can retire.
Maybe she can take this lay off and turn it into something that she loves to do. I hope so. Good luck to you!

This is an unfair treatment your cousin gets from her employer. Since she did not absent herself for no good reasons, she can take up the case with the labour department and let them deal with the employer accordingly. Employers can just terminate their employees without valid reasons.

That is such a heartless thing for them to do to her! I can only imagine how upset she is right now.
Being the optimistic person I am though, I have to gove these words of encouragement, no matter how silly they may seem. One, everything happens for a reason and where one door closes, another undoubtedly will open. I am sure that there will be something a lot better come her way in the very near future, even though right now, the light at the end of the tunnel, so to speak is definately hard to see.
It really makes a person wonder though how someone can appear to be so supportive and then end up being so very heartless.
