Bad habits?

What bad habits, or addictions do you have?
Have you got a particular thing, you want to stop..ie..smoking, and still have not achieved it?
Or, adament to lose weight, and start a new healthy routine, but never seem to be able to stick with it, or have you achieved your goal, and how hard was it, or even easy, once you had really committed to it.
Do you think, that positive thinking, and mind over matter really does work?
Would love to hear success stories.

Hello, I have tried numerous times to lose weight over 12 years. I had been on a medicine for over a year that I had no idea it could/would cause me to gain weight.
It did, I was wearing a 5/6 in jeans and in less than a year went to a size 18 in jeans. I was miserable.
I spoke to my doctor and asked if the medicine did this, I was told YES. I asked to be on a different on (for seizers). He told me they would change the medicine bit that All seizer medicines will either cause you to gain or retain the weight you are at.
It has been a hard long road for me. I lost 30 some odd pounds in a month...I had stopped my seizer medicine to do it though.
I started eating right and ate snacks or dessert in moderation.
I had to go back on my medicine because of the seizers and I stopped eating right too.
I am going to do it again, actually I've already started.
Wish me luck as I may not look like it but I need to lose another 50 to 75 pounds.

Hi moondancer,
aww, good luck hun, that sucks!
I know medication can cause weight gain, but it is the lesser of two evils, and feeling well has to come first.
I also know, having gained weight, from being a skinny minnie, how miserable it makes you feel, you lose the confidence, and cannot wear as nice clingy tops etc....
good luck Mrs, you CAN do it!!
Difficult, i know, i cimpletely understand where you are coming from :(

It is so hard to find beautiful, classy, nice, clothes for a big person. Most things look boxy and someone can literally see you coming for 3 blocks.
It's not any fun shopping when it's hard to get pretty clothes to wear.
I have lost enough that I have a shape or a form back...but it's just not enough...not yet. But I will get there!

i agree,
my problem area is midrift.
I have had 4 children, and find it impossible to get my shape back, it is depressing.
I can no longer wear clingy tops, as my midrift looks not good *scream*
but, i am trying to lose it, and determined LOL, it is better than it was, but such a problem area, it drives me nutty at times!

We are survivors & we both should be celebrating. i'm sorry u get depressed , guess we all do at times but just think about all u survived & be proud u did, i am. Abuse is a bad thing, been there done that to. U have a happy weekend & think positive & be proud of yourself.

My goal is just to take better care of myself. I am getting there I think. That will include more exercise and eating better. It is easier for me to make better food choices than it is for me to exercise at this time.

Bad habits? I don't think I have any bad habits because I never do anything which I feel bad. Ya I do booze & smoke, but since it's occasionally it's not a bad habit for me.
Happy Lotting

I really don't have very many bad habits. I think my worst bad habit is eating a lot of wrong food for me. I don't think I over eat I just think the choices I make in the types of food I eat is what the bad thing is. I'm just trying to be a little more mindful of my choices and to only eat things occasionally but sometimes that fails. However I think we're all human and have room for error so I don't worry about it much.

I would not mind, mine being just food, its better than being addicted to cigs etc :(, but healthy food choices are better in the long run.

A couple of years ago I went on a diet to lose weight and it did work - only because I was in the right frame of mind. The diet was a good one, but I'm sure it was my state of mind that helped me achieve the weight loss; I was committed and determined, and it paid off! In the past when I have tried to lose weight and not been successful, I know that it's because I wasn't really committed and wasn't positive - it didn't matter how good the diet was.
So to answer your question, yes, positive thinking does help, and mind over matter does work - I proved that to myself.

Hi Helen, yes I have bad habits, one is smoking and have done since the age of 13, in my about 20 I stopped smoking for 15yrs but was in a rather bad situation and one day I just picked one up and started again, now I don't want to stop it is about the only pleasure I have in my life apart from my animals, also being on my own I never can be bothered to cook for myself so just have snacks throughout the day...now and then will have a good meal about once a week, that is one thing I really want to change and to start enjoying food again, but at the moment it doesn't even bother me if I eat or not..hugs LoLo

My worst is my smoking. My only other addiction is coffee, but I'm still happy with that one. I would like to be more regular with my exercise routine. I'm stuck at the last twenty pounds I'd like to lose, after having lost 100 pounds, and the only way I'm going to get that done is if I exercise regularly.

I always sit before computer for several hours and don't want to leave for a moment.I think that is a bad habit,as it is bad for my health.
I want to brush my teeth every night before sleep and I can't stick to it.I also want to get up early every morning at the same time. But I often get up too late.
Some people may say just enjoy yourself and don't pay attention to what you have done or not. Some elders tell me that I should take good care of my health and change bad habits,or I will be regretful.I believe them.So from now I will try my best to form some good hanits.

I think my bad habit of my life is sloth or procrastination. Possibly I adopted this habit since childhood. I like to finish thing slowly, especially those need body energy. Therefore, I am always reluctant to clean the house or bath room. I also feel that it's tedious to cook or wash the cloths. Therefore, a washing machine and a cloth dryer is my best solutions to these daily chores. Too bad, a cloth ironing and folding machine is not available in the market yet .
I have my meal in the restaurant or food court everyday, so I don't have to shop for cooking ingredients and cook the food on my own. But I will try my best to consume healthy food like vegetarian or organic food. But recent progress is, I am making simple yet healthy breakfast using oat meal, muesli, raisins, milk powder and honey. I even bought one touch air-tight "tupperware" to store the packet-ed ingredients so I don't have to seal them with rubber bands.

hi forestgold I am overweight and cannot quell my need'to
'eat potato chips and chocolate, but I need to lose the
weight to help control my blood glucose much better, Maybe'
I could count calories a bit and still enjoy more of the'things that I like to eat. I have a bad leg which makes walking for exercise a bit problematic so need some type of exercise that I
could do. not swimming as we have no pool here but anything else just about.

Hi Helen,
Well I have got a very bad habit, its smoking, i know i shouldn't but i do and if someone tells me I should stop, I get really angry as I will do it when I want to, not when some one tells me not to, that is my stubborn streak, I will do one of these days but so far have not been successful. Hugs.

My worst enemy ( you can say bad habit ) is delaying things, until everything coming up altogether and I feel panic. I should have do that this afternoon, so I can rest well, but I delay it until I feel sleepy in the evening. Delaying process continue to the next morning and so on... Sounds awful, isn't it. But Thanks God, slowly but sure I has learned to erase this poisonous habit so it won't let me down anymore. May be some of mylotters have experienced this too, I hope not...

Mine is eating after midnight! I am gaining weight and have been trying to lose some, succeeded and now, it is back to square one! Sometimes, when I have set my mind to shed those extra pounds, I have a very positive thinking that I can do it, will do it and have managed to do it, but other times, I guess because of my thinking that I can always do it next time, that it becomes so difficult to be consistent and discipline myself.
