"Me" not so much but my honey wants to keep everything forever. I go through my clothe about every six month and get rid of the onces that don't fit or getting worn out. He still has clothe from seven years ago when he moved in with me. None of them have fit him in the last 5 but he still keeps them. I finally got rid of a few pants the other day. The same with Nick Nacks and Dishes and just about everything. I wanted to get rid of some coffee cups yesterday and he didn't want to part with any off them.. We have like 50 and the cup board is gonna come down soon. If I get rid of stuff and wouldn't tell him I'm sure he wouldn't even notice for a long time. Are you or someone you know a pack rat

My husband is. I'm the opposite but a little bit has rub on me though. I keep things too. Baby Memories from my kids etc. My husband has improved about 60% in the last couple of years. He has managed to keep the garage from accumulating stuff. He used to collect a lot things related to his job.

I am a pack rat.I keep the toys which i used to play when i was small for rememberance.I have beds which are more than my age and i still use them.I will try to dispose it as soon as i get a new house. Also there are lot of old things lying in the top of the house no one has cleaned it as yet. There are lot of surprises to be found there.I am planning to get rid of those things in free time.

From the look of my 2 extra bedrooms..yes, I am a pat rat.."sighs" I wish it wasn't so..but I have always had that problem. Maybe it comes from never having what I needed or wanted growing up so now I keep everything I get even if I don't need it or necessarily need it. My mom has turned into a pack rat also. I have told her we need the "clean sweep" people to come to both our houses and clear it out. If we haven't used it in six months to year and it is not seasonal..then we can do without it..I always have the what if's like what if I will need it later and then won't have it so I stuff it in a room or closet and it sits there waiting till it is needed. I really need to get rid of stuff..wanna come help.. it might take someone that isn't emotionally tied to the stuff to pry it out of my hands..lol and out of my house.

I like the shoe "Clean Sweep". Once you get rid of stuff you forget about it eventually and get used to not having it.

I have been a packrat since i was a child. My grandma was the first person that ever called me that. It can get bad sometimes. I clean for a living so a have many finds from apts i claen out. I will be walking down the street and see a broken beaded necklace.I will pick all the beads i see then either restring the necklace and/or add more beads to make a new one. I pick up anything i can use in crafts. I pack anything that can and will be used either by me or anybody i know.

In my constant re-arranging of stuff i have re-discovered stuff i had forgotten i had. So i may be guilty about that too. I may pick stuff up intending to use but may not get around to using it because other stuff came up. Then i forget i have it. If i had a bunch of shelves i would make a library of stuff all in matching labeled boxes. Make it ina room thats not being used or garage or storage area.

Hey missy! That's funny! It's usually the women that tend to be the pack rats! I am the pack rat in my house! My boyfriend would throw away everything if I let him! In fact, last year before we got the apartment painted we had a massive clean out and he made me throw out so much stuff! I guess I'm like Sconi! I would keep everything too! Someone has to be the one to throw stuff out or like you said the cupboards will just come down! Good for you for making the decisions! If me and Sconi lived together no one would ever find us with all the clutter!lol

Hmm...though I do keep stuff thinking I might have some use for them, I wouldn't consider myself a pack rat. I check once in a couple of months to see if I've used any of the things I have kept and if I haven't, I give them away. But my husband definitely is. I was cleaning out his wardrobe the other day and found a lot of clothes that he doesn't wear anymore.....since he lost a lot of weight. I thought he could alter some and use them again ...so I asked him which ones he wanted to keep and which we could give away...and he said none. He didn't want me to give away anything! And I'm sure he's not going to bother to get them altered. Even stuff that don't really bothr him....like old bedsheets or the children's clothes or toys...he doesn't let me give them away either...sometimes I do it without asking him and he doesn't even notice!

I'd say so. I still have clothes from 40 years ago, but then, I can still get into them! But the house is full of stuff that has not been used for years and is not likely to be used again, I need to have a major decluttering operation sometime - I've been telling myself that for the last 10 years or so though

I must plead guilty to being a bit of a packrat myself, missybear.I am always vowing to get rid of a lot of the stuff that I've managed to accumulate over the years, but it pains me to even think of letting it go. I've decided to take the plunge now since I have the help of my daughter, no matter if I have to shed a few farewell tears. The fact that I plan to move soon drives home the point that it's something I really need to do.

I used to be a total pack rat and then I was saved by circumstance. My hubby and I had to move once a year for a few years in a row and slowly we started getting rid of the excess baggage. Then we had a few friends move into our current home since they needed a place to stay, all those extra spaces in the house had to be cleared out for their stuff. I'm glad we got rid of all the things we don't use. It's kind of a reality check when you look at something and can't even remember the last time you needed it.

I was a pack rat when I was younger. I used to keep everything. When I was writing something and made a mistake I always kept sheets of paper instead of throwing them out. I didn't recycle them, I just kept them in my room. I collected a lot of useless things that way My mother used to joke about and say that it was a thing that I had inherited from my great-grandfather. He was definately a pack rat, I have never met anyone like him. He refused to throw anything away, and his house was full of things that were 60 year old or even older. Many of the things were broken, but he kept them anyway. I am not a pack rat any longer, actually I have become the opposite kind of person, and I often go through my things. I like sell my old things or donate them to charity, and I only wanr to keep the things that I really need and the things that I really like. I have moved many times, and it is not convenient for me to have too many things.

Yes, I do keep things that I have not use in years so I am probably a pack rat. I do thought go threw my closet about twice a year and get rid of the most worn out clothes. I keep some because I figure I will wear them if I am painting the house or doing yard work. I have container with things I brought at an aution which I did not really want but keep telling myself I will put it on my yard sale next year and when the yard sale comes up I forget to put them out.

Hi missybear! I'm definitely a pack rat when it comes to anything that could be used in some kind of craft. So that means old clothes too, because the fabric can be re-used for so many different things. I have one bedroom that is totally full of all kinds of craft supplies. I guess I am in some other ways too. I have a hard time getting rid of anything that has a sentimental meaning to me. My sister and I have a garage sale every few years, and I'm always putting things in boxes for a sale, so that does help me get rid of some things.

I think I am because I'm a sentimental person that's why my stuff keeps on piling up. This is always my problem everytime I need to transfer to a new place as it's hard to dispose some of them.

Well I like to using my clothes until they 'dissolve' lol that is what my mom usually tells me. Besides, older clothes are much more comfortable then new ones! But a extreme case of pack rat was my grandmother, when she was alive. i mean she liked to keep everything, not only clothes but all her stuff, papers, everything, literally. It was so sad (and difficult) when we had to clean up her room. We ended up finding some photos we had no idea they actually existed. Rest in peace Ba(this is how I used to call her)

I find myself holding on to anything with the slightest sentimental value or things i may use in the future. it really is a bad habit but ive countered it by clearing some things out now and then.
