Starting too many discussions...

September 20, 2009 9:34pm CST
Am I the only one who finds it extremely annoying when one person starts over 20 discussions but never bothers to comment on them at all? I have noticed this trend now for the past four weeks. Some people literally start over 20 topics in a day (half of them copied discussions) but they never seem to comment on these topics that they start. Worse off is when they have 20 discussions lined up in one group!! I was looking through today and I noticed one person dominated almost all the groups here with well rather boring discussions (excuse my French) and they never seem to participate in other people's discussion neither do they bother to comment on their own. Is it really worth it starting a million discussions at once? Do you get paid more for starting these discussions? I mean why would I post 50 discussions only to get one or two responses on just probably five of those discussions?

Starting a lot of discussions is a stage a lot of newbies go through, but the smarter ones learn fairly quickly. Not coming back to comment is, I think, a different issue, and shows an endemic lack of either intelligence or class. Those ones rarely learn. In the meantime we all have to put up with the boredom. Yes newbies can be forgiven but the ones I have seen are from people that are not newbies. They have 1,000 plus posts and 99% of their posts are copied and they never respond to others. Think they need some spanking from grandpa!

Nah, I'd rather put them up against a wall and shoot them. Lash

well all ic an say is that they really dont know how to mylot my friend. i dont do such many discussions in one time. i even make once every two weeks. because i want to make sure i commented to all my friends responses to my old discussions rather than making one. as what M told other users that they are benefited if their discussions got more responses and they commented on them back. that is how they are get paid. but making new (some copied discussions) dont really have that earnings except is it is already responded and commented back. and that is why i dont go for making new discussions because it would again end up not having many respondents at all. i am not good at making new discussions either. becaue sometimes its ot really that helpful and worth it. but i am still trying to find ways how to make a post worth reading and responding back. jhelai

True, I figured they either don't know that its a waste of time starting countless discussions or they are plain greedy which is worse than not knowing.

there are people like that and they never respond to responses either sometimes I don't mind but usually I refrain from responding to these people again unless I have nothing else interesting to respond to I don't start many discussions my self. It's not easy for me to. I used to write it down somewhere and spellcheck before I post it here. Sometimes the words just flow easily but most of the time they don't

I do find it a bit annoying, especially if they run along the same lines. It becomes harder to look for other discussions which may be more interesting, partly because they get buried under the avalanche. Most probably the person thought that it will bring in lots of money. Less than a week ago I read in a forum that the secret to earning a lot of money on myLot is to do more discussions, and less responding to other discussions. She, yes it is a she, gave 'proof' of her 6 cents per discussion feat. She is a newbie here. If it is true, imagine the situation where every active member writes at least 5 discussions, but not responding to any. Before this there were several members who did the same thing. They have become inactive, because they were not getting the expected number of responses, and the projected amount of earnings. The main problem was they never commented back to any response. A discussion means a to and fro exchange of ideas, viewpoints, and opinions. What the person did was not in this spirit.

Hi jellymonty, unless someone is on my friends list then I wouldn't really notice this, and if they are on the list then they are the sort of person who does respond. But I have noticed the trend for a couple to actually start about ten discussions at once in a block, which I find really annoying as ten alerts come in togther and also these ten discussions will also block the home page of friends started. Unless these discussions appeal to me to respond to then the person would have to be removed from the friends list. I noticed such a block yesterday and as I checked the subjects on mail to see if I was interested noticed that four of them were on exactly the same topic anyway which is overkill in the extreme. I agree that it is totally pointless in the way you describe.

The most annoying thing about these topics is that they are all totally boring and uninteresting! and a complete waste of space in my opinion. I am happy though that my lot does take into consideration all this when they are calculating earnings. But better still they should be a way of regulating how many topics one can start in a day

I don´t get annoyed, but I doubt that those people will earn much. I have found out that mylot is more interested in posts that will mean the beginning of a conversation than in posts that die where they began. One starts also knowing the people that will exchange ideas with you and leave out those that just want to make a copy-paste to post one more subject. As for me, I don´t post much more than 2 or 3 a day. I prefer to read interesting things that other people in other parts of the world have to say. Sometimes I answer those posts, sometimes I discover that what I wanted to say is already said so I just make a comment. Just today I went from Malaysia to Mexico; talked about earthquakes and how to prepare a chicken.. That´s what I love of this site. If other people seek other things, let them. I will not answer them. Take care!

I actually don't start a discussion very frequently. Probably once every two weeks. I prefer to respond and participate in other discussions as I'm not bright enough to start 20 odd topics at once... besides I haven't got the time to do so...

I know what you are talking about. I can think of one person in particular. I suppose these people really don't know how Mylot works and that it will do them no good to start all those discussions because you don't get paid unless you get some comments. Also it makes the reader realize very quickly that the person is not interested in what you have to say since they never comment on it. All they want is that you say somethingl, anything at all. So if this happens a few times people will stop responding to those who post endless questions but never comment on the responses. I have been here for a long time and it has been my experience that this type of person does not stay around for long.

I've seen too many of them and like you, I find them annoying as they exhibit blatant disregard of the myLot rules. I wonder if they even read the guidelines, or they just don't care? And I don't get it when some members start so many discussions at one time and leave all the responses unread, or "un-commented" on. I don't know what the purpose is, but we know they don't get much by just starting a discussion, they have to respond to earn more. It actually still puzzles me up to this time...sorry, now I've just added more questions to your unanswered qustions.

Hello Jelly monty, how are you doin? Is that user one of your friends-list? well, as for me I have a user in my list that posted more than 5 discussions, but it's alright because i get to choose the topics that i need to reply. if only few and the topic is not good either i can't respond to it since i can't relate..but i agree we should just post quality and not just quantity discussions

dont feel bad about it, people might not have idea about your post. besides you will not get paid if they will comment or not in your post as mylot will pay you base on your posting, your comments to other post and not if they comments to your post, aside from the task and referrals. normally people comments to the post that have idea with as they are here to have more comments and post than read a long story which in fact a waste of time only if they can go to another post and start creating a comments. even me. if i saw a very long post i dont bother to read them. i just go to another post and leave comments as im here to earn so i need to have more comments. if i post it doesnt bother me if theres someone who will comments to my post as lng as i share my idea. its really up to them

i don't think that you get paid for starting more discussions i think it will take your earnings down when no one will respond to your discussion and there will be many discussions without posted. i think the best way is that you should star around 3-4 good discussions in a day with a picture added and try to respond to the replies on your discussion, that is how you can earn more.

Yes i agree. Im new here, and i dont go crazy and make so many discussion. It doenst worth it. I prefer to discus what i found interesting and stick to that topic until that topic die. Maybe not just one topic, three at most, because it take time for people to response to my post. Anyway, did mylot had rules about making many discusion at once, becaue 20 topic seem more like a spam then a discusion. thanks

I know what you mean,I have seen it a few times. I don't get it. Heck sometimes I have two or three discussions in my head and more often than not I opt to just wait a day to post them, you know post one and then the others at a later date. Because of fear that they would get lost or that people would be annoyed with it. I try to respond to as many of my friends discussions that i possibly can,and I always response to responses from my discussions. I don't understand people that start a discussion, ask a question in it and seem to disappear. Maybe they are thinking more about the money then the friendships?

it's not good to start more and more dicussions, i thinks, in my lot, if your topics are less than 2 or 3 (i am not sure)response, and this topic will not count to your posts, that means it's a useless topic. of course, i also don't agree to start unmeaningful topic if you just want to add your posts, maybe you don't have enough time to focus on all the topic you opened.

Yeh, I noticed that too. And I noticed some people posting the same exact discussion in quite a few categories. I always let them know, lol! Is that what you're talking about? I've also commented on quite a few discussions and most of the time I really talk alot and give a full answer the best I can. Do I receive any response? Nope. I'd be happy with a one liner, haha. I try my best whenever I do start a discussion (which isn't often because I never know what to write about), but, when I do, I take the time to respond because I think it's the right thing to do.

Its good that you let them know.. and if they keep repeating that mistake even after you tell them then they really are kuku in the head

i've noticed that a lot lately, especially with what ladies like in a guy. i thought we weren't supossed to go and start a topic without looking to see if there was already one like it in that section. i don't post many topics cause i don't have anything interesting to talk about.

I don't believe that you earn more for starting many discussions that you then ignore without responding to those who were kind enough to post something. Mylot takes many things into consideration when paying members and I believe that this abuse of posting may actually hurt the ones who are doing it more than it helps.

I am just new to MyLot and dont have any idea about how it works especially in giving financial rewards to its users. Since MyLot gives reward for every discussion you make, its the reason why they make such a many discussion.
