If there is cash, that for that could get burnt. If there is gold/silver then that for that could melt. If there are house documents then them for they could get burnt and would cost some money. Then I would collect my books if possible all of them otherwise at least the Sanskrit book for they are rare tomes. There are also the copies of Vedas. I am ssuming that my family members are already in safety. Because they have legs and can run. Otherwise saving their lives would be the first step, obviously. All material comes later!

Acie, I am a voracious reader, a bibiliophile to the core. I simply love books. So i was trying to say after cash and gold and silver-again assuming my family is already safe for I take it that they are intelligent and energetic so they would and have already found their way to safety, if I were to choose, if possible I will secure all my books, if not I would first take my Sanskrit Books first and of them, The Vedas!!!
The above only shows my love for my greatest passion.

hmmm, first safety of my family and my dogs... if there's still time to stop the fire burning, i'll put my very best effort to stop it, if water is available... hmmm... money, and phones and gadgets that are easy to get too... heheh so u will just lend them to the pawnshop and have cash to repair my home...
our house was on fire when i was in high school, im glad there's no fire burning just smoke from the overheat fan that makes the foam bed burn just black black smoke and all our things are ok, just needs a little cleaning because of the smoke...
family safety first and my beloved dogs................

My friend and I just talked about this same discussion, this is in light of what happened with typhoon ondoy. I think the first thing I would get is my cellphone, cause information is really important. Then I would take all my important papers ( If I am still thinking straight by that time. lol ).. after that, I think I would save my dogs.. cause they would not now where to go.. ( of course, I'll make sure, that everyone is out and safe, before I save my dogs. hehehe)

I think mother nature is punishing us for not taking care of her, we just went through one disaster, and now there is another one coming.. Our house in Laguna got flooded during typhoon Ondoy, there were no major damage though, but still the clean up just really takes a lot of time and effort.. I hope our house won't get flooded this time, cause I don't think we will be able to go home to Laguna this weekend, so there'll be noone to help my parents clean-up.

all our things are secured, that was the good thing, cause we managed to put everything in higher ground. I just hope this new typhoon won't hit as hard, cause we won't be able to go home to laguna, I hope my parents and my younger brother would be safe in our house there.

aside from my family? I don't know. At first i though of saving my gadgets and other stuff that was given by my partner. I think my documents which I already compile and put in a safer place.School papers and other important documents are one of the most important things to secure because here in my country in processing papers it took us weeks, months and so and most of my school documents are need to process in other city so I don't want to travel for hours just to make them sign.

Hello Acie,
What a questions...hahahaha,who knows?
Only those who were in such situation can ever say how does it feels.
Well, anyway,if ever i will be in such situation i think that depends on the situation stil.
If it happens at daytime and i am very much awake and,the burning part is not in my room,i can still secure all important papers.Yah,i will make sure to secure all important papers, and our family albums. And of course, first thing i would look for is my mobile, that's the only communication i had and very important when calamity strikes.
Then,if i still have time,i would grab whatever little things i can, like my laptop,cam,ps3 hahahahaa(not to mention my kids, they are all grown ups and i will make sure they are safe).
But,when fire starts at night, and we are sleeping,i guess first thing i will had in mind are my kids. So,my kids were the most important to me,let the house burn,i don't care(hmnn...)

and yeah!...its hard if it will happen at night..gosh if everyone is in deep sleep
we cant notice the fire burning!...we will just notice when we wake up we dont have a home!lol...
we must learn to be alert at all times..for our safety..
thanks! friend!
keep sharing!..
have a nice day!

That's easy, I 'd save my pets first. They are always my main concern.

No, but I imagine that my husband is capable of saving himself. Also I think that he would be concerned with me if I didn't save my animals. Since I'm the one who takes care of them always and we don't have any kids.

In this order;
Family
Pets
Money
stuff that would be costly to replace
momentos, things with sentimental importance to me
...I've lived through TWO housefires in my life. I've done this before. xD

First thing that comes into mind would be to grab the family albums (that is after knowing my actual family to able to escape) I would probably want to take my whole wardrobe but since it's not possible, I think it's important to take the things that can't be bought like baby pictures and other pictures of the family.

Definitely my family, that include my pets. But since the cats are pretty active, I think they'll be able to save themselves without me involve. I can replace stuff but not my family. Once I am sure they're safe, I'll try to save whatever I can. It's not a good idea to barge into a house on fire but I must do what I can at that moment.

got no husband dear..and i have no plans of getting one whatsoever...
i will never pick up the fridge! That would be to un-cool! I wanna look pretty even in the state of panic..lolz.
seriously.... i can replace evrything as long as i have my money, and credit cards...
so i have to save my money and bank documents first!
of course...nothing comes above my son!

After my husband and the cat, I guess the main thing for me (or at least the most sensible thing!) would be my permanent resident card (Green card) as it would be a right pain to have to replace it and have to go through a load of visa stuff again, not to mention expensive.
So I think thats what I would go for.

Intelligent question and i appreciate this thinking. Some people will try to secure their costlier things rather than their important things which brought those things to real life. I meant to say that we got the job with the help of the education. The certificates of our studies and our job account papers and many more precious matters should be secured rather than the things which can be brought back. But once the papers got burnt will not be get back or brought back.

May God forbid me or anyone else from experiencing something like that. But if I come across anything such as that then the first thing I would secure are my family members. Everything else can be obtained again but not them and they are the most precious possessions of mine.

when we did have something like that back then when i was younger, fortunately the fire did not burned the whole place. our so called barangay. and our house is not part of it. the very first thing that came up to mind was, where are my parents. and its sad because they are not there that time. they went to the grocery store to buy somethings. just gladly that my two brothers are there and some family friends that came and help us get all our things.
what is important to me that time is that my family is secure. we are all there to help each other.

To start this out, I'd have to make sure that my husband, children and two dogs were out of the house before I would even be able to think of anything else. Assuming they were out of the house and safe, then I would grab just three things from within the house. The first one is my purse because it's got our debit card in it and a few other important things. Secondly would be my two external hard drives for my computer because they have all of our pictures on it. Course there are also DVDs with the pictures but it would be easier to grab the hard drives. Third would be my camera because my camera is a big part of my livelyhood.

I have never experienced a burning house, but I have lived through a burning kitchen. Actually it was a grease fire. I threw water on it and it got bigger. Eventually it burned out, but not until after the smoke alarm had gone off and the firemen had come. I think if I were ever in a burning house situation I would first secure my mind. Yes, my mind. If the mind is panicked in a situation like this then it is possible you could make a rash decision and lose your life or the lives of your loved ones. My belongings wouldn't matter so much. After all they are just material possession that I shouldn't be that attached to anyway. After making my mind alert but not panicky I would go looking for my family and see if they were alright.

I think the first thing i would secure would be my family members, if any were in my house, as well as pets. Insurance would hopefully cover most material items but im sure id grab some things on the way out.
