I know that starting a discussion and replying to a discussion are both essential to mylot and to our earnings. but some people are focused on giving our replies and have started just a few discussion. while some of the members here are fond of starting discussion, sometimes, I will receive notification on friends' discussion and I would see about 10 or more started by one friend only. I could not possibly do that in a day.
Mylotters, Do you usually start a new discussion or you are more fond of giving replies to the existing discussion? I know there are some people who doesn't ran out of ideas for them to start a good discussion and making their discussion on today's top is also great. some people just enjoying giving responses and some can start a few discussions only. Others can have a discussion with very few responses.
So, if you are a discussion starter, do you search first the site for a similar post or you just don't search because you think your ideas are really unique and chances are there are no similar topics. And where do you get all your ideas to start a discussion that would fall on today's top. what do you feel, when after a few days your discussion is still unanswered?
For discussion responder, do you wait for someone else to post first in a new discussion, or you can just be the first responder to a new discussion. do you read all the replies before replying, or just read the first post, then go on with your reply. do you pattern your reply to the previous response or you don't mind at all that sometime your response would be very different from the others? How do you feel when you are chosen as the best response?
let us not limit your answer to the posted question above. just share your inputs on being the starter or the responder.

I love to respond to my friends discussions the most. I have not started any of my own for a very long time now. I just do not like to keep up with all of the replies to them. I feel bad for not being able to. I did get some best responses also. That makes me feel like I really helped them out.

It depends on my mood. If I am in the mood to give responses then I do that. When I get good ideas to start a discussion then I start it. I make an effort to give a good response and hope to get the best response. Some people give out best response within 5 hours of starting a discussion.

Hello jlamela,
challenging would be a right word for starting a new discussion. It would be a challenge to start a good discussion than can get a lot of responses.
thank you for sharing your thoughts.

I am more of a responder than starter. I , unfortunately, run out of topics to discuss. Whenever I find something interesting that I watched on TV or have experienced something interesting, I make it as a topic of my discussion.

Hello jules,
me too ran out topics most of the time so I would just settle to be a responder.

Hi,
I am more of a responder than a starter. It doesn't matter if I am not the first to respond to a discussion, but when there about more than 50 responses already I tend hesitate dropping a post as I'm not sure if the starter will still be able to read it. I have very few started discussions because I find it hard to come up with topics and I worry if there will be responses at all. For me it's definitely easier to respond than to start a discussion coz when you respond your task ends there whereas when you start you still have to worry commenting to the responses and sometimes it's hard to come up with comments that make sense specially if all the answers are almost the same. Also, the number of posts increase with the responses you make, while it doesn't change when you comment on your own discussions.

hello, its nice that you noticed the number of posts. yeah I wonder some time why our numbers don't increase when we start a discussion. anyway, I agree with you its easier to respond in any discussion. thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Hi red-amethyst,
I am not starting many discussions because I believe that I should do justice to my responders and comment them back. I have some discussion still to comment back so I am not thinking to start a new one. I have limited time to do mylot so my thinking is to finish those pending then start a new one.
Starting a discussion can earn more if we can spend time and add our inputs to through comments. But just starting a discussion and leaving the same won’t earn anything. Here many are complaining that people are coming and starting many topics then not showing the courtesy to acknowledge the same. That is also true. If they are aiming to earn more then they can earn from one discussion, if she/she do justice to her/his responders. I think many are not aware this fact especially the new comers.
Regarding the ideas of starting a new discussion, I am always observing the program in TV, news in newspapers, conversation between people etc and think that can I make the same into a discussion. I never search for a topic in mylot because if I decided to start one topic I will start it because it will be my own idea/efforts. I won’t bother if there is similar topics.

Hello Sreekala,
with my long stay here, I myself didn't know that we need to comment to our responder in the discussions that one start. But now, upon starting this discussion I learned about that already.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. take care

hi red I like to make my response before reading anyone elses
responses so I use my own brains to say what I f eel,and not just'parrot everyone else. I use other discussions to trigger'my own ideas, not copying at all, but triggering a side issue nobody else'has ever brought up. I do do some discussions and t ry to comment on all my discussions but get behind. I do try though.I love to get best
responses too.

I start some discussions but I've always like responding more. I hit this site off and on throughout the day and I don't really have the time to think about ideas for discussions. When I do start one I do check for similar discussions though. As far as responding goes, it doesn't matter to me whether I'm the first person to respond or the 50th. I do read many of the other responses before responding to discussions but, if there are many, I don't read all of them.

thank you for your response on this thread. Like you, I have a hard time thinking of a great topic that's why sometimes I wonder where those discussion starter get their ideas.

I am not a good discussion starter. I prefer to respond and comment. But there is no such preference in me that i should respond after some one or be first one. Some times i will see some discussion which is quite old and i feel like respond to them. My only criteria of responding or commenting to a discussion is that i should a bit of knowledge of the discussion. Because i don't want to be a wrong person in a wrong place.
But i prioritize my responding discussion everyday. First i respond to discussion which my friends started. That is discussion started from friend from my friend list. Because they are the first one who respond to my discussion then. I will check my discussions for new responses and then i will comment to those responses. After that i will have a glance at todays top discussion. I may or maynot respond there. Finaly i will check for my responded discussion expecting discussion starter might have been commented my response. So by doing so i will spend atleats 2 hours in mylot.
Just like i am hoping you will comment on my response. Ohh i have written so much. It will become a novel then. Have a nice day.
Regards,
JnK

Haa Its ok. I feel like if some one doesn't respond or no comments for response the discussion wont be complete. Tell me whats the point to have discussion if there is positive or negative responses. After all meaning of discussion is all about sharing thoughts from both sides. I hope you got my point here. Anyways thanks for comenting to my response.
Have a nice day ahead,
JnK

hello Gnoyvanndaroe,
This is odd, I was just answering another discussion from another place and if I am not mistaken, you two have the same username, maybe that person is you also,
anyway, looking for a great idea for a discussion is hard sometime. Just explore the site first, give your responses and in time you will have your own ideas to start.
Good luck and thanks for the response.

Hi red_amethust,
I didn't started a lot of discussion because I don't know where to started it. And for the record, I didn't started any discussion last month (September). Lately I only interested to started a discussions about football (soccer).
Usually I only read a few responses before giving mine. It is time consuming to read all the responses especially when the discussion receive a few pages responses. That why I prefer to be first. It is much easier. But sometimes, when I respond to a discussion, I would be a second or third responder (even when I want to respond to that discussions, there is no response) due to my slow internet connection and my slow typing skills.
Of course I would be happy I my response chosen as a best response. That mean I done a good job.

Hello akuler,
wow, no discussion in a month, you do track your discussions easily.
You be the first or last to respond, it doesn't matter as long as you can share your opinion in whatever discussion you respond to.
Have fun mylotting!

Hello LdeL,
I agree with you, one discussion a day would be good, it's hard to keep up in giving comment when you have too many discussions. but I guess some are good at that.
thank you for your response

Me, I'm usually browsing for topics to respond to. I post discussions whenever I got an idea and I think I need the opinion of others about it. When responding to discussions I usually read the comments first so as to credit and agree with others who commented before me. I'm trying to respond and comment a lot but I can only do ten to fifteen responses a day because I'm pretty busy nowadays.

hello hexeduser,
ten to fifteen responses a day is not that bad. you can earn about $0.1 - $0.3 from that. But maybe sometime you can increase so you can get a monthly payout. Good luck.

Hi red. I'm more of a responder than a discussion starter myself. It doesn't matter to me if anyone responded to it already or not. So long as the discussions catches my eye, that's good enough for me! LOL And no, I never read the responses first. I know that is against the guidelines, but I personally think this guideline is stupid. I like to be able to say what I want to say without being influenced by what others had put. Not to mention I'd end up getting side tracked and forgetting what I had wanted to say. And if there are a lot of responses to go through it can be quite time consuming as well. If I was to read all the responses first, I'd never have time to post any of my own.
When it comes to starting discussions, there was a time that I would do a search to make sure there weren't any that were similar. But with so many people on here I've noticed that similar discussions are bound to happen anyway, no matter how careful we are. So now whenever I post a new discussion I don't bother to look and just hope for the best. I do try my best to make the discussions that I start unique though. Oh, and I don't start too many. I couldn't imagine starting 10 or more a day! I'd never be able to keep track of them all!
Happy mylotting!

Hi sacmom,
I think you are a great discussion starter! I remember responding to some of your discussions few months ago. You are a good responder as well and thank you that my discussions catches your eyes.
You are actually right, sometimes, reading some one else responds tend to bring your original thoughts away.
thanks for the response

Hi!I've been so busy that I could hardly start a discussion these days or even respond actively. I used to be very active here but my regular job has been constraining me. At any rate most of the time I only respond to discussions whenever I manage to log in but if ever there is really one good idea that came into my mind I'd post it right way. Sad thing is that good ideas are somewhat hard to find these day especially with busy mind like mine. Well I started one today anyway because I need to get some help with my new denture and I hope I could get help from concerned folks around. Have a nice day!

Oh I usually respond to discusssions cause I cant come up with an interesting discussion to begin with? And I don't want to post a discussion that might have the same topic already. I am like that.
Before hitting the submit button, I read and reread what my response is so Ii dont commit any mistakes. Though at times I've made a few because of hitting the wrong buttons hehe.
I even respond to old discussions as long as what I will input will be relevant.
Happy posting Red ! I know you're a topic starter and I always try to respond to some of yours !

hello ayen, yes I do start a topic once in a while, but I really don't consider myself as a discussion starter. it's really hard thinking of a good topic that would have plenty of response here. I always admire those people who have their discussions on the today's top section.
thank you for always responding to my discussion. see you around

I just do one response when I receive multiple discussions from one friend. That is unless I find something very interesting within those discussions. I have gotten to the point where I spend most of my time responding and only make one or two discussion per day. I feel I am somewhat burned out.

so you do one give response to one discussion per friend? That would be a nice routine here, basing on your number of posts, looks like you do a lot of responding to different discussions.

I'm new here so I'm still just trying to learn everything about MyLot so even though I started one discussion, I have mostly been responding. I've been exploring the site and I find so much good discourse here I find myself just reading a lot and responding if I have something to say that I feel may be of value. I'll probably start more discussions later on when I've been here longer. I think it's easier to formulate a response than come up with a new topic, generally speaking though.

hi millertime,
I think so too, that giving our a response is easier than thinking of a good topic because you will have to think from scratch, thinking of something new topic that would be hot in the site. unlike with giving a response, the idea is already there you will just give your reaction on the given topic.
thanks for the response
