What would you wish for from a genie?

[b]I don't know from whence came the idea that genies (or djinn...which are actually very powerful demons, according to scholars of their cultural origins) grant 3 wishes. If you read any of the 600+ "Arabian Nights," genies often stayed with their "masters" for life, doing many things for them (Even Disney's "Aladdin" got that right. Oddly, though, the story was originally set not in Arabia, but China!).
Just for the purposes of this discussion, however, you're limited to 3.
I've always wished for all the money lost before a hundred years ago (so I wouldn't get anyone else's money who's still living, & needs it), to be perfectly healthy, & finally, to always be understood.
We can putter around for my thought process behind those choices, or do as my title up there suggests, i.e., tell everyone what you would wish for, & why.
Your ball, friends!

1. To be able to master any skill within 1 month (playing an instrument, lockpicking, heart surgery, etc.) This would also indirectly take care of any money-oriented wishes, and probably any romantic pursuits as well.
2. Anytime I think of an awesome idea, invention, song, or movie, it is automatically karmically "patented", meaning everyone else in the universe is excluded from thinking of it and doing it before I get a chance to.
3. And last, World Peace! hahaha!

[b] Okay, Tantrums, I'll accept the last because the 1st 2 are so clever & original, & because I recognize #3 for the jest it is!

[b]Very sensible. Also humble. Good wishes, not flashy, & genie friendly, too.

I only have 2 wishes. First one is for my family to be healthy and just die of old age. second would be not wealth exactly, but to be able to stick my hand in my pocket and pull out enough money to cover expenses but nothing frilious. That way we would be healthy and comfortable.

awwww thanks Maggies.
I tried the spagetti squash like you and Elic make it and the whole famiy inhaled it. lol I used a lb. of lean ground beef and 2 cans of the Manwich sauce instead of tomato sauce. I kept some of the seeds so will be planting that next spring as well.

[b]That's Elic's recipe; I've never actually tried it.
I do have a great milk-less potato soup that's very tasty, though. Before MyBot notices we're talking recipes... here it is. It's supremely easy!
* 5 lbs Idahos, scrubbed clean eyes & bad spots removed but skins left on, cut into 2 inch (or so) square chunks.
* One whole onion--any large kind (but a couple of cups of peeled perl onions or 5 bunches of chopped green onions will do).
* TBS each dried basil, rosemary, sea salt, powdered garlic (or 3 cloves mashed fresh garlic), freshly-ground black peppercorns to taste, 4-5 fresh bay leaves.
* A huge pot.
* Enough water to cover deeply the entire lot of ingredients.
Boil all together but the basil (add that a few minutes 'til you finish cooking). Simmer 'til potato chunks are firm but done, & the broth is cloudy.
Let cool 'til the smell drives you crazy & serve. If it's not Lent, serve with a bit of extra sharp cheddar & some smoked ham (Black Forest is great), & the blackest pumpernickel bread you can buy, lightly toasted, lightly buttered.
It's better on the second day...if you don't throw a party & it all disappears on the first day!

I did something like this and got so many "World Peace" responses that the discussion became tired. Hope you have better luck.

[b]Yes, I did think I'd get the "visualize whirled peas" response, but decided to risk it anyway. Another time, maybe I'll do the "5 books you'd want to have on a desert island," & hope for no cliches, too. Call me crazy.
Thanks for your answers. I especially like that last one!

Good work! Three wishes in one! Maybe that means you still have 2 to go! Depends on how generous a djinn you've decanted, I suppose.
Very clever!
I'd have answered sooner, but I've been distracted & a bit busy lately. Sorry! Thanks for replying!

AH..... the 3 wishes :) I like the way you think, and I like your wishes. Specially being thoughtful enough to wish money that wouldn't be missing from some living person. That says a lot about you, and I like that.Without a doubt health is ( or at least in my opinion should be ) a wish that everyone would make.Your last wish leaves me thinking a bit. I am sure that you are not worried that you will be misunderstood in general. You express yourself well, and are clear in what you say, so I wonder what is is worrying you in terms of being understood. Not words, for sure. But it's your wish, you will know better than anyone why.
Myself? I suppose like everyone else, I would wish for health for me and my family ( does that count as 2 wishes? ), I would probably wish for a job that fulfilled me and paid me enough to live comfortably ( 2 again? LOL )and the third one probably love and harmony within my family. I would find health to be my most important wish, without it there is no way to enjoy most other things anyway, The next two are equally important for me, because they kind of link together. I have experienced that without money - thus a good paying job - family often runs into problems even when love and harmony are present. I wish I could still believe that love conquers all, but I have learned it isn't exactly so.
A job that fulfills me will allow me to enjoy it and stay motivated to do it, which in turn would bring a positive attitude needed to be open to love and harmony. Love and harmony would bring an atmosphere of pleasure and joy that would help me to function well in my job...see... they're all related, maybe it should be only one wish LOL

[b]Thank you, Ark! I have though very carefully about my wishes, especially that first. If you consider it closely, you'd realize I'd be the richest person who ever existed!
As for my wish to be always understood, it's core deep, as I've been misunderstood so badly by some people that it's hurt me (& sometimes them!). I doubt a lot of people would wish the same, but I surely do! Have you ever been so misunderstood by someone that you were hurt? Lost a good friend, even? If so, perhaps you'll see why I wished that!
Yes, the older I become, the more I wish I had the health I had at, say, 16 or even 20. I don't, & it has cost me much (& here, I don't refer to money, although that is a factor).
I had a wonderful, very fulfilling job--it was my health that lost it for me, so I do relate to your second wish!
Perhaps if I had your third wish, I wouldn't have needed my third wish as much as I do.
Great wishes all, Ark!

I like your wishes, very interesting choices. I can think of about 100 things I could use right now in the way of help but since we're only allowed three, I guess I'll have to think carefully.
Number One, would be like yours, to stay healthy for many more years to come.
Number Two, would be to have a little bit of money to open my own small business. I don't need alot, just a little to get me going because I'm a hard worker, just out of work right now like a million other people.
Number Three, would be that the business would prosper so I can help my daughters out and be happy when I leave this world.
Like I said, there are a ton of things I could wish for right now but I think that would do me just fine for the moment, and I'd be happy...

hi Maggiepie well for me, it would be wish number one, that my son gets a job at once that pays a really good salary.
wish no 2. we get enough money to put down all that is needed 'for an two bedroom apartment for at least three months.
Wish no.3. that I can get our stuff out of storage and'
move into this new apartment very soon.
okay so this is all just wishes but it was fun while it
lasted so back to reality for now. nice discussion.

Also, thanks for the kudos!

I'd probably wish for health, maybe win the lottery (not the big win necessarily, just enough that I don't have to stress about the bills), and maybe more free time.

[b]Ah. So you'd wish as those in the classic fantasies do--that you'd have a genie who sticks around! As well as the usual wealth & health--all great wishes. Of course, not all genies offer the same deal. Some just give you 1 to 3 wishes, & then--bye bye!
When that happens, you'd better think very carefully, because genies are tricksters!

[b]That depends entirely on the genie you get. Some are very generous, & stay with their emancipators their whole lives, giving them anything they ask for, but others only grant one, two or three wishes, while yet others have been trapped so long they go insane & vow to slaughter the one who was so "late" in setting them free!
My advice: don't be greedy. Just ask for the amount the genie offers you!

I guess the first wish would be to get unlimited wishes. Just kidding. The first one would probably be to be content inside. The second would be health. The third and final wish would be to be able to help people in any way they needed help. I think that having unlimited money, power, or any other temporal wish would never be completely fulfilling. If a person is happy inside and content, has good health, and is able to help people then what more could they ask for. In this way a person truly lives life to the fullest.

Hi Maggiepie!
If I were granted 3 wishes from a genie I think they would be for #1 me to be close to both my sweetheart and my family (as they live in different states), #2 that my family and I would always be provided for and #3 for my family and I to always be happy.
I know they're not elaborate, whimsical wishes but I really focus on the simple things to make me happy. :-)

[b]Well, happiness comes from within, so maybe what you're wishing for, really, is to know how to be happy with what you receive. Some folks never learn that trick.
