I am lured by the Internet every time I open my laptop. I was supposed to be doing a programming assignment but I always find myself opening my account in Facebook or opening my blog.
What do you people do in order to stop surfing the Internet or do something more urgent and important than something of leisure like surfing the Internet? I am having a pretty hard time.

These are common human symptoms you are talking about. When faced with a difficult job, our minds tend to switch into escape mode and we distract ourselves subconsciously, but feel as though we are not in control of our actions. This can easily be remedied, it just takes a few conscious actions. First, you must focus on the assignment you've been given and estimate a rough duration which it will take to be finished. Now, envisage yourself having completed the assignment and surfing through your Facebook account or blog at ease, without the pressure of an unfinished job on your head. It will fuel you to complete your job quickly (of course, you must do it carefully to avoid reruns) and after that, you'll have the leisure to do whatever you wish. Concentration is the key. If you concentrate more upon your job, the less time it will take to be completed. Cheers.

Surfing the internet can be a serious distraction especially when you have to get work or studies done online. I am very easily distracted, so I literally had to discipliine myself. I complete at least one full assignment every morning before I check my email, or here, or anywhere else that is apt to catch my fancy. I have to do it that way, or all my computer time would be "fun" and I would never make a penny! I do the same thing after lunch, work/studies first, then time to play....

Even this is somewhat the same condition with me also. I didn't even went for my job because of internet. The best solution is to be addicted. Sit in front of it for some days continuously so that your addiction level will decrease a little. Do this only if you think you are too addicted to internet or else you will become more addicted than what you are now. Once your addiction level decreases, you can concentrate on your work as well as spend some time online.
If the above didn't work, then there are 3 main ways to reduce the addiction .
1) Cut down Time: This is not that easy as saying. However, try to minimize the time online.
2) Awareness: Think about what you are missing while you are on internet. Also realize the importance of what you miss.
3) Do the opposite: Try to change your schedule. If you have a habit of going online after coming to home from work, then take a shower, have a coffee then go online.
These steps might help you to lower your addiction.
Happy Lotting

I wish I could offer you some great advice crOssf41r13, but I am a total You Tube fanatic. It keeps me from doing anything productive while I am on-line. I can't resist checking out new videos. I have it on speed-dial! The only thing that keeps me from my favorite site, is if they are down for maintenance.

I think you need to change your perspective on internet. You need to change your view about internet. I view internet as a source of information about anything. So, I never get addicted to it. Even I am earning from it now but I ma not addicted to it since I am not viewing as an entertainment thing.
But of course, I am addicted to computer games. Every one must have some addictions, right?
