How do you feel about teachers having tattoos? Should they be discriminated against during an interview? Should this be a deciding factor on whether or not they get the job? If it is okay, then at what grade level? Do you think that it's okay for high school teachers, but not elementary teachers? Give me your thoughts.

Many teachers at my school have tattoos some more visible than others. When the kids ask about them, it gives teachers an opportunity to tell the kids a little bit about themselves. You wouldn't think that this would be a problem until they reach up to grab something and a student has noticed. Not a big deal but a little embarrassing.

In all honesty, I do not like tatoos. I think when someone gets a tatoo they are disrespecting their own body, but that is not the question...Should teachers have tatoos? No. But what if they already have one, should they be discriminated against because they have one? No. So, when going for an interview, they should make sure they keep their tatoo covered with clothing. I know tatoos have no bearing on what a teacher knows or how a teacher can teach, but I do believe it says something about self respect. In my opinion, and it's just that...my opinion, others may have a different view, but if you are working with children, you should show them that you have respect for your own body, and that goes for older students as well. Teachers like Dr.'s and Nurses should walk the walk if they are going to talk the talk!

I think it's OK for teachers to have tattoos as long as those tattoos are not visible to the children during work hours and as long as the tattoos are not excessive, as in, in complete and total places that can be seen like the face, neck and arms. That kind of thing. I think teaching is a profession that requires a lot of professionalism and since teachers are supposed to be role models for children, they need to give off a certain air about themselves.

As long as tattooed teachers have ability to teach and gain enough qualification, I don't think it's a matter. They shouldn't be discriminated during an interview. I think it's not good for elementary teacher to have a tattoo on his/her body, elementary students mostly see teacher as their role model. But if it is high school teacher or even higher, I don't think it's problem. =)

as long as the tattoo isn't explicit and not really visible,I don't see why a teacher should be discriminated.if they are expressing themselves through body art, then go for it.a tattoo than can be covered up,like those tattoos on the upper arm,is not in any reason a distraction with a teacher's job.being a good teacher is someone who can groom the minds of the youth to be a good citizen.having a tattoo doesn't mean you can't be a good teacher.

In my view, teachers should realize their dual identities. As a person like others, they could choose their way of living without intervene. Since tatoos is not a violation of law and moral code, people including teachers have such right and should not be discriminated. But such right is restricted to personal life. When they teach students in the classroom, they play the other role - guide. For students, especially pupils, don't have independent and mature judgement, they're easily affected by their teachers. Teachers should not introduce their own way of living. Thus, they should not show their tattoos in the classroom.

Personally I also have a tattoo, but noticeable. For me it's okay for a teacher to have a tattoo, but not that you'll be like a rock star or something, being a teacher is also a model, since you will be the one who will shape their mind, specially the children. You'll lead by example.

Why not? Teachers are people to. If they are not graphic or nothing wrong with them I think there are some people who take offense to this than they maybe are too conservative. I think they are OK and I wouldn't have a problem with a teacher having one.
