Have you ever found someone's voice simply too annoying to handle?

When I was back in high school, there were 2 girls in particular that I knew but didn't have much to do with. I'm sure they were both perfectly fine in their own ways, but I found their voices so grating that I knew I wouldn't be able to talk to them for long. Now I know a guy who has the same effect on me. He constantly sounds like he's whining, even when he's happy, and it just drives me insane. I don't like to spend much time around him or in his presence just because his voice just sort of makes me want to snap. I know he's a super nice guy and everything, but hearing that voice brings out the worst in me. So what about you? Do you know someone or have you met someone who has a voice that just makes you shudder and regret having ears?

That sort of thing bugs my husband far more than me, though I do notice people who have "annoying" voices...

There was a teacher in the next room that had such a high pitched shrill voice, that I wanted to cover my ears. Once I had to politely ask her is she could talk a little quieter so I wouldn't have to shout above her. Her response was that she didn't even know I was there and had a class. Precisely. I'm used to hearing a little of what the teacher next door is saying, but when I can't talk above the teacher next door, that is way, way too loud.

Not "is she would talk," but "if she would talk", sorry, getting a little tired.

Oh heavens ...yes. The awful thing is though that I think there is some type of autism there but I still am driven mad by this persons speech mannerisms and voice etc. I know if I taped him and played his voice back to him he would be shocked and possibly embarrassed but I doubt he would do anything about it even if he could.

Unfortunately, I do -- and they gave her a position in my company where she is always on the paging system. It's enough to make me wish my hearing loss was more profound.

I know of two such people. One is a girl who's voice is somewhat akin to a vaccuum cleaner and fingernails on a blackboard combined. I am not being mean or anything, but seriously, her voice is like a buzz-saw right to the brain. The other one is a guy, and it's not his voice so much as it is his annoying habit of humming. Not humming, like in tunes or anything, more like the buzz of a million bees anytime he is thinking or pausing between sentences. Problem is, I like both of them and I know I don't feel good about judging either one this way. The challenge is, I do, and I just can't help it. More than ten minutes with either one, and I am reaching for the headache tablets. It makes me feel like the worst person in the world, but it is how I feel nonetheless.

That's my problem, too. I like the guy if we're not actually speaking to one another. I enjoy receiving text messages from him, and he's incredibly nice, but his voice drives me a little nuts. He came to come visit me on a road trip last year, and by the morning of the second day I just couldn't stand listening to him anymore. If he calls me, I have to ignore his call, because I know it's just going to drive me nuts.

Yep..Actor/comedian Joe Pasquale on UK TV..He's described as a comedian, but I haven't been able to watch anything He's ever appeared in without changing the channel on seeing him open his mouth..I have wondered, though,is he very good at his act,(He seems to get plenty screen time) or if the voice is part of his act so that he always remains in Character..Anytime I'd see him,I wonder if he'd break character for once,(Which I'd be prepared to see) but it hasn't happened Yet..Sorry,Joe! Some people unfortunately have voice characteristics that put people off them,or have accents or dialects that do the same..They may be perfectly likeable people, but hearing them can flip a switch in others..Some Entertainers use voice as their tools..Singers,Voice Actors..Emo Phillips has a flaky voice act,but He's Funny and I like his off the wall style,IMO..And Steven Wright's deadpan growly delivery was inspired casting for the "Reservoir Dogs" Radio DJ!

OMG, yes! Back when I was a teenager there was a lady that worked at the store down the street from me. Her voice was so high pitched and mousy. I knew it wasn't her fault, but it made it hard for me to shop with my mom because my mom had the tendency to copy her voice. Funny thing is, I don't think this poor girl ever caught on. Or if she did, she never showed it. She was always so good natured and happy. That in itself was a little annoying sometimes! LOL Happy mylotting!

Hahaahaa - this is a horrible dilemma, and especially if you really like the person concerned in other ways (except for their voice). There is a lady judge on the American version of So You Think You Can Dance who makes my ears bleed. Truly horrible.

I have a workmate who seems to be whining all the time and I would have to agree that it's irritating that it could literally drive me insane. It really makes me feel snappy so I just keep quite and stay in a place where I can count from 1 to 10 otherwise I'll just snap at her and everything might get out of control. I think she's such a narrow minded person. I just don't wish to get tangled with her.

OMG yes! There was a girl in my class and here voice was alright but her laugh. that thing just made you want to jam nails in your ears to drown out the medusas cry. It was loud disfigured and most of all it made everyone else stop laughing. She was really hot aswell so this made it a real turn off when she laughed. O well, win some, lose some.

I'm sorry, but I really cannot tolerate Kris Aquino's voice. I was watching the Ondoy (the catastrophic typhoon that hit the Philippines) hotline of her channel last Sunday and I remember at one point exclaiming to my husband to switch channels because I couldn't bear to hear Kris anymore. I mean, she was doing a good thing and everything, but I just couldn't stand her way of talking. They say she has what they call the Ateneo (her university) accent, but I know lots of Ateneans and they talk FINE. Some call it the colegiala accent but that singsong way of talking is not THAT irritating (not enough for me to want to shut the talker out). I guess it's a combination of the exaggerated accent (whatever it actually is), the shrill voice, and the fact that she manages to make everything about her, lol. My apologies to those who don't know Kris Aquino and can't relate. :)

I went to high school with this one girl. She had the most annoying voice. I can't even describe it. Maybe like a 3 year old whiny, squeaky type sounds. I used to think she did it as an act. I'm not really sure why. Maybe for attention. I was very happy when she was not in any of my classes. This other girl, who was in chorus with me. She used to get all of the solos. Why, I have no idea. She had the worst sinus voice I have ever heard. I think she also had a slight speech impediment which made it worse. I think hers was her real voice though. She graduated before me so I didn't have to listen top her for very long.

High-pitched voices annoy me. I know a couple (moms of my kids' friends)who have this type of voice. It's like a whistle blowing in my ears, so shrill that I can still hear their voices long after we've ended the conversation. Fortunately, I only speak to them when we are arranging play dates , birthday parties, pick-ups. I think shrill voices on men are even worse. That must be the whining effect you are referring to.

Yeah. i can understand where you are coming from. I had a friend in church and she constantlly sounded like she was shouting even at normal levels. I have to lough as I sometimes sound like I'm shouting atnormal levels so i probably have the same effect on others. Iknow we cn't control what we sound like so I take that in to consideration.

LOL!!! Yes, i have a friend, who sounds like one of those things you buy, to distort your voice, only it is hers, and it is very hard to have a convo with her, without wincing! lol...very strange indeed, she sounds demonic or something, lol.
