My seasonal creek, which means it usually only has water in it during a good rain. Or in the rainy seasons.
Well it is over flowing into a lot of my property! It is getting closer and closer to the area that is fenced off for my babies to go outside.
It's not often that we get so much rain that it comes up as far as it is now. It is storming here and has been raining all day.
I'm not going to complain about the rain as we were in a severe drought for 3 years here. The rain is welcome to come.
Like this though, I could go swimming on parts of the property that is normally beautiful lush green grass, flowers, bushes, and trees.
I had a lounge chair out there under one of the huge trees and I'm glad it's not there right now, lol.
So tell me is your property flooding? Is it raining where you are?
Thank you so much for responding.

We are getting inundated by rain today, huh? It's raining here in Virginia and has been for most of the day. We live on a lake and it is noticeably higher than normal but we have flood drains that send the excess under the road that goes through our property to the other side which is considerably lower ground.
It's not flooding this time but it has flooded in the past, even with the flood drains. We have a pier which is normally about 1 1/2 to 2 feet above the water level and it was almost totally covered in water earlier this year. I took a photo of it, which is on my profile but I can't get to it right now as the original is on my other computer which is not working right now. We got all that rain in one day, too.
We're getting rain from the same system that you are getting. It's HUGE! I'm happy for the rain we're getting today because it has been so dry for too long, although we aren't in a drought area.
I wish you the best and hope the rain stops before it takes over your entire property! Is there a place where you could put flood drains?

I am sorry to hear about the flooding you had. Did you not post your picture one time before? I seem to remember seeing one of a flooded pier.
It is nice to get some rain to break up the heat and dryness. Also to offer some fresh air and a clean smell to the air. It is nice then.
We will be fine. It is almost midnight now and the rain stopped this afternoon some hours after I posted this discussion.
Maybe the storms lessen some before they go to you from here. I hope they did.
We have a drain as well as the creek at the back park of the property. It is suppose to take the water to the pond. Sometimes though it is too much water to quick to, like today. Plus we have had rains for over 2 weeks.

Yes, I posted that picture before. I was very surprised that we got that much rain because it has always drained fast enough before that storm. I guess it was just a worse storm than we have had since we moved here. I believe the weather gurus said it rained 3" in less than 2 hours.
I'm glad your rain has stopped! It just stopped here a few hours ago, although we've had occasional drizzles since then. I think it's over now. It does make the air smell so good! I love being outside after it rains. Right now, though, it's only 60 degrees and it's already 9:45 a.m. I guess it really is Fall, huh? I wish Summer had lasted a bit longer. It rained here almost every day this past Spring. That's when I took that picture. My crops got planted late, well, the ones that lived, that is. What I planted early in the Spring all got drowned out except for two sweet potato plants.
I think the mountains tend to hold back the worst of the storms from getting here. We're in the mountains but east of the highest ones. I'm sure that has saved us from some of the worst storms.
I still think we need to build a nationwide irrigation system whereby we could pump water from flooding areas to areas experiencing drought. I honestly think it would pay for itself in a very short time because of all the property damage and lives it would save. But, I'm must a lowly peon with an idea. Nobody listens to just one person.

I found the photo of our pier. This thing was entirely underwater at one point. Some trees and bushes we have on our property were entirely surrounded by water.

Goodness I hope it doesn't reach the point where you might have to evacuate...I've been hearing about the horrible flooding all over in the southeast, but the news has been mainly focusing in the horrible flooding from all the rain in Georgia--homes have been flooded out and ruined. Strange how mother nature is...you had a drought for 3 years and now this--like nature is making up for lost time??? Keep safe!

That is kind of the way it seems. We have had lots of rain this year. The thing is we have had rains at times of the years when it's normally dry. lol Go figure, right?
I am not far from Atlanta and I have heard of the flooding there. It's so sad that people lost all they had and even some lost their life.

I'm glad that you don't have flooding. The rain is so much needed for the farmers. This year they have not had problems with having hay for the animals and other things too. I'm pretty high up too on a mountain. My problem is that I'm on a slope and other peoples water from their places drains down to mine. I have a flatter area on the property that has a chance of flooding. That's why my husband started digging a pond back there for some of the rain to go to.
Blessings to you too. I hope you are having a good day.

Oh my, yes you are lucky. Many people in different places here are dealing with really high floods and loss of their homes and even some deaths, which is really sad.
You can build or get another home. You can not replace a loved one.

Hi moon dancer,
I live in New delhi which gets flooded at the slightest of rains because of poor upkeep of the sewerage system by the government of new delhi and there is such a hugh traffic Jams so i dont think i would love much rains here in Delhi. I live in an apartment so i dont have a property like you where i would have creek or lawns but i belong to a village far away from new delhi and it is in the desert state of India with scanty of rainfall, so every raindrop is very welcome there and land is so thirsty that it would drink every drop of water on it. So we never had problem of plenty of water in our village home, it is usually other way round...:(

I am so sorry to hear this agrim. I do love a good rain. I'd rather have some rain that the dusty dry of not having much at all or hardly having any rain.
Rain clears the air, and makes things smell fresh and so good. I wish I could send just a little your way, not enough to cause a problem though.

Nope we have actually had a Summer where there has not been much rain so that was good for the UK But we guess it will be here soon as the Weather is saying that the lovely Weather is on it's way away and that Autumn will certainly set in
I am not looking forward to that as I love the Summer
I hope you did not get flooded

Summers here are too hot and humid to really enjoy them. It's the Autumn that is nice as is the early Spring when it is nice during the day not too warm and cool at night. These are my favorite times here. He have been in Autumn for a week or so now. I'm loving it.
We usually don't have rain at this time. I didn't have to abandon the house or anything, lol. In fact the rain slacked off and stopped with just drizzle or light rain for the night and the nest day.
It is rather nice now.
I'm leaving today to go to my mothers. I'll be there for a few days.
Have a great week.

No, I'm in Tennessee. We have lots of water, lakes, creeks, and water ways around us. Having lots of rain is alway a problem around here. I'm in no fear of my home getting flooded,(I hope). My home is on high ground.

Moonie,
You probably know that if you were in a severe drought that the ground is probably hard and the water is not soaking up yet. I hope it doesn't reach your house before it starts soaking in. Do you have snakes and scary creatures that might be in the water? Here in Florida, if flooding happens you have to be careful of snakes and gators. Flooding can be so destructive. Just hope you get enough to resolve the drought and then give you a break. Hugss

We have had enough rains to take care of the drought part before now. I think if we were in a drought it's only minor or was before these rains we've had for the past 3 weeks. It's strange because this is not a time for rain here.
Yes, I have snakes and huge snapping turtles as well as other critters and things, lol. We don't have gators though. We had those in Mississippi all the time.

I know that I am late but yesterday we also had rain and we were happy to see it as in many places water was beginning to be rationed. We have had good rain for a week but we needed it. My lawn was burnt as I could only afford to water the flowers but it so quickly turns green again., I was sorry for he visitors to the Island as one visitor said to me that her travel agent did not tell her that it rained in J.A. I was amazed and said to her then what would water the foliage and flowers? Can you believe that anyone could be so stupid?

LOL, I guess they want just sunny days on their vacation. They need to do more research before going anywhere again. We need the rain, everything would die without it...even us.

Hi moondancer..It sounds like that you might need to run for higher ground if it doesn't stop raining. We too are getting a lot of rain here in KY. It has been raining all day as well. We have a little creek in front of us but it seems to be doing okay right now. I think that it cause us a problem. By the way where are you?
Have a nice day and try to keep dry.

I'm glad that you are not having a problem with the rain or flooding. We too have had rain for over 2 weeks. It has let up some but comes right back with a vengence. It rained yesterday,(well everyday for a couple of weeks) last night and other nights too. It has stopped just a short bit ago. This little break if it does not rain any more tonight my flooding will go down.
The run off from the properties around me comes down, but there is a huge pond for it to continue going down to, thank goodness, lol.
I am in Tennessee, just below you.

Me,I'll stay dry inside my nice cozy home, lol. The problem is when it's raining hard the boys refuse to go outside..unless they just can not hold it anymore, lol. Poor guys.
It has stopped raining, maybe we will have a break for awhile. I can go out and check the mail maybe in the morning. lol

Oh wow moondancer...We haven't had no where that much of rain. It rained for about 20 minutes a couple of days ago, and then it started raining here yesterday for awhile. Then today it has rained all day. I certainly hope that the rain lets up on you. Keep an eye on things there and try to stay dry..
