Is it too early to start christmas shopping?

I was just thinking that it might be worth looking around for Christmas presents soon. I know it is a little early, but if you start looking around now, you could probably try and find bargains and save yourself money in the long run. What do you think - have any of you started looking for gifts already?

For me Christmas is more of a get together with the family than giving gifts. So I don´t shop for Christmas.
Around Christmas time, my apricot tree is full of ripe apricots. I have already saved and cleaned recicled jars I get. I make apricot jam for everyone and that´s my Christmas present. I only buy something (and small at that) for my two younger grandsons. The eldest ones probably will get better presents from their mothers who have good jobs.
They expect a hug and a kiss from me and probably be the loudest to sing "Silent night" before opening the presents.
I´m also the lady who picks up the torn papers and ribbons.

I always start early. This year I've been a little slack and haven't done much, but I have to get busy soon. It's a good way to save money because there's no pressure to find things. You can take your time, as you said, and find good bargains. Also, don't forget to check thrift stores and garage sales for collectibles or antiques. Finds are still out there.

Yes, I've started planning on what I'll be getting for my family. I have already cashed in some points at a site I belong to. I'm trying to step it up on my money making sites too. Hopefully, I'll have enough gift cards to use for the things I have in mind as presents. And of course I'm looking for any kind of regular deals on Christmas related things.

Actually this time is just perfect. You still can find a lot of bargain. Because as soon as it hit the second week of october the price are going to go up ! And perfect time also to do the layaway. So beginning of december, the items that you want already pay off, and you can take it home and start wrapping them.

I don't think it is too early at all. I know someone that starts hers in July. You can find things cheaper if you start now. Once that Thanksgiving day has arrived everything goes up. I even try to buy what I need for dinner real early too. To me it aint never to early..

I actually haven't, but I say it's never too early. Tons of people do their Christmas shopping over the summer; it saves so much stress to have it done early. I say go for it! Just keep a list of what you've bought and for whom so you don't forget what you have sitting in the closet. :)

Apparently not because I went to the dollar store today and it was filled with Christmas stuff.....wrapping paper, bows, gift boxes, bags, etc. It seems they start very early with this holiday stuff to get people to buy more. Personally I have to get through Halloween first!

Even though I don't celebrate Christmas, I don't think it's too early to shop for anything. If you buy something when it's near the season, the price will skyrocket. If you start looking now, you might something that you might like. I am not being stingy but sometimes I can't afford to buy a gift if the cost is too much. Plus, in your case, you'll be buying plenty of it.

i think it would be better to shop for christmas celebration like decorations and some other stuff because the price would rise up when december is already nearer.

I don't think it is too early to start christmas shopping, actually I think it is a very good idea to start early, that way you don't have to deal with the crowded shops and the long lines of people. Each year I decide to do my christmas shopping early, but I usually end up buying most of the presents in the middle of December I have a friend who starts christmas shopping in August or September, and she usually sends me a text message when she has bought all of the presents ("I finished by christmas shopping, how about you, did you finish yours?" Me: "Ehm no, I didn't start yet..")

yes I have picking up bits and pieces as I see them.Bubble bath things like that.I shall not be spending so much this year ,as there is simply not the money to spend. We were in sainsburys on friday night and there are tins of sweets two for a tenner so that will make two nice presents. If I don't go silly we should survive the christmas season well.Sounds mean but what else are you supposed to do,we will find out who our friends are this christmas.Mind you most people are in the same boat, our eldest son is sixteen and he has had a lot of new clothes and books for his A level course at school,he says he is not bothered as he understands, not having any money himself as part time jobs are are as few and fare between, but starting early has helped no end this year.

Hi UK_Shree! I don't think it's too early to start Christmas shopping. I used to shop early for Christmas all the time. I can't afford to shop these days and my family understands my financial situation. Some people start Christmas shopping earlier than this. Not only will you find bargains and save yourself some money but you won't have to fight the crowds, either. Some people like to fight the crowds, though, lol! Kathy.
