The noodles or the sauce?

Well, we are being bad tonight and had some spaghetti.
The roomie and I were talking about how we like our pasta.
"Noodles as a mechanism to transport sauce" is the the roomie's take on spaghetti. Meaning more sauce to noodles ratio...
I'm of the opinion "Sauce to flavor the noodles" of course meaning just enough sauce to coat the noodles.
So, what is your take? More noodles than sauce or more sauce than noodles? White sauce or red?

I like more noodles, but, I do like alot of meat in the sauce, does that count?, haha.
I'm not too fond of all that sauce because then I'll feel like I'm eating a bowl of mashed tomatoes. Oh, I'm so funny tonight. So, I guess that answers the other question of white sauce or red sauce since I've never seen a white tomato.
Oh, will the jokes never stop coming, I better leave before you throw me out of here, haha.

HaHa, ohhh, I thought you were talking about some new Spaghetti Sauce that was white, duh to me, was I thinking or what?
Yes, I do like Alfredo Sauce too, but I like my Spag sauce more, mmmm. I wish I had some right this very moment. 2 nice big fat juicy meatballs sounds fine to me as long as there is meat in the sauce besides, I'm such a big eater you wouldn't believe it. My kids watch me eat and shake their heads wondering where I put it all. I wonder myself sometimes.

I have to side with the roomie. The more sauce, the better.
Yep, I'm a sauce lover, especially tomato sauce. I always order extra sauce whenever I order a pizza. When I make spaghetti, the noodles are practically floating in the sauce.
Okay, maybe it's not that bad but I do love my sauce! I sometimes have spaghetti sauce on bread. Just that, nothing more.
You may think I'm weird but I'm not as weird as a friend of mine. She can open a jar of spaghetti sauce and just eat that... with nothing else! Now, THAT'S bad!

Hi Opal. I make a mean lasagna and can get a bit creative with my spaghetti but that's about it for me and cooking Italian. I just made my own spaghetti sauce for the first time last week and I think I'll be doing this from now on. I'll just have to plant more tomato plants next year so I'll have enough to can to use through the winter and spring.
I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only person who likes bread and spaghetti sauce!

Hey mw and Elic! I didn't even see your response and I just
said the same thing! I love to sop up the sauce with bread!
I don't even need the pasta! And I make my own sauce and I'm
not Italian! I was engaged to an Italian and I always made
my own sauce from scratch! My Mom used to make alot of Italian
dishes like Lasagna and Braciolle! I make them both too! And
I am Hungarian on my mother's side and Russian on my father's
side! I can really cook some incredible food!

I favor the sauce and I will put it on anything. I like white sauce, red sauce and even pink sauce. Hubby does not eat pasta, that is he does not do well with noodles, but we use sauce on lots of stuff.

He may have a gluten allergy, but he does fine with breads, does not care for cold cereals, but will eat oatmeal if I doctor it up. His sister has IBS. He threw up the first time he ate pasta, and then also got grossed out by looking at cold spaghetti in a sink in the middle of the night and thinking it was worms. He will eat my lasagna, but I do not pre cook the pasta. The smell of boiling pasta can make him ill.

Hey Elic! I'm lmao right now! I thought I was the only one
who ate sauce with my noodles or spaghetti!lol I love sauce!
I eat my spaghetti in a bowl on purpose because I use so much
sauce! And my boyfriend is the complete opposite! He puts a
tiny little bit on his and you can't even see it and he makes
fun of me and I make fun of him! But, it works out perfect
because then there is all the sauce for me! I love
red sauce the most! Once in awhile I will eat some nice alfredo!

I like a moderate amount of sauce to cover the noodles. I like every bite to have some, but not so much that there is a leftover puddle on my plate after all the noodles have been eaten. I love both red and white sauce; I like both homemade red sauce and jarred sauce bought at the grocery store, but if it's white, it has to be homemade, as the white sauce that comes in a jar from the story is soooo gross!

The white sauce that comes in the jar is so thick, way to rich, and has a horrible rotten cheese smell and a terrible after taste. LOL I actually used to like it years ago. I ate some when I was pregnant and it made me sick, and I swear for years after thatI couldn't even look at those white jarred sauces even on the shelf at the store without having my stomach churn! LOL

I always have a puddle, but I've been known to put it back IF I'm the only one eating it... I'm fine with MOST jarred or canned sauces, but some have corn oil in them (Ragu and Prego the last time I looked.)
I've never had the white sauce in a jar because of the corn starch.

For me it depends on what noodles and what sauce. If it's spaghetti, I don't like a lot of sauce on my noodles. Now if it's fettuccini, I like a lot of sauce. Ugh, this discussion is making me hungry and it's to late to do digging in the fridge for something to eat.

I use my homemade sauce with ground beef and a little more than to coat the noodles cause I let it sit overnight so the noodles soak up some of the sauce, giving it even yummier flavor.

Why not? They twirl just fine for me after heating up the spagetti in a bowl.

I like more sauce with my noodles. I like sauce by itself, even, to dunk bread in. If I have meatballs and sauce, I want lots of sauce!! As for the noodles, I want them to hold lots of sauce. I hate ordering pasta and not having enough sauce for all the noodles - I've taken to ordering extra sauce to be sure.

yeah, I've seen people do that, while my bowl is full of sauce on the bottom with the same amount - I actually don't much like the red sauce they have down here in Texas, either too sweet or too spicy - give me some of that good Jersey cooking! I had to die for sauce in Atlantic City - and the host of the dinner at a family style Italian place in a casino is Italian, so he should know the good places!

When I have pasta, I prefer less sauce, just barely enough to coat. I'm not a fan of white sauce, unless I make it myself. Butter (or butter flavored oils) taste terrible to me, so if I make a white sauce it's with olive oil.
My favorite is an alfredo with just a little tomato sauce mixed in...sort of a blush or cream tomato sauce.

I am not sure what is white sauce, but i know what red sauce is. For me I'm sort of the same, I prefer more sauce then noodles. I like the flavour more then tasteless noodles. I'd say just enough sauce to coat each noodle, since I don't like how some noodles are bursting with flavour and others are just well plain noodles. So my opinion is more sauce than noodles.

oh my goodness me spaghetti is my all time favorite food!! i love pasta with any kind of sauce, but love it more with tomatoe sauce. i think noodles are the most important part. the pasta is great with anything. but maybe thats because im also a big bread lover. think thats why i have weight issues?

I kid you not, I had a time where I was eating spaghetti for dinner, and taking the left over noodles to work and eating it again for lunch the next day - day after day - had to be in the summer, because in the other seasons I pretty much ate lunch 3 or 4 days out of 5 with my mom.

The more pasta the better for me but for some reason it never matters how much sauce I put on the pasta or how many noodles I have, I always end up with a bowl full of sauce and no pasta at the end of the meal.
If I am eating at home I like red sauce but if I'm at a restaurant I prefer white. For some reason restaurant red sauce is always too sweet and too tomato-y for me. At home we make it with bell peppers and lots of garlic so that's the way I like it.

me too - only the reason I don't care for many restaurant red sauces is that they are either too sweet or they are too spicy - picky ain't I? I don't eat bell peppers because they have a not real pleasant allergic reaction for me - so, I avoid them...

I do enjoy eating spaghetti. I prefer a equal poration of sacuse and meat, with a equal portion of noddels. the sauce has to be read, there is no other sauce than red. lol.

Hi Elic! I like more sauce than pasta on my spaghetti :) Coz the sauce is like the highlight of the dish. Although ofcourse the pasta also matters, but it's the sauce that brings the flavor. I like my sauce to be spicy and lots of tomato and some cheese :) I prefer the red sauce :) YUM!

I am a big pasta man and i love the sauce more than the pasta. I really do like marinara sauce on my pasta and i like alot of it. The pasta is a medium for the delicious sauce like the bread and crust on pizza in the medium for the mozzarella and sauce. Though the pasta has to be al dente (not to soft or too hard) for me to really enjoy it. After i'm done with the pasta I get a piece of italian bread and absorb the rest of the sauce. it is really delicious.
