I know the river is not clean water and no I would not drink from the river knowing this. I would search and search for other means of water. If I could not find any other means of any source of water I would drink from the river. That would be my last resort. The thought of drinking river water is gross. It would be hard to force myself to drink such impure water. I would have to plug my nose while drinking. It's suppose take taste away when you do this. It would be a struggle for me to drink river water. I know that for a fact.

Hi tuckersheri, there was a television program, in which this gentleman went into the desert, and ran short of water. He walked in that heat, for hours, till he spotted some green plants, and though the river or any water was nowhere visible, he pulled that plant out, and squeezed the liquid contents from it, into his mouth, and though not many drops from it must have fallen, this man's thirst was satiated. So, I would look for that alternative first! And since, water source is quite close by, many plants would be around! Dont u think? BTW, the channel I am talking about it is Discovery, so such things did happen!

well if i was dying from dehydration and there are no other cleaner sources of water i would drink from the river. If the water is flowing i think it is a safe bet to drink it. Though the best solution to this problem would probably get a container, fill it with water, start a fire then boil the water. This would kill off all of the germs and thus make it almost as clean as water from the tap.

I would if I was stranded, and did not have a drink of water for hours. I would have to force myself to drink the water. Only the strong survive and I would not want to die so I would drink the water even if it is not clean.

Few people in the west know what real thirst is.
If you are really thirsty you will drink the water from a cars radiator; you will drink urine (your own or someone else's!) you will drink puddles.
I have drunk from rivers and streams many times and if the river is fast flowing then usually the water is ok.
The worst I've drunk is from a lake in Mocambique where, when you held a glass up to the light, you could see all the bugs swimming about! That was 40 years ago and I'm still living!! haha

I already prepare for this situation and yes I do will drink water from the river, sometimes river are natural and have pure clear water if it's near village, forest, or mountain and not near or inside the city. If the water not clean or has been contaminated you can use an water purifier and it will be very useful in the event of natural disasters.

hi tuckersheri yes I think in the case of being horribly'
thirsty I would take a chance because i would need the
water worse than worrying about contaminants in the water.'
just once would not really hurt me as my immune system would'
probably keep mybody safe.as far as drinking water some rivers'are probably purer than some water from some taps. it depends on the
city and the water purefication plants. we may be able to go for
'a long p eriod of time without food but not without water.

If the river is murky then I will try digging a spot near the river's bank. Most times there is a sort of spring water coming out of a hole near the river's bank. I have done it together with my companions when went hiking and we ran out of water.
If the river is not murky I will drink water at it's center where most probably it's not the dirtiest. This is also the trick while we went hiking. Instead of putting purifying tablets in the water I chose to drink from the river's water straight than smelling the chlorine laden water.

There are plenty of clean water rivers in India so I won't mind drinking from a river. Some are much pure than the water we get in the city. There are a few rivers which get polluted by the time it reaches the sea. So I would just check if the water is clear and does not smell. If the water is fine then I will drink it.

I would have to search for other means fo water also. I know that the river water would kill me anyway. I guess when you get desperate enough, you will drink just about anything though.

if i am extremely thirsty and have no other resource of clean water,to survive,i will drink a little river water, just make me alive.
if there is a fire and a pan, i will boil the river water to kill bacteria.

If i am in a extremely thirst state,do i have choice? If i choose not to drink i will eventually die for it,so i would definitely drink the river water to survive.Besides, you can boil the water to kill the bacteria in it so that the water is safe to be consume.
