Personalized vitamins!

I had no idea that we could get personalized vitamins. Vitamins based on the needs of the person! A RN told me that a pharmacist can concoct a vitamin based on a specific person's need. Much like the requested cough syrup that you can get when you request it from them. Apparently from a simple bloodtest, you can get the information you need to have a special vitamin made for you. It beats buying a vitamin that has a bunch of stuff in there that we don't really need. Have you ever taken or heard of a personalized vitamin?

I have definitely heard of this; but have not tried it before. I think if prescribe properly, it wouldn't cause any problems whatsoever, unless taken over-dosage or something. Cough syrup is also good when requested. Awesome; I think it's from the doctor and then to the pharmacist for the personalized vitamins. I don't know if it's only available in hospitals though. I get my healthy Vitamin C dosage from the sun. Here is tropical enough, hee..

Heyya zed! It is important to take everything as directed. I'm glad you brought that into the discussion. A good thing can be a very bad thing if we try to overdo it. Thanks for the input!

hey first of thanks for starting very interesting and nice topic. See in the market every kind of vitamins is available and Dr. from good hospitals they know all about this but at the end of the it depends on you that you go for reguler check up and get the necessery test done for you to find out the personal need of your body according the test is done and get the prescription from the Dr. but most of the time if we are not ill we generally do not go for Dr. and get the reguler check up and test done and every time blood check up and other test of ourselfs, so dear every thing is available in the market but you have to go and see the dr. regulerly if you are very perticuler about your body need and daily health.

Thanks for responding. I also think that the natural way is the best way. I also think that we all skip out on going to the doctor unless we are ill.

Even if you will ask to the Dr. to prescribe the vitamins for your need they will do it for you as the test result will show in you body. Even make sure if your test will show every thing perfact in your body then Dr. will not prescribe for you the medicine unnecesserly. In that case multivitamin need not to take. just fresh fruits are good enough for the body to give required vitamins, i think every time taking tablets not good for health that is why for me i prefer to go for as natural things i can intake. thanks

it is a great idea to have that personalized vitamins. i want to have thatkind of vitamins too. but i don't know if there are any people or pharmacists who can do that here locally. but i want that kind of vitamin to make sure i don't get more than what i need or less than that. as some vitamins are not good taken in required dosage. even if for some few excess the recommended amount.

Hi hotsummer! I'm thinking of trying them too. It is a better option than taking things that I'm not even sure that I need. Thanks for responding.

Doesn’t that sound like a great idea? I take different vitamin tablets every day for different reasons and I do wonder sometimes if I am on the right track and taking the right things. This system would figure exactly what I need. If it ever becomes available here I would certainly look into it and consider it.

I think it's a good idea too. I think that alot of vitamins have a little of everything in them just to make sure people might get a little of what they need at least. This option brings to the table a lot of what we need exactly. Thanks for responding.

No, I have not heard about it. I think it would be good. As you said one won't have to pop to many vatamin pills. A person can take only the vitamins which is required to be taken.

I think that personalized vitamins could be taken under the professional advise. A large variety vitamins are available in the market right now and we should be careful while taking the vitamins as taking too much of them will be dangerous if no professional advise is sought. I never taken personalized vitamin as I think that I can absorb the all variety of electments among the food. Maybe the vitamin obtaining in the food is not stable, but I will prefer the natural things, which will be much more healthier.

Your right that the natural way is the best way to go. There are a lot of people out there that don't get what they need from their diet. I think this is a good option for them. Thanks for responding.

That's a ripoff and just an expensive way to get your vitamins. A blood test can't tell what vitamins you actually need or how much, because everybody's needs are different. And I'm pretty sure I remember reading that blood tests don't show all vitamins or show their levels accurately. If you take a regular multi-vitamin, you'll probably get what you need. If there something in it that you don't need, your body will break it down and secrete it. Don't be a sucker. Just because an RN said it, doesn't mean it's true.

Hi unusualsuspect! Thanks for the input. I do agree that we can't just run out and buy everything that someone tells us is what we need. It's true that our bodies just get rid of the unneeded stuff in anything we take.

nope. this is something that is new. And pretty interesting as well. Is it expensive to get this personalized vitamin as compared to those off the shelves products?

If the price is about the same, then getting the personalized one may be a good idea. No point taking and consuming additional minerals and vitamins that the body doesn't need. Cos what the body doesn't need, it passes out anyways. So that would have been a waste of good money that you flush away each time you have to go!

I'm not really sure the price difference. I haven't had to go to the doctor or pharmacy so I haven't had a chance to find out. I would say it is about the same. Over the counter vitamins can be very expensive sometimes.

that is so cool, but i dont know if that is applied or used here in our country already. that is cool for you dont have to buy a generic vitamins and you dont know if you get the right vitamins that you need. like for me i dont eat carrots so i should be drinking vitamins that are rich with vitamin A. i will take a look around if that is available in our country. thanks you for this discussion jen.

I thought you were talking about those GMC commercials for the vitamin pack, but I didn't know a doctor or pharmacist could do that! That is pretty awesome, and I think it's great that they can do a blood test. I thought that they could do something like that... it's like checking your blood levels.

That makes me think, would it be powder, or can the pharmacist make it into a capsule, or liquid? I thought that prescriptions were delivered to the pharmacy, but maybe they have the capability to make some? I don't know!

I'm sure mom and pops pharmacies probably have something like that. There's one in our county. I know you can make cough syrup with moon shine. Of course, moon shine's illegal now. Cool, ask! loL!

It is like checking your blood levels and then you know exactly what you need. I guess you just request the vitamin blend from the pharmacist and he just blends it there for you. It could be a great idea versus taking alot of stuff you don't really need. Thanks for responding.

I think what you mean is a vitamin blend. We are all individuals and need different things. Not everyone needs iron for instance and can make some sick. Others are still of productive age and need it. There are alot of veribles just like there alot of different types you will find in one brand for different ages and needs. A pharmacist knows all your ills and is more apt to be able to give you all the little minerals and products you personally need and not a bunch of other stuff you don't even need. I think it is a great idea and could probably save you money in the long run getting them in a blend instead of buy each one you need seperatley.

I think so to celticeagle. Not to mention the fact that by getting what we are needing, we can feel better faster. Thanks for the response.

Hi bunnybon! You wouldn't have to take the blood test to the pharmacist. The blood test would be for your reference and for what you would request in your vitamin. It's just like buying over the counter except you get to pick what is in yours.

Hey Jen! I must admit I have never heard of this before ever! I take a multi-vitamin over the counter brand name one! My doctor is not big on vitamins to begin with which is kind of surprising. I am going to see him next week and I can bet he is going to tell me he has never heard of this and he is up on everything that is new because he is constantly going to conferences about all the new things that are available! I will let you know what he has to say! I want to talk to him about taking calcium because of my bone deficieny. I am going to finally ask him about taking a bone density test since I already know from my Orthopedist that I have bone loss in my knees and ankles.

Hi Opal! I can't wait to hear what he says. He's probably not crazy about them because of the fact that alot of what's in some of those vitamins are actually not really needed if you eat pretty well. Also there is a difference in brand. Some vitamins are absorbed by the body better than others. I've heard that liquid vitamins are absorbed better than pills. Take care and thanks for responding.

Hi Jen! I have no such idea about pesonalized Vitamins. I think our family Doctor, who knows our health background, is the best judge to prescribe us vitamins.

Good morning, dearest Jen....haven't heard of that personalized service...wonder if it's an "only good in the U.S.A. or TN thing?" But thanks, for the heads up, I will put it on my agenda for my next trip to town! (NO pharmacies, here on this Island!) It's gotta be a good thing, as I know that some my my vitamins, I am overindulging in....and many, probably not enough! Gonna look into this one, thanks, and have a wonderful weekend...I will as my son is coming home for five days, tonite! P.S. I am not ignoring your discussion on "souls"...it still has me thinking, and I have NOT yet come up with a definitive answer! Cheers...and HUGZ!

Hi Pergammano! LOL..got to keep you on your toes. If your still pondering on it, I must be doing my job..lol. I'm really not sure if it is just a US thing or not. It is something to think about though. It would be great to be taking something that we could actually use all of. Congrats on the visit from your son! 5 days too! That's great. Have fun and take care.

Those are the pharmacists that you could ask for the vitamins. I don't think that all pharmicists do it but there are those that will concoct you a cough medicine or analgesic so that you don't have to go to the doctor. Thanks for responding.

Yes, I have. Especially when I was a kid. I remember used to drink a lot of specific vitamins (in the form of syrup) even if me myself don't know what the function was. But the one based on bloodtest, I haven't experienced something like that before in my life. =) Basicly, we need vitamin, ans the explanation will take you for a while. =)

No, I have never taken or heard of a personalize vitamin. I buy multivitamin at the store and calcuim supplement and take one everyday. Once I forgot to take them and I was tired all day. So, the first thing in the morning I take them. I do not know whether I would want to get a personalized vitamin.
