Good questions, haha, but as English is the most popular language in the world, and American people can speak this in all of the world, so why they need to study second language? but if needed in their work or daily life, i think American guys also need to learn second language, just like I need to learn English for my second language, lol...

perhaps they don't need to. language is a tool for communication and English is the most popular language in the world. the Americans have had this tool so they do not need to learn other languages. some Americans can speak second or even third language but they learn it just for fun. not like none English-spoken people. learning English is a must for them.

hey andu_2603 Very god question. Really it is nice to ask American why they are not speaking in second languages. Friend in america second languages is not necessary as they are speaking in english and english is commonly used by as many as countries and it is their previlage. But for us Our national language is Hindi but India consist of 28 different states where different languages are being used. For that reason we know various languages. Credit goes to all Indians.

lol your right in this one. and some of them dont even make a consideration to those none native english speaking thinking that they are the best. well, of course they are the best and good in english speaking as its their language.
i had english friend before, and he laugh on us every time we speak english due to wrong pronunciation and some also says that they are more smart. well, as for me, i guess i am more than smart coz i can speak perfectly with my own language and i am good in english too. if they try to learn my language and they will speak it only then they will realize that its not that easy. so i hope they will stop arguing that they are more better, its just so happened that english is widely use language and that we need to use it for better communication.
they must be thankful, as theres no need for them to learn our language just to be understandable coz we already know their language.
Just a wake up call, nothing personal.. The world is so huge so lets have a world peace. i love you all lol

To most Americans, actually it's no use learning another language. Don't forget the fact that the time of everybody is limited. So any rational people would not waste time on unimportant and useless affairs. To people who live in a non-English speaking country, learning English is important and useful. Excellent English means more opportunities and higher salaries. Even if you have enough money, learning English is still meaningful for travel around the world and communicate with people in other countries. But to Americans, it's not necessary to learn another language. They're the biggest consumers of world, which means other countries need to cater for them. They could communicate with others in their mother tongue. If they have unlimited time, they may learn some languages for fun.
